Great tool that I wish I had bought weeks earlier
In hindsight I should have bought this 2 weeks earlier than I did. I had been using traditional manual scrapers, which let flakes fly, and even with new blades they don't seem quite as sharp as this tool. With all those flakes I had lots of cleanup after every session and was limited to low wind days. As a weekend project, that really limited my progress. Glad I bought a package of replacement blades. The residual paint I was removing was tough and after a few days I had to reverse the original blade. After a few days, as I ran out of fall weekend days doing perhaps 15-20 square feet down to bare wood per multi-hour session, I had to use the first replacement blade, of a 10-blade (20-edge) pack. Pluses and minuses: + Not having to wait for a low wind day + Having far fewer paint chips get away onto the tarps below meant I could work the project anytime I had 2 free hours + Excellent paint cutting and flaking action - Not good at getting into tighter spaces, like where a clapboard meets a trim board (use a smaller hand scraper) - Your vacuum will get quite the workout, with appropriate filters eventually clogging long before the container fills - It may take a bit to find the right hose and end. My original dust collector hose was just a little too fat to fit inside the handle, but I found another hose whose end fit snugly OVER the handle.

So useful!
The Viper is an amazing tool for paint removal. I attached it to my shop vac (fitted with hepa filters) and the Viper collects nearly every bit of paint flakes and dust as you work. The carbide blades are easy to change, sharp, and long-lasting, providing the surface is free of nails. The only suggestion I have is to find a better way to lock the device to the vacuum hose. I did this pretty easily by drilling a hole and screwing them together. Despite this little glitch, it’s so much cleaner and easier to scrape off layers of paint - it still deserves 5 stars. If you have paint to remove, you need this tool!

Must be Stronk like Bull to use
Easy to use. A bit expensive. Light. Decent quality. The angle of the scraper is just slightly stringent. I would like to have the blade slightly in a different position but the rigid tail doesn’t allow it. A traditional good carbide scraper will do the work so much better. Not very versatile. However if you’re really putting those thick wrists of yours to work you’ll realize the dust control on this plus a hepa vac will outperform chemical stripping by a good mile. But you gotta be kinda strong. If you got weak wrists and your arms are a bit like noodles this won’t pan out for you.

Effective scraper and effortless cleanup
I recently purchased an older home that has some chipping paint around the windows and sills. I purchased this scraper as well as the Oneida Dust Deputy and this makes scraping the paint and cleanup effortless. The scraper works by pulling instead of pushing and the chips are collected as they are scraped via the dust collection port in the back. The scraper did occasionally clog with some large paint chips coming off, but was easy to clean once that happened. The combination with the Dust Deputy cyclone vacuum meant that my vacuum never lost suction due to a clogged filter. The overall scraper is light and fits well in my hand and seems well made. The double-edged blade is a nice feature as well because you essentially get two scrapers in one.

Read on if you are scraping a house.
First, the basics - shipping was prompt and the device is as it looks. Second, strength - It is very durable. I dropped it several times from a ladder with no damage. Third, the Connection - I have a Rigid 2.5" hose. I used the 1 7/8" adapter to connect the Viper . It is not a tight fit and the Viper repeatedly came loose (usually when I was up on a ladder). Either taping the two together or holding both Viper and Hose is a work around. However, Oneida should offer a tight adapter as an option. Fourth, operation - I bought the Viper to help me scrape the ceiling & beams of a large wooden Queen Ann Porch Roof - that had lead paint. If the Viper had worked it could have saved hours of cleanup not to mention preventing lead dust. Unfortunately, [a] when scraping by pulling on a vertical wall or on an overhead ceiling, too much material comes loose AS THE BLADE PASSES the spot and therefore does not go into the vacuum. [b] I then switching the blade to the push direction and found a BAD DESIGN. The push side screws are too low to expose enough blade to get the job done. If you are scraping downward on a horizontal surface or even a vertical surface where you are safely on the ground and can hold the Viper with both hands and can PULL IT SLOWLY, the Viper should be 100% effective. If you hope to remove badly clipped lead paint from overhead or a wall while on a ladder, this may not be the tool for you.

Indispensable Tools for Scraping Lead Paint
I’ve been renovating doors and windows in our 120 year old home and was worried about containing the lead dust. I bought the Viper several months ago to hook up to my Festool HEPA vacuum based on a recommendation from a window restoration expert. The problem was I couldn’t find an adapter that would fit ends of both the Viper and Festool. A couple of weeks ago I went to a local hardware store to find some adapter that would work. Instead of the $30 most companies charge for Festool adapters I bought a $.99 PVC connector which I plugged into the Viper adapter; it worked perfectly. The Viper / Festool combinations is excellent with virtually no dust escaping the suction. I’ve scraped two sashes down to bare wood along with two window frames and am still using the original Viper blades. The Viper is now the only tool we use to scrape lead paint. Excellent product.

Sharp and comfortable.
The blade is sharp, but order replacements if you have more than three hundred feet or so. Suction power is good with a Ridgid 14 gallon 6HP shop vac fitted with an OSHA compliant HEPA filtration system and a 25 foot hose. I used a larger adapter to go around the outside of the handle to get better suction. Alternatively, you can use a smaller 1.25 inch adapter to fit the inside diameter. Flakes tend to escape, but it's respirable dust we're worried about, not large flakes. Use a drop cloth. Scraping, I have found, is brutal hard work. And you might want to consider other means of paint removal if you don't enjoy being thoroughly exhausted at the end of four or five hours of work. It would also be nice to get a push-type scraper blade (sold separately), as a pull scraper has some limitations.

Will break easily.
Did a great good collecting 99 percent of dust and 90 percent of paint shaving. Broke as soon as I changed the blade. Cheap screws. Ergonomics suck, it needs a pull handle. I want a refund.

Indeed/ works perfectly
I am impressed. I am a creator/restorer stained glass, wood/door windows. It works extremely well. The mouth(opening) for the suction of the dust is amazing. Construction robust.

It works "ok" but the metal tube works better
It gets clogged very easy. When using it to scrape off lead paint with a hepa vacuum I ended up just using the metal extension tube that comes with the vacuum only and it worked 10x better than this accessory....live and learn...

Blades not available in Canada
The blades are proprietary, and not sold on Amazon .ca, or in any hardware store. So I go right to the source, Oneida’s website but they won’t ship them to Canada!
