A Solid Budget Gaming Headset That Delivers Strong Performance Without Overspending
I love them!! For a budget-friendly gaming headset, the JBL Quantum 100 delivers surprisingly solid performance where it matters most. The sound quality is clear and immersive enough for casual to moderate gaming, with good directional audio that can genuinely enhance gameplay without feeling overly exaggerated. The microphone performs well for team communication, and the detachable design is a practical bonus. Comfort is another strong point, especially for longer sessions, thanks to the cushioned ear cups. While these won’t compete with premium gaming headsets in terms of advanced features, deeper bass, or high-end materials, they offer strong overall value for the price. Build quality is decent, though somewhat lightweight, which may feel less premium to some users. Overall, this headset strikes a very good balance between affordability, comfort, and functional gaming performance.

Probably Best-in-class.
I'm very happy with this headset. It feels like it gives you the most you could reasonably ask for, for 40 bucks. I use it for gaming on my PS5 and my steam deck. They sound good out of the box, there's no settings to tamper with. I play Hunt: Showdown with them. Spatial audio is a very important part of that game, and they work well for that. Back in the PS4 era I bought a premium gaming headset from Sony. It was like $200+. These $40 ones really are not worse than those $200 ones. In fact, they're better in a few ways: - They're not gaudy. Plain black. No flashing lights or garish colors. (A plus for me, anyway. I'm an old man now.) - The "premium" materials of my old Sony ones made them heavy. They would hurt my head after a while of gaming with them. These JBLs are very light and do not have that problem. - The removable mic makes them useable as regular headphones. Also I have a big head and they fit well for me (although they are only one click away from fully extended). Look, this product is only $40. It's not going to FEEL particularly high quality out of the box. But if you're gentle with them like I'll be, I expect they'll last. I'm impressed with this headset. I think for the price, you probably can't do better for a pair of at-home gaming headphones. And it's also possible (in my experience) to spend a LOT more and actually get something worse.

I got what I paid for, and I wasn't disappointed.
After using this headset for almost 4 & 1/2 years, I'd say that it performed pretty well for its price. As someone who isn’t an audiophile, I found the sound quality for both the mic and earpieces to be fine for gaming and everyday use with no issues wearing the headset for extended periods. The JBL Quantum 100 could benefit from improved durability. The plastic frame allows for a snug fit, but the plastic joints that allow the ear pieces to rotate are pretty weak. After years of use, one of the joints is close to breaking, with bits of plastic chipping away within the last few months. I might keep it as a spare if I can somehow fix it since the audio and mic functionality remain intact. Overall, the headset is comfortable and functional, but if longevity is high priority, this might not be your ideal pick.

Awesome but no noise canceling
I believe I have a previous model, which is what this review is for if the model was updated. My mic has a foam tip but this is what was on my previous orders list. I recently bought a Zoom PodTrak P4 and it came in a set with Zoom headphones. The audio sound on the Zoom is fine but the headphones do not adjust. I have a large head and large ears. These fit my head well and stay in place. The sound quality is amazing. And the additional volume knob is really nice to have. The on/off switch is nice to isolate quickly without having to go to any app. However the set still works audibly. They are straightforward high quality headphones. I won't diminish a star for it not having a noise canceling but it would be nice if they had that, or even some sound protection function just to help isolate me from the external environment. If you don't have a problem like that, these are perfect and well worth the price. -update after some time and use I am started to notice intermittent clicking. My guess is that it is from the wire that is losing contact. It is a very thin wire cable. It isn't terrible but since it isn't able to be detached it can't be replaced. I play with the cable but can't replicate the clicks so I can't find where the break is. If there is one. These are still very good for the price. If better care is given to them, I am sure the break or the clicking can be avoided. It isn't isolated to a single device but is repeated between a sony voice recorder, my computer and my Zoom podtrak p4. so it has got to be the headphones.

Noise cancellation so good the cops might get called?
So there I am, trying to win this round and I have on my brand new JBL headphones. Got the sound on the PlayStation and the headphones to the max. And yeah, I was getting my butt kicked. But they were cheating. Or maybe I just sucked. Okay, maybe I got a little loud, I was frustrated. I didn't think I got that loud because the noise cancellation on these things is superb. I thought I was just talking loud not yelling at the top of my lungs. Well, woke up the roommate who thought I was having a horrific battle, he comes downstairs calling out my name and hears Dead silence. He's yelling my name at the top of his lungs, but the comfort and the fit is so snug I didn't hear anything. Now, I don't know when he called the police. But what I do know is he comes barging into the living room asking me what's going on and if I'm okay. While taking the headphones off I hear how quiet the house is and immediately apologize for being too loud. At this moment I noticed he's clutching his cell phone, and he says into the speaker it's okay boys everything's fine not everything's just fine. I asked him if he had called the police. Sensibly, he had. So now we're on the front porch talking to three police officers, and I have to explain that I just got these brand new JBL gaming headphones and that they just work amazing. The one officer was annoyed, that's fair. The other two just nodded in understanding and solidarity. 5 stars, definitely recommend!

