Despite seeing some harsh reviews for this lock, I’m giving it five stars for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s prevented my bike from being stolen so far, and I can’t ask for more than that. I mean, it is sort of the entire reason I purchased the lock in the first place. With that in mind, there would have to be some meaningful drawbacks for the lock to have less than five stars. For the sake of comparison, my previous bike lock was a cheap plastic-coated cable with a key lock. While the length and flexibility was nice, it seemed too thin and flimsy, and I was frequently told that bicycle thieves could cut it with ease. Additionally, the locking mechanism frequently malfunctioned, making it difficult to unlock it. By contrast, every part of the Kryptonite U-lock is thicker and more robust. It simply looks and feels far more secure than the previous lock. The locking mechanism itself is also far superior. There is a sliding cover to protect the keyhole from the elements, an excellent feature for rainy Corvallis, OR. I have yet to notice any malfunctions or sticking points when unlocking it. My one minor complaint is that the entire U-shaped portion of the lock completely separates from its base whenever I unlock it. I understand that this ultimately makes it easier to put the lock on more parts of my bike or cover larger distances, but I rarely actually need the lock to completely separate; it would be just fine if it functioned like a normal padlock, with one side of the U-shape pivoting when unlocked. However, this is a minor quibble, and I just have to make sure that I’m holding both parts of the lock before I turn the key all the way. Anyway, the inclusion of a couple useful accessories outweighs the small “separation” drawback. The sturdy steel cable can be used in conjunction with the U-lock, which is handy to secure both of your wheels if your bike is going to be left unattended for a long time. There is also a small device that attaches to your bike frame, allowing you to easily holster the U-lock when you’re bicycling. Overall, this Kryptonite U-lock has done its job, and that’s all I can ask for. My bike hasn’t been stolen, and the lock is a huge upgrade over my last one. Finally, although I could have knocked off a star over the annoying issue of the lock separating, there are two useful accessories that easily outweigh the slight inconvenience. 5/5 stars.

The lock seems solid, and the cover over the keyhole should decrease the likelihood of rust. The 4' cable is the perfect length for securing the front wheel to the back when using the U lock to lock the back wheel (through the back triangle) to a rack. You can't do much more with it, but extra length would mean it would be harder to carry around. These two items sold together are a great team and a great value package. The only area of contention with this package is the much-discussed flex bracket. For me it has worked out perfectly, but I hated it at first. As others have mentioned, the bracket is quite large so it sits out a long way from the frame. In addition, the way the lock slides in and out of the bracket requires quite a lot of extra space. For these reasons, I couldn't place it in the central triangle of the bike as I normally would, for fear of bashing the frame when taking the lock in and out of the bracket. However, there is a fair amount of flexibility in the way your lock is pointing when sat in the bracket, which allows for a lot of experimentation in where to put it. I tried A LOT of different placements and most of them just didn't look good and/or caused the lock to rub on my legs when pedaling. I was just about to give up when I found a position which works well on my bike. I've had no problems with the bracket slipping at all, and am very happy with the purchase. For this reason I give it 5 stars, but I can imagine how others with different models of bike would not have similar luck, and would be very frustrated and disappointed. For information: I have a Trek 7.2fx, and the position I found was at the front end of the cross bar, in front of the break cable (just before it threads out of the tube). The bracket is mounted on the right side of the cross bar (bracket pointing horizontal), with the lock pointing diagonally back and down towards the pedals. Due to the triangular shape of the cross bar here, the bracket sits well against it and doesn't slip. And due to the shape and balance of the lock, the way it is angled is how it would naturally dangle if you balanced it on your hand. This means that the bracket is not trying to fight to keep the lock upright, and therefore adding to the stability. It's not where I would normally mount a lock, but I now like the way it looks, and it feels very stable. I also didn't need to trim the strap for it to fit here.

