Soho Urban Artist Sketch Box and Table Easel - Portable, Multi Media, Adjustable Angle with Storage Compartments - Oiled Beech Wood

I love my new Soho Urban Artist Sketch Box and Table Artist Easel! I think it is a great value for the price I paid. It works well for my watercolor projects that require me to have them sitting vertically (to some degree). I like the fact that it is very easy to adjust to the right height. The box is also very well made and not flimsy at all. It also works well for pencil sketches. I wish that the compartments were a little more adjustable, but overall I am very happy with it . I store miscellaneous watercolor supplies in it and it makes it easy to set up when I feel the urge to paint. (Since I don't have a designated studio to do my artwork in).

This easel is well made it. It is sturdy, it has plenty of space for paints, paint brushes etc.The handle makes it easier to carry anywhere. This comes in handy to keep me busy during the coronavirus crisis.

Aloha from Maui,I purchased this easel 9 months ago to replace a larger French easel for space issues.I purchased and returned 3 similar models before this one, and although many of these look identical, they are not.The Soho model was by far the highest quality hands down.In fact, it was almost perfect. More on that later.As you can see, I did a couple of mods to make it more useable and versatile for me.The first thing I did was to turn around the bottom canvas support that says "Soho" because I didn't like the fact that the bottom 3/4" of the canvas was behind that little retaining wall, which is completely unecessary, and also added 2 small brass screws to the front as an additional holder for canvas panels as well as the board I place my watercolor paper on.Next, I removed and turned around the bolt on the slotted rails that allow you to change angles, so that the wingnuts are on the OUTSIDE of the rails!What genius thought it would be easier to get up and loosen/tighten the wingnuts from the back inside of the box? Duh. What's interesting is that as you can clearly see on the attached pics of the box it came in- the wingnuts ARE shown on the outside of the rails, which makes far more sense, but it is shipped the way it is shown on this listing pics, with the wingnuts on the inside. Anyway...Finally, I drilled 2 additional sets of holes so that I could move the bottom support up and down on the box for more height flexibity.If I need an in between height for my canvas/board, I simply place a small board on the bottom support as shown.So why not 5 Stars? The bottom set of holes for the shelf (drilled by the mfg), were not level, making the canvas or board crooked. I used a reamer and took some wood off the bottom of the higher hole so that the shelf would sit evenly. That was the only sloppy workmanship I found on this easel, but it's a big one. Having a level canvas is a big deal.Other than that, I love this tabletop easel. Overall it's well made, light weight, and nicely finished. It's my main easel now.Highly recommended!EDIT: I originally posted this review using pics I took some time ago and failed to mention I eventually moved the wood angle adjustment rails to the OUTSIDE of the box like a French easel. This allows me to lay a palette or watercolor pad over the supplies (see pics) so that when I close the box and pick it up, all the contents DON'T fall to the bottom of the box! A common complaint for this type of box easel easily solved!Happy painting!

My daughter loved this! She has been getting into art & this has been an amazing to have on hand! Very great quality for an affordable price! Has great storage inside & is able to travel along with you.

This box is the convenient desk top easel I have been looking for. It holds a good amount of supplies and sets up easily. It is not for large projects but for smaller plain air paintings and sketching it suits very well. The box and easel are well made and should last a long time.

This easel is excellent! It is good quality, fully adjustable to any angle and easy to use. It is sturdy and compact but will hold large size paper. Highly recommend!

I bought this as my other portable easel didn’t have a deep enough drawer. I feel like this one is bulkier and not made as well. Upon arrival the resting bar for the canvas had fallen off... which apparently you can remove it, since there are wing nuts inside. Just over all I feel like it’s a wooden box with a handle. I plan on using it as a lap desk for watercolor painting, so for that it is fine. I just expected more since other portable easels in the past I had been highly impressed with.

I’m very happy with this purchase. I am able to keep my watercolor supplies nicely contained. I live in a small home and do not have a designated studio that I can keep set up all the time. The case itself is nicely lined, very sturdy and a good size. My only issue with it was it wasn’t very nicely finished. In my opinion, it is definitely a “rustic” finish. For that reason, I gave the gift table item 4 stars. It isn’t pretty. But, overall I would recommend it and I would order it again.