1-Year Mark
I have now had my headphones (White) for a full year and a half - I bought them in April 2021, and they still work great. I have a smaller head, and the lowest size setting actually fits, so I suppose that means they run a little bit small but that's exactly what I need. As no other headphones fit me on their smallest setting, I have been extremely impressed of the quality of my (on-sale) $30 mic'd headphones. - Sound quality is superior for the price, very balanced and of good quality. I have been impressed, and after a year nothing has deteriorated in sound quality. I don't know the right word, but I'm able to get the surround-sound that is needed for first-person shooter games. I know where my enemies are coming from! It's not something I expected from this headset, but I was very pleasantly surprised! - The one minus here is that the mike is a little bit on the quiet side, and I have to manually turn myself up in Discord/Zoom/Steam. But after that, it's a very clear sound without muffling and usually only picks up my voice. It is a detachable mike, but I've detached and reattached it several times, bent and unbent the mike angle, and it still seems durable with zero break-down. I keep it unattached for the most part and have yet to lose it. - The headset itself is very, very comfortable. I can wear it for hours on end without issues or headaches. It is made of a cheaper light-weight plastic, but it's also durable enough to have lasted well over a year - and going! The swivel of the ears also helps with comfort and for "sealing" in the sound. So unless the *look* of quality is what you're going for, the light-weight plastic is actually a plus for comfort at a $30 price tag. - The cord is shorter, but if your PC is next to your desk, it won't be an issue. For a fitting pair of headphones with gaming-level quality, accurate sound positioning for games like Halo and Apex (among others), quality sound and comfort, detachable microphone, and a $30 price tag, these are far superior to anything I have ever gotten in the past. If a quieter mike and short cord aren't issues for you, and you're a gamer/student like me looking for quality on a really small budget, these may be the best headphones out there.

Up 70% in 2.5 years
I bought these in October 2023 for Twenty-six dollars, and at that price they were 5 stars; however, at the current price, not so much. I bought them for Teams meetings. Others said the mic sounded good. There is a mute and volume control on the left ear cup. Unless your laptop is on the desk right in front of you, then you'll need an extension cable. HOWEVER, the biggest issue is the amount of noise you can hear through the headphones. If you're playing a FPS game, this might not be an issue, but for a meeting, especially when I could hear others in the same meeting four cubes away, then a second later through the speakers, it was annoying. For the new price, I'd look at other models.

Simple, affordable headset without any annoying extras. (Realtek users, see last paragraph)
I'm not a fan of gaming headsets that come with their own software, have annoying bright lights, 70 mile long cables that get tangled up, and especially those little midway connectors that can control volume and come unplugged if you tug on the cable by accident. I'm happy to say this is a minimalist gaming headset that fits exactly what my needs are. The headset is comfortable (it is slightly tight like the other reviews said, but I personally prefer that type of fit), the microphone sounds surprisingly good and clear for the price (I have a deeper voice and people noted how much deeper my voice sounded compared to my old headset) and can bend and stay in place where you need it. You just need to buy a $6 TRRS to dual TRS headphone/mic splitter if your computer has separate headphone/mic ports. (I just bought the one that was listed as frequently bought together and it worked fine.) I can see what people are saying about the plastic build quality being susceptible to cracking, as I've done this by accident with an old headset, but if you don't rip your headphones off your head with one hand like an animal you shouldn't have a problem. The audio quality of the headphones is totally acceptable for the price range. Yes it is a little boomy in the low mids, but if you just EQ your audio output that can be reduced and molded to your preference anyway, and the result is a very nice and punchy bass sound. I see reviews that say the sound is better on xyz headphones, but those other brands being compared to are in the $100 range at least. Either way, if you have the expectation of audiophile-tier sound quality, then why would you get a gaming headset? The only reason to get a gaming headset is to avoid the hassle/cost of setting up a separate mic and headphones so it can be all in one, knowing that you are sacrificing audio quality for the convenience. A mic small enough to attach to a headset will never come close to a LDC mic. For my money, a lower tier headset is totally fine for everyday gaming and casual music listening. For $30, I don't really know what more I could want from this product, other than maybe it coming with the TRRS to dual TRS headphone/mic splitter for my laptop's inputs. I might even buy an extra pair in case these ever go out of stock because most headsets are migrating towards bulkier and RGB laden designs I don't enjoy, and it's getting harder to find headsets that are lightweight and minimalist in their design like these are. Initially I had troubles getting Discord to recognize the mic until I realized my Realtek Audio Manager needed to manually set this as a default mic (Go to Microphone -> Set Default Device in Realtek), and I had to uncheck the awful noise suppression setting (Not the Discord one, the Realtek one) to get the full mic quality. This is also specific issues to my computer's software though and in no way reflects the product's quality, I just figured anyone else with this same problem might want the info.

Budget Friendly Series #2: Soli Budget-Friendly Headset
JBL Quantum 100 Gaming Headset: A Solid Budget-Friendly Choice One drawback, aside from the lack of noise canceling, is that the headset might not be the best choice for music listening. In noisy environments, it may not provide the optimal experience. Additionally, its sound profile is tailored more towards directional audio and in-game effects, rather than offering a balanced or immersive music playback. The JBL Quantum 100 gaming headset proves to be an excellent option for those seeking a budget-friendly solution for gaming. It's particularly well-suited for casual gamers who enjoy relaxing gameplay, chatting with friends, or even diving into games like Valorant—though I wouldn’t recommend it for high-stakes competitive play. The sound quality of this headset is quite impressive for its price. While it doesn’t feature active noise canceling, it still delivers immersive audio that lets you catch nearly every detail in your game. The audio experience is engaging and satisfying, enhancing your overall gaming enjoyment. Another highlight is the detachable boom mic. I’ve had several people inquire about the mic I’m using, and they were surprised by its clarity. Although I use the Voicemeter app to further enhance my voice quality, the Quantum 100 performs admirably both with and without additional voice enhancement tools. In terms of build quality, I’d rate the Quantum 100 an 8/10. While it doesn’t match the comfort of more expensive models, it’s still a solid performer in the budget category. The adjustable headband and plush ear cushions offer a comfortable fit, and the headset is lightweight, making it easy to wear for extended sessions. Overall, the JBL Quantum 100 delivers great value for its price. It combines good sound quality, a clear mic, and a comfortable design, making it a reliable choice for gamers on a budget.
