"Sound proofing" is a blanket term, and not a very descriptive one at that. In reality, products like this fall on a spectrum between sound isolation and sound dampening. Isolation is keeping sound on one side from getting to the other side, dampening is lowering sound's ability to bounce off of a surface, less reverb.For isolation, these do practically nothing. You'd need to mechanically separate the vibrations outside from the big walls acting as speakers inside. Professional installations typically involve building a room inside of a room where the "inside" room is as mechanically isolated from the "outside" room as possible. Again, these are polyester panels... They don't do that.For sound dampening, these things are okay. Normally you'd want mass and size, but when you can't afford that luxury in your space, these are not a bad option.I use these as shelf backers, breaking up the whole, "two 90° surfaces reflect sound right back at you" problem. If your shelves are a foot apart vertically, these will press fit pretty nicely between them. I actually attached these to the back of the more traditional egg crate foam panels. I don't think the performance is much better, but it looks more aesthetic. I'd also imagine that these would be great on closet doors where you could break up those big flat surfaces while keeping the profile somewhat low.Overall, for being only a half an inch thick, they definitely do their job for space constrained areas. I'd recommend something deeper for serious dampening (2”+ and offset mounting), but these definitely have a useful purpose.

Great product!! No issues

This product is not a miracle worker. But I’ve suffered with very noisy downstairs neighbors for years now and this is the best relief I’ve gotten yet. My new construction 2nd floor condo was built with barely any useable soundproof in my foyer/staircase. I hear almost everything my downstairs neighbors say when they’re in the room next to my foyer. Not having peace and quiet can truly drive a person insane. Years ago I hired professional soundproofers who basically told me that other than tearing the building down and starting new, there wasn’t much they could do. After a particular noisy few weeks, I decided to try some of these panels. While I’m currently listening to the vibrations of the footsteps of the child downstairs running around, I don’t hear the screams and shrieking quite as loudly as I used to. I just purchased my 5th order of panels because I keep wanting to do more. They look good/subtle, and help dampen the voices. It takes a lot of panels to make a marginal difference but I’ll take it! And I’m happier than I was before I bought these. If you have an area where you can mostly paper with these tiles, give it a try. I’m glad I did.

Was hoping these would absorb a bit more sound but nothing's perfect. I put these up along the sill of my window, along with another type of sound absorbers that I stuck to a large slab of Styrofoam to block out heat/light/sound, didn't do it 100% but it definitely gets 79-85% of it all.

Used these behind my ge refrigerator that was a very loud rumble just from the machine working properly. Works well, I mounted using double sided mounting tape. Easily cut as well with a utility knife, I had to cut a slot out for an outlet.

I really wish folks would publish specs for absorption vs frequency. These things are very dense and seem to be effective only in the 15K and up range. They were pretty useless for helping with "first reflection" in the upper midrange. They do make a fine bulletin for posting notes. two packs and a lot of work, probably headed for the trash.

These foam panels are DENSE. I'm genuinely surprised at the quality and density of these panels, as these types of items can easily be very hit or miss when ordering from Amazon. Even just talking into the foam wall compared to talking at a bare wall, it is very clear that this product does a great job at sound ABSORPTION.I want to be VERY CLEAR that these are sound ABSORPTION panels, meant to reduce echo within the room. It is NOT meant to "block out your neighbours", so make sure you're buying them for the right reasons.I haven't truly tested to see how well they work in my environment, but considering how well they worked when directly talking at the wall, I believe it's a matter of quantity, not quality, to get the desired result.

I've been working from home since pandemic, and I share office space with my wife. We both have meetings, so you can imagine the noise! I first tried a moving blanket (those thick blankets movers put on pianos and furniture to protect them). Hanging on the wall, it helped a lot to cut reverb/echo in the office.We moved the office into a new room, and I took the opportunity to use real sound treatment panels - so I tried those. They work really well - and they do what they promise:- They cut on ringing/reverb in a room. Clap your hands loudly in the middle of the room you want to treat. You may hear metallic reverb. These panels help to cut that tremendously. Music also plays much more cleanly, especially at higher volume from my studio monitors.- They do not expand or smell. They smell nothing and are ready to apply right away after unpacking.- They weigh next to nothing: you need 3M command strips to hold those to the wall. Two small strips work wonders, and unless you intend to do a mosh-pit in your room, the panels will stay on the walls. For ceiling application, you definitely need more double-adhesive.- They do NOT make a wall or door soundproof. They cut down the echo/reverb and cut a bit on sound, but that is NOT their purpose to soundproof.- You need a lot of these. I suggest you search online for "sound treatment calculator" and you will find plenty of websites to calculate how many panels you need to cover your walls/ceiling. I bought three packs of 12 for a medium room. I may need more to treat the ceiling.- You CAN get mostly the same effect with those moving blankets. It's probably not that much cheaper, just a lot uglier.