Large enough to fit around the wheel and frame of my bike at any sort of bike-parking structure, and solid enough to make me feel safe leaving it in a high-traffic area in a big city. I've been using the lock for a about year while I commute every day, and I've never had a problem. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that if I have to lock my bike to a sign post rather than a bike parking rack, this u-lock doesn't always reach my around my wheel and fender. If the sign post is a closed rectangle, I can lock my wheel down, too. If the post has a rectangular front but then flays outward in the back, that makes it a little too wide for the u-lock to fit around. I've ended up either looking for a different post or just locking my frame to the post, which works, but it would be nice not to have to do that all the time, especially since the lock is on the larger side. Another reason for 4 stars: the attachment piece that holds the lock to the bike isn't the easiest to set up or use. I haven't had success finding a suitable spot for it on my bike where it's out of the way of my long legs (and I'm 6'2" with a big bike frame to match) so I just carry it in my bike bag, which isn't a big deal, but since this is one of the features of the product, I would have liked it to work better. The cable is easy to use, flexible and strong, and helps me lock my bike to my girlfriend's bike so we don't have to bring two locks all the time. It also solves the problem I mentioned above of locking my bike to posts that are larger than usual, although I don't always devote the extra space in my bag to bringing the cable, so that use doesn't come in handy all that often. If you have a nice bike, or you are in a place where bike theft is common, you really don't want to mess around with a cheap bike lock. The cost of this lock is much less than the price of a new bike, or new wheel, or a car, so the investment of slightly more dollars for this lock up front makes sense.

I recommend getting this lock. I am a college student that commutes to campus on my bike and we have a big problem with bike theft. I bought a Masterlock lock for this bike and the bike got stolen (luckily I got my bike back). I read a lot of the reviews about this lock and the biggest complaint seemed to be about the mounting piece and not the actual lock so I gave it a try. P.S. if you read the directions, it's not that tough to install on bike! I have had it a few weeks now and I love it! My bike has not been stolen with this lock so it does its job! It is pretty heavy for a bike lock but I find that a good thing because it seems really durable. Also, people complained about the hole where you put your key in and sometimes it gets stuck. . .LEARN TO USE A LOCK! It only gets stuck if you don't insert the key in it ALL THE WAY. You can make that complaint about any lock, keys are designed to go all the way in before you turn it. I don't usually listen to customer reviews for reasons like that. The cord also comes in handy for extra security and it is pretty thick. My ONE complaint about this lock is that there is a black piece of plastic that turns where the key hole is and when I mount my lock on my bike, it rattles with every single little bump I go over. I have tried turning it every possible way but it doesn't lock into place. I just put the lock in my backpack and problem solved.

Bought this for my commuter around college campus, it is almost perfect. IF YOU HAVE AN EXPENSIVE BIKE DO NOT LOCK YOUR BIKE OVERNIGHT. Even the biggest U Lock won't fully prevent a thief who wants your bike. Pros: The size is just right to fit around anything I want to lock my bike around. Anything smaller would be a hassle and wouldn't let me lock to some bike racks. The cable is useful for if you ever need to lock the front wheel too. But since my bike was cheap, I don't do that. You might want to overnight if you have nice wheels. Feels durable and strong enough to protect bike. Not too heavy. Has integrated cover to protect lock hole. Cons: The mounting thingy is easy to install and holds the lock pretty securely. Locks in with a click. But when taking the lock off, it takes a little more force. This will mean that the lock will hit the frame when you yank it off unless you are suuuuper careful. It takes the kind of effort where it gets a little annoying. I could put some lube on it though, but I hook it on my belt now. Also because the mounting bracket would get in the way when I am carrying my bike up stairs. I put my arm through the main triangle and lift the top tube. Comes with 2 keys. Keys are lightweight aluminum that scratch and the edges get deformed. Locking mechanism is a little finnicky. You have to make sure the key is all the way in before turning. Trust me there will be times when you have to play with it a little. For 90% of the time though, the process is pretty simple. I think it gets messed up when you stick the key in halfway and start turning and the lock gets out of alignment. But there is no satisfying click or resistance like on door handle locks. Overall: I am pretty sure these cons are on other kryptonite locks too though. In fact, the more expensive, read heavier, ones would not be so comfortable on my belt. Plus comes with spare key and also free replacement keys on their website. You really can't beat the price and is almost as good as getting a more expensive one. Besides if a crook has 1 minute to grind through this lock, he will probably have another minute to grind through a new york one.

