How narrow of a strip does it cut?

HI,THIS TOOL IS VERY HANDY AND USEFUL FOR ANY KIND OF LEATHERWORKS.I USE IT FOR 20MM STRAPS WITH VERY CLEAN SIDES. I CAN TRIM 2,5MM EXCESS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE STRAP WITH NO PROBLEM BUT SO AS TO HAVE A VERY CLEAN CUT YOU MUST HAVE A CLEAN ONE SIDE OF THE STRAP.WHILE PULLING THE STRAP ON THE CUTTER YOU MAY REINFORCE THE UNCUT STRAP TOWARDS THE HANDLE WITH YOUR FINGERS.

Can this be used to cut tapered strands for whip making?

Not tapered no. The width is not variable a long the cut.
