Excellent book.
Very well written. The book gave me a much greater understanding about sleep apnea and associated health challenges as well as lots of information about treatment options.

Very poorly structured
I have sleep apnea and was very hopeful about this book given the rave reviews. Unfortunately, the authors spend way too much time on gory details and are all over the place in their presentation. they cover a tremendous amount of ground on the secondary and even speculative causes of sleep apnea. Although I plan to read the whole book I stopped because it is just too tedious. There are a couple of pages, for example, that list some very technical references to back up claims. There are also some outright errors, like use of the word "pneumatic" instead of "mnemonic." The attempts at humor are also pretty bad. When I get back to this I'll be approaching the part where tongue surgery is recommended. This seems to be their major pitch, but a quick scan shows that this does not have a very high success rate and comes with its own complications.

Great source of information!
After reading this book, it confirmed my suspicion that my doctor believes that cpap is the holy grail.no other testing or options are to be considered. Had one of those home sleep study tests prescribed by her. Couldn't sleep a wink until I took the wires, belts, and cables off me. Not to mention rolling on the transducer box. You have to sleep on your back to use this test, that leaves me out. I have a deviated septum. Get very little input through right nostril. Bought one of the cheap nasal dilators, breathing improved immensely. I Do not snore!

READ this Book
Chock full of good information to know about causes and possible cures for OSA. I was diagnosed with GERD and hiatal hernia 20 years ago. I also have chronic sinus congestion.Recently diagnosed with OSA. I keep telling my sleep doctor that I think my sinus congestion keeps me from breathing but I get no response except to take a decongestant.. in spite of my telling him they do nothing for me. These doctors are the first to explain a connection between GERD and sinus problems, tests that be taken, and surgery that can solve these problems plus possibly end the need for CPAP.

As a practitioner in the field of sleep apnea treatment, I would highly recommend this unique book to individuals as well as health care professionals who deal with sleep apnea and wish to have an informative book to be presented to their patients. It is indeed well written by the experts in the field and is enjoyable to read. This book to my belief is the most comprehensive, concise, informative, valuable and easy-to-read book which in reality summarizes all risks associated with sleep apnea and the corresponding treatment options. An excellent source of information and reference. The best of its kind!

If you don't get along with your CPAP
Dr.s Patel and Dillard absolutely nailed it. You have options, and most physicians will conveniently leave out the options detailed in this book, even though there are rigorous studies showing efficacy of non-CPAP options. If you have been given a CPAP and do not use it all night every night, you owe it to yourself to get educated on the alternatives, and this book is a great start. Don't leave your sleep apnea untreated! Dr. Kent Smith www.SleepDallas.com

Sleep better, Feel better, Live longer
A lot of good accurate information written so that non-doctors can understand it. I am a dentist who helps treat sleep apnea patients, and I plan to keep a few copies in my office to let patients read.

Very Informative
This is packed with information you need to understand what is sleep apnea, what it can do to you and what treatments are out there.I particularly like that the authors are actual practitioner treating people with sleep apnea. Their indept knowledge of the condition and experience in treatment using various procedures and devices is very helpful to sufferers. Particularly, i like their open-minded approach to treatment options even though they have actually developed or perfected a treatment option themselves.Their emphasis that there is a treatment option out there for you regardless of the circumstances of your condition is very encouraging.I am very enlightened about my condition after reading this book.Thank you