I recently started riding my bike to work some days, and needed a lock to secure it during the day. I live and work in pretty nice, suburban areas, so I didn't need to spend a lot on a really heavy-duty lock, but wanted something that would keep my bike reasonably protected. For the price, this lock had fairly good reviews, so I gave it a shot. It gets the job done, but I don't know that I would recommend it to someone else in my situation. Pros: - Seems sturdy. Any lock can be defeated, but this one seems stronger than most, which would make your bike a less appealing target for theft - Includes a mount to secure it to your bike frame for carrying - Includes a cable to secure your front wheel/seat/other accessories - Shackle seems large enough to security two bikes at once (I haven't actually tried this). The cable could also be used to help secure a second bike Cons: - It's heavy. I guess any strong lock is going to be heavy, but it's just a lot heavier than I was expecting. It adds a pretty significant amount of mass to carry around - It's big. This could be a pro because it would probably let you lock up multiple bikes at once, but if you only need to use it on one bike, it seems much larger than necessary. This makes it less secure, because it gives a thief more room to maneuver to gain leverage, but it also makes the lock more unwieldy to carry around. At least on my bike there was only really one place that I could attach the mount due to the size of the shackle. - The included mount doesn't feel very solid. I tightened it down as much as I dared, but it still seems like the lock shakes around quite a bit while riding. I gave up on the mount pretty quickly, and instead just throw it in my backpack. As I said, this gets the job done, and I feel like my bike is secure during the day when I ride to work, but I would recommend something smaller and more manageable to carry.

I've used this U-lock on and off for about two years. Just a few weeks ago it failed as I could not get it to lock. After emailing Kryptonite's customer service about this issue, they were not hesitant send me a replacement free of charge! It was nice to not be hassled with a fee or patronized about the non-functioning lock. I've been using the new lock for a few days and it is working flawlessly. The below pros and cons are representative of each lock. Pros: +The design is well thought out and the mounting mechanism make it very convenient to transport with the bike. My favorite part of this product. +I feel that the steel shackle is adequate in protecting my bicycle. My philosophy is that if someone were to motivated enough to try to cut through a steel U-lock, they probably would be able to accomplish the same on any larger U-lock with a little added time and effort. +With a little work, I can lock two bikes to the same post or rack. +The included cable was always a plus, but paid off big time when I was without my U-lock and had to use it with a standard pin tumbler lock to secure my bike. Cons: -The lock is a tab bit sticky, and sometimes is a hassle to lock and unlock the bike (though this may be due to the disc locking mechanism). Conclusion: I'm confident that this lock would protect my bike, and would buy another Kryptonite lock without hesitation.

I received this Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 U-lock combo (with 4 ft cable) very quickly, within a couple days of ordering, which was great. It's just what I expected and functions well. Also, on the bar, that little piece of black that you see is actually a small collar that you can rotate to cover up the lock opening itself to protect it somewhat from dirt and the weather. I considered going up a model or two, i.e. the New Yorker lock. But I did my research, and after reading multiple reviews, tests, comparisons, agreed that for day-to-day use, this lock is plenty strong against 90% of would-be thieves, who are opportunists or addicts after something that is quick to liberate and easy to sell and won't be able to break this lock without serious effort and drawing a lot of attention. The other 10% are 'pros' who, with a grinder, can cut through pretty much any U-lock anyhow including the New Yorker models (and tend to do so after dark). With common sense & proper precautions (don't leave your bike locked on the street overnight; make sure you lock your wheels into the U-lock directly or with the cable), this should foil all daytime thieves. It IS a bit heavy - which is to be expected, and is the unavoidable trade-off for a very strong lock. My research also showed that the mounting clips for these types of locks generally fail to do their job - BECAUSE the lock is heavy. Knowing that, I also decided to invest in a small rear rack so that I can carry the lock with me in a bag there, rather than fussing around with an imperfect mounting clip system that will fail sooner or later, or having it weigh down my shoulders in a backpack. When reading others' reviews I noticed that some have complained that, after time, their locks rust or seize up inside, and they are left with the predicament of not being able to open an almost unbreakable lock. Well, two things here. First, as with ANY lock (especially those exposed to the elements), treat it with some graphite powder, which helps keep the mechanisms smooth, AND probably carry a little squeeze bottle of lock de-icer in sub-zero weather just in case it ices up. Second, if one day down the road the lock does simply fail and seize, then just rent a battery operated grinder and cut it off. People complain about too many small issues that common sense and some flexibility will take care of quickly. Overall, very happy with this purchase - for something like $40 I feel like I have got a good value and can safely lock up my bikes downtown now when I'm out and about. If it does develop problems after further use, I will return and update this review.

