Let there be light
I already own several Makita cordless tools, therefore I have the batteries that fit this item. So there was no additional expense for a battery (as this item is "tool only"). I bought this light mainly as a trouble light when I'm working on my car and as a general flashlight. But then I realized with the 90 degree movable head, it might be a great light source during power outages. Sure enough the flood mode lit up my living room (approx 140 sq ft) very well when I sat it down on the coffee table and pointed the light at the ceiling. Obviously not as good as electric lights, but you could easily read a book with it on, if you wanted. The spot mode works great as a flashlight, better than any of the flashlights I already own. It has a metal hanger you can fold out, so you could suspend it with the supplied strap from a hook if you wished. But, it doesn't come cheap. I paid about $80 and I've seen it at closer to $90. Remember that's without the battery. If you don't own other Makita 18v cordless tools, you will want to pass on this. For those who are a part of the Makita "ecosystem"... According to the manual: A 4.0Ah battery (BL1840B) will get you 6.5 hrs on spot mode, 5.0 hrs on flood mode and 4.0 hrs flood/spot combo. A 5.0Ah battery (BL1850B) will get you 8.5 hrs on spot mode, 6.5 hrs on flood mode and 5.0 hrs flood/spot combo. The product itself gets 5 stars, it does what it says it does. The build quality of this light is as good as the other the Makita tools I own.

Buy one and done. Expensive, but portable and powerful.
If you're already in the Makita family of batteries and are looking for a "buy one and done" type of light, this is it. It's super powerful and has a few modes depending on whether you want a spotlight or to light up the entire room. Lightweight, portable, and durable overall... but I am a bit concerned about the strength of the plastic lens itself (just have to be careful when throwing it in your work bag). It's expensive, but works so well you can justify having it as part of your Makita set. With the new 18V batteries it lasts over 6+ hours being constantly on... more than enough to take on weekend trip, job site, or to have at home without worrying about it going out during a DIY project.

Pretty dang good
I’ve had this for about 3 months now and it works great. The visibility you get out of this in the dark is great. It’s like a truck 4 led cube light. About 1000 lumens if I head to guess. I’ve used on the lake at night when salvaging a house boat. I used 2 batteries that night. Battery life is pretty good I would say a 4 amp last about 4.5 to 5 hours. I would say it about an amp an hour. Seems to be durable. I’ve dropped it in the water and used it in the water with no issues. The only thing is it is very top heavy. And that the adjustment is slightly annoying it never wants to snap where you need it but I use it for a hand held device so no big deal. Hope this helps!

Best light
I live in Florida and need a light for power outages and storms etc. this light will do a great job. It’s good for pitch black and locating at night. Great as a work light. The Makita batteries perform great. They take only 30 minutes to charge. That’s the best around. There 18 volt is plenty to get the job done. I own this light, their drill, blower, and sander. I also own a corded Circular saw. Cuts like butter. The best equipment. Worth the money. Update. It’s been 2 years. The thing is used a lot on my property. It lights up half my lot with ease and adjusts from a flashlight to a space light and just lights up the entire area. Great for projects and looking around your property. Best flashlight ever.

good light but swivel head has only four detents
This work light suffers from the same flaw as other Makita work lights in that the head swivel is limited by the number of built-in detents. There are precisely four detents over a 90-degree arc. The head will settle on: 0 degree (horizontal), 30 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees (vertical). The head does not stay on any other angles. There are five lighting elements. There is one larger element in the middle for use in Spot mode, which gives off 1,000 lumens. This larger element has a reflector around it. It gives out The reflector creates a very tight central beam. How tight? It casts a tight 7"-diameter beam at 20 feet out and about 1 ft.-diameter beam at 40 feet out. The tight beam looks almost like a well defined disk. Then there are four smaller elements in the four corners of the head for use in Flood mode, which gives off 1,250 lumens. These four elements project a diffuse area light. I consider the total light output from just the flood mode to be adequate for most situations, but barely adequate for some other situations. You can also activate both spot mode and flood mode at the same time. This is where the limitation of having only 4 detents will manifest itself. Makita keeps making worklights with very limiting 4 detents. I wonder why. There is also a strobe mode that can be accessed by holding the mode switch for a couple seconds. The mode switch will remember which mode it is on after it's been turned off and turned back on. With a 5 Amp-Hour battery, the battery life is: 8.5 hrs. in spot mode, 6.5 hrs. in flood mode, 5 hrs in spot + flood mode simultaneously, and 7 hrs in strobe mode.

Works great except for one big flaw.
This thing is extremely bright. The spotlight can be seen 1/4 mile away, the flood light lights up a whole room without being blinding, and the battery lasts a long time (haven't measured it). The only flaw is that the light can be pointed up but not down, so you can't set it on a counter or shelf and illuminate something below it. Not sure why they did that.

Solid LED spot/flood Cordless Light in the Makita LXT Ecosystem
This cordless LED unit from Makita is a beast. Provides a very powerful spotlight beam, and a strong wide angle flood function as well. Fits great into my Makita LXT ecosystem of cordless tools. Head pivots up to 90 degrees which is extremely useful. I do a lot of work on my classic car, in the engine compartment, passenger compartment and under the car. This unit provides long lasting bright lighting to any environment.

Great light if you are Makita
This is a great light. I have all Makita, so it was a natural. I have other Makita lights, but this is by far the best. Flood is bright, spot is bright, combined is very bright. Honestly wish you could turn it down, but I can live with that. Lasts a long time with 5Ah batteries. Nice hanger when you need it. Stans on it's own on the battery most of the time. Seems tough.

Lo mejor de lo mejor
Por primera vez quedé fascinado con esta compra, te proporciona una luz inigualable, claro y si ya cuentas con las baterías no tendría por qué faltarte esta lámpara. 1000% recomendable, no te vas a arrepentir. Detallitos como golpes en la caja pero lo importante que es la herramienta sin rasguño alguno. Y si me preguntan que si la volvería a comprar definitivamente claro que sí.
