BOOK DESCRIPTION: (See Author Link for other journals) For the gardener who wants to enjoy the benefits of gardening, without the frustrations. FOR THE COST OF ONE SIMPLE GARDEN TOOL, you can OWN THE MOST VALUABLE GARDEN TOOL OF ALL; one that will save you hundreds and perhaps thousands of dollars in mistakes. Even more valuable than your favorite garden trowel or spade is a written record of what works in your garden. WHILE GARDENING BOOKS AND THE INTERNET ARE FULL OF GREAT ADVICE, THEY CANโT REPLACE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Your garden is in your micro-climate, with your soil. Perennials in one part of the country arenโt perennials in another. There are simply too many plants and too many variables for anyone to remember from year to year what worked where and what didnโt and why. You need to remember WHAT WORKS FOR YOUโIN YOUR GARDEN. Every gardener faces repeat attacks of pests or disease and needs to remember which treatment worked and which did more harm than good. Every gardener has weeded out emerging perennials, forgetting what they planted where. Every gardener needs a memory! THE GARDEN JOURNAL, PLANNER & LOG BOOK is a book of garden forms with the flexibility needed to personalize your style of record keeping. With this one book you can track your purchases from store to harvest to propagation, and never waste money and labor again. What really makes the difference between a great and a mediocre garden is how well the gardener keeps track of all the information needed to enhance success and avoid repeated failures. GARDENING IS AN ART, BUT ITโS ALSO A SCIENCE. THE GARDEN JOURNAL , PLANNER & LOG BOOK is designed to make record-keeping simple and easy. Every form is designed to include all the pertinent information needed, while minimizing the amount of time required to record that information. Just on the individual plant pages alone, there are over fifty possible check boxes for each plant. Use as many or as few as you desire, and record as much or as little as you wish in the spaces for other information. โขFill out log pages for annuals, biennials and perennials, with the location of each plant โขKeep track of the lifecycle of all your flowers, herbs, vines, etc. on log pages. โขFill in the times to prune, trim and tidy which plants by season, depending on your area. โขMake a plan for up to four years on the planning pages. โขDraw out garden plots for twenty beds on graph paper with notes on the pages opposite. โขKeep records of hardscaping, weather, formulas, pests and diseases, cultivation and propagation, bloom and harvest times, flowers, bulbs, fruit, vegetables, herbs, vines, shrubs and trees. โขKeep a diary for all the things you simply must write out using sentences or drawings, because as much as gardening is a science, it is an art above all. YOUR GARDEN WILL LOOK LIKE ART; but you will know thatTHE GARDEN JOURNAL, PLANNER & LOG BOOK is the science behind your success. Author's note: The book binding is hinged on the 11" top edge, to open like a calendar. Due to the fact that the printing company does not have in place protocols to handle an 11" landscape spine layout, the result is an incorrectly rotated image on the sales page. Review: Love this garden planning book! - My daughter was looking for a garden plan book. We viewed so many books on desertcart. This won hands down! I ordered 2! My daughter has already taken it to a copy shop for spiral binding (about $4.00). She is an avid gardener. (I'm more of a plant it and let it fend for itself gardener. This is why I really appreciate perennials!) This book works for both of us. It allows planning for every kind of garden. There are forms for keeping track of what and where you bought it. You can track your local annual growing conditions and when your flowers bloomed or veggies were harvested. One form has every way to identify a plant including if it is poisonous, which part and to whom. We gave our grandkids a puppy last year so this is vital info for my daughter. The book has a generous amount of each form. (We really like the grid ded planning pages.) It's almost an inch thick and is surprisingly heavy. It's well worth the very reasonable price. Special note: the book says you can download copies of the pages, but you actually can't. The book was published in around 2016 so I guess the author didn't get that far or it's been too long ago. Not a big issue if you have a copier. Review: Very detailed journal for gardening - Got this as a gift for my husband who has a bit of green thumb. From what I have read this is the journal to get for all things gardening. I hope he likes and is able to make good use of it!

Definitely more of a record book, not a planner
I ordered 3 garden planners, not knowing which I'd like, and since they don't show many pictures of the book, I wanted to write a detailed review to help other gardeners choose. This could be a great book for you. It wasn't quite what I had in mind, so I am returning it. This is not really a book for planning. There is very little of it for mapping things out, making to fo lists, etc. It's more of a record book of whats in your garden. I'll go section by section. 1. First, you have about 6 pages, all identical, to record all of your favorite seed companies. I only order from less than 5 companies, so I don't need the 42 slots to write down seed company names and info. 2. You have about 6 more pages to record everything you purchase. I personally don't have a reason or time to do this. Maybe if you are selling produce and need to keep a budget, this could help you. I'd rather not reflect on how much money I spend on my garden. 3. You get about 17 pages to record the weather each day. I'm not retired, and even if I was, I don't think I'd have time, reason, or the discipline to record the daily weather. But other gardeners may love this. 4. Next up is several pages where you can list and chart what you've planted and when it blooms or us harvested. These pages are pretty nice! It could be fun to chart this to make sure your garden always has something in bloom. 5. The next section has about 20 pages that have graph paper on one side and lined paper on the other. This is the one section where you could plan out your garden. I do like that there are so many pages of graph paper. 6. The next section is a good chunk of the book and each page let's you record very detailed info on each plant. What I don't like is that it would be hard to alphabetize and add more plants later. 7. After this is more pages with logs to give quick less detailed notes about plants, divided by category. These pages are in chart form 8. After that is many lined pages for a gardening diary, lined pages to plan each month. 9. Lastly, there are pages to record pruning, pest control, propagation, recipes from your crops, etc. This book has so many different pages and if you love the idea of having a record of what you've done and what you have in your garden, especially if your garden is huge, you'll love this book. I wanted something more where I could have to do lists, week by week, and this wasn't quite it.