PRO: - Schloss mit einem Scheibenzylinder (besser gegen Lockpicking geschützt) - hochwertiger Stahl, Bügelschlösser sind allgemein sicherer als andere Schlosstypen - es ist ein Schlaufenkabel dabei, mit dem man z.B. das Vorderrad mitsichern kann - auch wenn man der Schutz hier natürlich nur mässig ist - die Halterung ist nichts herausragendes, aber ordentlich - das von einem anderen Rezensenten beobachtete Klappern kann ich nicht bestätigen: das Schloss hält und sitzt, da wackelt nichts. - sehr gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis CONTRA: - das Bügelschloss ist eher kurz, den Rahmen an einem Fahrradständer zu befestigen geht problemlos, das Hinterrad in dem Fall gleich mit anzuschliessen geht eher nicht. - der Scheibenzylinder geht manchmal recht hakelig: vor dem eigentlichen Zylinder ist noch eine frei drehbare Scheibe, wenn man den Schlüssel hineinstecken möchte muss die Scheibe in einer Flucht mit der Öffnung im Zylinder sein. Wenn das nicht der Fall ist, dann muss man ein wenig Fummeln. Daran habe ich mich jedoch mittlerweile gewöhnt und das Auf-und-Zu-schliessen geht jetzt problemlos und schnell. - das Fahrrad mit diesem Schloss inklusive beigefügtem Kabel anzuschliessen benötigt schon ein wenig Zeit - deutlich mehr als z.B. mit einem einfachen Kabelschloss - allerdings bietet letzteres auch nicht ansatzweise den Schutz wie dieses Schloss. FAZIT: Aufgrund des extrem guten Preis-/Leistungsverhältnisses würde ich dieses Schloss jederzeit wieder kaufen - man bekommt hier ein Schloss der eher höheren Schutzklasse für ca. 35 Euro, das ist kaum schlagbar. Achtung bei der Länge des Schlosses: wenn man das Hinterrad mit dem Bügelschloss mit abschliessen möchte, muss man ein größeres Schloss wählen. Das Kabel für das Vorderrad sehe ich eher als optional an, bei den üblichen Schnellschraubverschlüssen der Vorderräder heutzutage macht es allerdings durchaus Sinn es mit zu benutzen. Ich habe mir das Schloss für mein Bahnhofsfahrrad (Großstadt) zugelegt und ich denke hierfür ist es genau richtig. Teurere Schlösser hätten bei einem Fahrrad mit Wert <100 Euro einfach keinen wirtschaftlichen Sinn gemacht, andere Schlösser in der gleichen (mittel bis günstigen) Preisklasse sind bei meinem Anwendungszweck jedoch kaum mehr als eine Dekoration für Fahrraddiebe. ;)

