The Boy on the Beach: My Family's Escape from Syria and Our Hope for a New Home

This book is a beautiful gift in honor of refugees worldwide. No matter which side of the Earth we are born or call home, we all share the most basic needs for food, shelter, dignity and love. While this is a very personal story of one family's journey, it is representative of all the hundreds of thousands of human beings who are forced from their homes through no fault of their own and subsequently alienated from humankind. It is the story of how politics and greed make us less than human, and how the image of one little boy opened hearts and minds, even if for just a brief period of time. It is about the guilt of failing those we love and accepting the fact that helping refugees is a worldwide responsibility and an integral part of being human. It is both haunting and uplifting.

These are difficult stories to tell yet they must be told. These families were robbed of all the years they had to give. The world is in a very tragic state. I pray for all of the people effected by war.

great read, such an important topic

This book is deep, meaningful, will make you reflect and focus on the true meaningful things in life and want to go out and change the wrong of the world.

This book was utterly heartbreaking, a devastating read. However, it's a story that had to be told and it's had a profound affect on me. Tragically, it's too late for Alan and Ghalib Kurdi, those poor innocent beautiful children, victims of war, hate, greed and bureaucracy. I highly recommend this book, it has to be read.

I found this book to be eye opening, heart wrenching and found that it enlightened me on a topic that I previously felt very clueless about. It made me appreciate my own life and family, and feel loads of empathy for all of those who were/are involved in life changing wars. Everyone needs to read this book!

Gives us an insight and perspective on the many life challenges of our ever changing world, the desire for a safe haven from turmoil; the determination to help others, and the strong human desire for a better life with stability. It shows how humankind continue to forego many things and the many sacrifices in search of that better tomorrow.

This is a must read book to understand the the life if refugees and the message "We are all the same".It made me learn and cry.Great job Tima Kurdi!

I loved the book and the way it was written. Very catchy, I couldn't stop reading and got emotional many times during the reading. A gift from the author to the readers.