I lOVE IT! Excited to begin!
We just moved to an acreage this past summer and hope to begin a veggie and fruit garden. I have been searching for a helpful and cute way to track our garden...mostly crop rotation and plant data. This will help for sure! It is quite feminine/cute too with little plants and flowers drawn on the pages in the margins. I like this, but if you're searching for a more masculine journal or record book for your garden, this might not be it. It's not a hindrance to the effectiveness of the book, just a stylistic trend worth noting. The other thing I like is the presence of the page categories on the open edge of the book. This helps you quickly find the section you need be it weather log, garden plot, various plant logs, etc.. The author gives permission to take part and copy her pages (as long as you do not mass produce with intent to sell or give away), to truly make your own journal. I will likely do this as I will require more pages than what is available in some sections. It has a page of the U.S. Agricultural Zone Map, charts and tables with measurement conversions, and it has a page devoting to tree pruning (instructions and images) as well as soil, worm and drainage tests that you can easily do on your own. There's a lot of space to fill in if you choose to, or you could probably scratch out and rename some sections to meet your needs, but the base level of this book is fantastic!

Easy to modify to suit your needs
As other reviewers state, the author encourages us to use this journal as we wish. I did not have the patience for softening the glue with a hair dryer. I did zap the spine briefly with my iron, but I found that if I carefully removed the back cover, I could peel of a few pages at a time, as one does with a tablet of paper bound in this way. I put the front cover in the clear view pocket of a binder, and punched holes in the pages. I put the growing zone map in a page protector, and I will likely employ page protectors for other reference sheets that I may add, and use from year to year. I intend to add some sheets of sketch paper, and perhaps some plastic photograph holders. I will make copies of the sheets I need to use more often, too. I expect I will need to move it all to a bigger binder as time goes on, or perhaps split it into a reference/ historical binder and a current use binder. But the journal will be able to travel with me through my gardening journey for many years. We have just moved to a country property, much overgrown and untended for years, and are transforming it to be our idea of the perfect rambling garden. I envision garden "rooms" with paths between them, each fitting in the slightly wild and fanciful whole, but each with its own personality. I am new to gardening on this scale, having had a postage stamp yard in the city, and I have much to learn, and much experimenting to do. Keeping track of successes and failures in my journal should be helpful. It is a wonderful journal, and in a binder, it allows you to customize as much or as little as you wish. I cannot wait to begin!

It will do.
The book has worksheets and they are useful but the copies are poor. Plus lots of copies of the same sheet. It's it a journal or a workbook? Hard to say because the work sheets are group together instead of in a fashion that would be useful. So either the pages are removed or tabbed. But then there isn't that many copies. Like five or so. So it's difficult to use as a linear journal for historical purposes.

Well thought out design, ideal tool for organizing and keeping detailed records
Finally! This is the perfect solution for my garden documentation. I couldn't tell from the page previews, but I took a chance after disappointment with other planners. This has everything I was looking for and more. There are sections for everything- recording weather, plot design, individual plant pages, logs for types of plants, the diary pages, propagation pages, and even formulas pages (I need to know eg how many gallons of water needed to give a 6 ft diameter raised bed one inch of captured rainwater, how many gallons cistern for 2000 sq ft of beds, etc). I worked out charts for permaculture guilds for our location which I will glue into the book. Otherwise all my other notes will be easy to consolidate here. Unlike other planners, this doesn't read like a how to book- it's just lots of really well designed pages for me to record and organize my notes. Bravo! And thanks a million. March 20th - I used a blow dryer to soften the glue to separate the pages, trimmed the edges, then made holes with 3 hole punch and placed in a big 3 ring binder. Just need a few more pages for logs and individual plant data -- did not know I had so much data accumulated over the past 3 years and to use divider pages for the major sections. I keep all my seed packets in a 4 inch thick binder too, in 4x6 inch photo pages, so I like having another binder solution.

Helpful
Had all of the pages I needed and more. I will be able to use this for a couple of years. This was my first year tracking my garden. It was helpful with knowing when things should be ready to harvest.

Great,practical product
Great book, although by American author, still 100% usefull in UK.Loads of space for my own notes as well as loads of pre-printed pages for my records (fruit and veg log, plants log, pests, feed, weather and many more).

... is he second time I bought it as I love the way it is laid out in the journal
This is he second time I bought it as I love the way it is laid out in the journal. You pretty much record everything from the time you sow the seeds, the plant culture, the weather and the possible disease and the historical treatment. Once they are recorded in the journal, it's your asset and the knowledge bank that you can apply forever.

Its based on America otherwise a good product
Didn't really pay attention to the order and didn't realise it was an american produced item. This means it has pages within it that reference America e.g the different planting zones, so stuff like that isn't relevant to other markets. Otherwise its a very handy product for keeping a garden log. Garden logs are a must if you wanna figure out your garden but perhaps see if you can find one produced in your own country. If yer a yank, go for it.