Je l'utilise pour sécuriser mon vtt dans la cour d'une amie, donc dans un endroit a priori peu risqué. Le produit est lourd et encombrant mais inspire confiance. Aucun problème de fermeture ou ouverture comme j'ai pu le lire sur différents avis : il suffit de bien enfoncer la clé à fond. Je le transporte dans mon sac à dos car la fixation fournie ne m'inspire pas confiance et, critère plus personnel, je trouve que ce n'est pas très esthétique (si c'est pour usage purement utilitaire type velotaf, ce n'est pas un critère bien important, je vous l'accorde). N'étant pas habitué à utiliser les antivols U, il faut parfois batailler un peu pour trouver le meilleur positionnement de l'antivol et du vélo pour pouvoir sécuriser à la fois la roue arrière, le cadre et la roue avant mais jusqu'à maintenant j'y suis toujours arrivé. Je pense que c'est un produit sérieux à un budget maîtrisé, qui aura un rôle très dissuasif et protègera votre vélo contre les voleurs non équipés d'outillage lourd. Kryptonite évalue la sécurité de cet antivol à 6/10. Sold secure le classe "silver" ce qui est tout à fait respectable. Néanmoins, pour les stationnements de longue durée dans des endroits à risque ou pour des vélos de grande valeur, je conseillerais de le doubler ou de partir sur quelque chose de plus imposant encore, histoire de ralentir au maximum les potentiels voleurs qui, s'ils sont dotés d'équipements adaptés, arriveront malheureusement toujours à leur fin.

Primero de todo busque en la web del fabricante las recomendaciones que hacían para este antirrobo ya que es un 6 sobre 10 en seguridad. Para mi propósito, ir a trabajar en bici, cumple de sobras su función ya que es una zona concurrida y la bici esta solo durante la jornada laboral. PROS: 1) La base del antirrobo se puede "anclar" en cualquier parte del cuadro de la bici según convenga el modelo de la bici 2) Ofrece una muy buena seguridad durante el día y en zonas concurridas. 3) Fácil y relativamente rápido de poner/quitar con cable incluido 4) Si bien la seguridad es 6/10 la identificación bien visible de la marca le da un plus de seguridad (primero intentarán un antirrobo de "marca blanca" que un Kryptolock) CONS: 1) Llevar el cable resulta (casi) imposible si no lo lo metes en una bolsa. Si intentas llevarlo "enrollado" a la bici, suele moverse y resultar incomodo. 2) El pack (antirrobo+cable) resulta un poco pesado, comienza a notarse cuando hay que hacer "subidas" por la ciudad. Lo considero una buena compra, que cubre todas mis necesidades. Lo utilizo para ir en bici al trabajo, el cable me obliga a llevar una bolsa a la espalda, pero la llevo igualmente para el portatil :)

Ho deciso di comprare questo lucchetto perché, per due anni, mi sono trovato a vivere nella Bellissima città di Bolonga. Per chi trascorre un certo periodo di tempo nelle città sa che un buon lucchetto è un invetimento per il futuro della sua bici, specie se ha un alto valore ( economico, affettivo o magri entrmbi) Quando tornavo a casa lasciavo la bici alla stazione di Bologna mazzini, per comodità purtroppo la sera non è molto controllata e di conseguenza questi simpatici signori possono fare il loro comodo. Al mio ritorno chiaramente ero arrabbiato per l'accaduto ma al contempo sollevato che il lucchetto avesse fatto il suo dovere. La nota negativa però era data dal fatto che non fosse più utilizzabile a causa dei colpi ricevuti, ed è qui che entra in gioco Amazon il quale ha provveduto a sostiturie il lucchetto con uno nuovo con mio grande piacere. Chiduo la recensione con due punti: 1) Ovviamnente mi sento di consigliarlo. Facile il montaggio, robusto, affidabile e la corda molto utile se si lascia in posti/zone calde 2) Il primo lucchetto che mi era arrivato aveva un leggero difetto ( ancor prima che si rompesse) la chiave non rimaneva ferma nella serratura ma si sfilava con un'estrema facilità e di conseguenza mi cadeva spesso a terra, abbastanza noiso alla lunga.....ma con il nuovo questo non succede, sia nelle operazioni di chiusura che di aperuta la chiave rimane ferma all'interno della serratura.
