but still an excellent bird feeder
Not entirely squirrel-proof, but still an excellent bird feeder. It took the local squirrels about 3 days to figure out they could squeeze and contort themselves through the cage. No worries, it still allows the smaller birds plenty of opportunity to gobble up what they wish without being harassed by larger birds. I'm very happy with this bird (and limber squirrel) feeder.

It does keep the squirrels out.
I love this bird feeder, I only wish the bigger birds could utilize it. As long as I am making a wish list, I wish it held more! Fabulous concept.

Excellent squirrel proof feeder.
I’ve used this feeder for years. Keeps out the bully birds like grackles and jays, and squirrels can’t get in it.

The good and the bad
I have two of these globe feeders, one that I have had for over a decade. If I needed another one, I would buy the same thing if it was available. So why did I give this only one star? Essentially so that anyone considering buying or currently owning one of these feeders will read my review. Sometime between when I bought the first unit and 2017 when I bought the second unit, the manufacturer made a change. They added a decorative band around the center circumference of the unit. Recently I had the horrifying experience of finding a dead finch in the feeder that had caught her toe in the space between the decorative band and the wire frame. After burying the poor thing, I immediately took a screwdriver and popped the decorative band off of the feeder and discarded it. It serves no useful purpose, so for anyone who has one of these feeders, or is considering purchasing one, I suggest you do the same thing and remove the decorative band. Otherwise, the unit is just the same as the one I've had for over a decade which has held up extremely well.Like I said, if I needed another one I would purchase the same thing - only I would remove the decorative band. The manufacturer has told me "it hasn’t been in production for a number of years and there are currently no plans to re-introduce it to market", so I assume the problem is just limited to units that are still in stock at retailers.

Poorly designed hanging mechanism.
I've had this bird feeder for 6 months; first the stainless steel wire hinges sprung open at the base and now have to be wired in place, squirrels could easily lift up and access the seeds through the top (which is why I added the wood block,) larger animals like racoons would lift the feeder off it's hanger causing it to fall to the ground (again, which is why I added the wood block,) and it seems they can reach in and remove seeds through the openings, none of which is good. But the two times a bear took it down, it survived (although all the seeds were lost.)

The item is beautiful and the birds love it
The item is beautiful and the birds love it! However, the squirrels are able to get the lid off the feeder, get into it and eat the bird food. I have used a bungee cord(a 1/2 inch elastic one) and the squirrels bit through that and entered the feeder. I love the feeder but it is not baffling to the squirrels in my neighborhood.

good quality solid weather proof
smart squirrels required a coat hanger fix to prevent the top being lifted off and contents pillaged. small birds prefer less competition this feeder allowed
