Mach One 3/4-4/4 Violin Maple Wood Shoulder Rest

Coming from someone who has been studying violin and viola for nearly 30 years, the Mach one is the best!

The shoulder rest us stable and allows me to hold my instrument without shoulder tension. The pad, however, that contacts my shoulder came scuffed up and looks like it might have been in used.

I was trying a bunch of shoulder rests earlier since I changed to a higher chinrest. This was one of the best shoulder rests I've tried in terms of the shape that fit my shoulder. However, it kept slipping when I play (which can be really scary!) and I think the padding on the rest is not soft/thick enough, although not terrible. So it was returned.I also ordered the one without hook together, however it also had the slipping problem and to me this one (with hook) was better despite they have exactly the same shape.

I have a violin made in 1994 and another made in 1739. The newer instrument is heavy and sturdy and can withstand the added weight of a Kun shoulder rest. The older instrument is very delicate and I could tell a big difference in sound quality when I played with my old Kun and then played with no shoulder rest at all. The Kun acted as a mute. The Mach One doesn't add weight or restrict the old violin's resonance nearly as much as the heavier Kun.The Mach One's rubber feet do a much better job of gripping the instrument than the Kun's do. My old Kun always fell off whenever I brought my violin down from my shoulder. The Mach One always stays in place.This shoulder rest is definitely worth the investment -- plus it's very pretty!

I gifted the Mach 1 to my wife who is going to college for musical performance. She had been complaining that her current shoulder rest was somewhat uncomfortable over long periods of time. The Mach 1 was something she told me she had wanted for some time. I purchased this and she has loved it, now that might be just what she is telling me because i gifted it to her but, she does say she is more comfortable with it. She says she has less fatigue and it is more comfortable playing and holding the instrument with her shoulder. It is very stylish and looks better then most common plastic shoulder rests. Worth the money!

Very comfortable, light, and grips on clothes well. But the rubber material does not have enough friction to stay put in the instrument. It ends being adjusted after every piece.

This shoulder rest took a little getting used to. It wasn't quite as comfortable as I thought it would be. It does look nice though. I also prefer a shoulder rest that is a little higher (although this one does adjust). I wish it came with instructions labeling how to put it together, and what to do for certain variations (like height and size). I do like it now after I've used it for several months, but I don't know that I would buy this brand again.
