Works amazing!!!! Our cat (pictured) is insanely strong and can unlock/lock deadbolts (and open doors obvs) and this thing has been working great! Super easy install and it helps keep us safe by knowing we wont be locked out again lol

for once, my 3 year olds tantrums are like music to my ears ;)
My 2 year old opens the door for EVERYONE- sometimes he runs outside for the fun of it! Well, we have double doors and so normal baby proofing locks would not work. This was literally the only thing I could find in all of my researching! My husband was happy that this device was easy to install, and because you use the existing screws of the deadbolt, there is no damage to your door, and once your tot gets old enough to not run outside whillie neelie, you can easily just remove the mount lock. That my family thinks about it: My husband says it is a pain. He doesn't like having to unlock a lock, but is super thankful that our son isn't running in the street. My 6 year old dislikes it because she cant answer the door anymore- something that I never approved of in the first place. Thankfully we haven't had any dangerous solicitors yet! My 6 year old understands how it works, but it is physically too hard for her to open. My 3 year old....well he HATES it. He throws a crying fit every time he tries to open it- which, frankly, makes me love this thing even more ;) I think of it like hes saying "Oh mommy, thank you for loving me so much to want to protect me from strangers and cars so I may live to be an adult!" although, he is usually screaming "I hate this thing its stupid!!!" I adore this lock! I admit, it is a tricky pain sometimes and took a while for me to even open it. you almost need 2 hands and a good amount of arm strength to do it. I know my kids are upset they cant open the door, and my husband thinks it is one of those love hate relationships; however, my kids safety is priority number 1 to me. Of course, you do need to take into consideration if there were an emergency in the house- the kids cant escape. I try to explain to my kids that in an extreme emergency like fire, it is ok and they have my permission to break a window, so make sure to do that if. man, I love this thing! Update: I received this product in March, and now it's almost October. The great news is that this thing is still a pain to open, so my kids don't run into the street. However, I will note that the plastic parts are becoming more difficult to turn and open, and sometimes they will stick and it can be frustrating to open the door. The plastic is also shaving off from rubbing against itself, which I suspect is why the knob becomes more difficult to turn. I probably open the door between 6-12 times a day? My 6 year old whom was once semi-easily able to open the door now can not because it has become too difficult from the parts being hard to turn- which is fine, but if there were an emergency and she had to get out of the house would be an issue, but my hubby or I am home all the time, so it wouldn't be an issue for us, but possibly for someone else wanting to purchase this lock? To be frank, I purchased this product expecting for it not to last a super long time- I mean, the parts are plastic and eventually my tot has to learn not to open the door and run in the street, right? The deadbolt lock has still met and exceeded my expectations, I just expect to get a new one for my next child in a few years. If you are say, a nursing home or in care of an elderly, you should know you may have to invest in a new deadbolt cover annually or bi-annually. honestly, it is the only option I could find for double doors. I love that this deadbolt cover was super easy to install and has done zero damage to my door or the handle. I still love it, am pleased with my purchase, and recommend it :)

Lasted 2 years
It works great. Really confuses the kids and a majority of adults. Ours held up to 2 years of regular daily use. For the price I'd say it works great. The cost is great. It was easy to install. Once it started to break it made it hard to unlock so, I feel that is the direction I'd rather have it fail. I'm buying another one.

It works really well
My son tries to open the front door a lot but ever since we added this to the door he hasn’t been able to open it. My husband was able to install it very easily and it works just like the advertisement says.

Easy install, Too easy for kids to figure out.
Super easy to install! Got it because my 3yo keeps trying to elope and we are renting currently and didnt want to drill into the door/doorframe. Because the simplicity of the lock? She figured out the mechanics of how it opens within 30secs. The only thing preventing her from doing so is she is too short/hands too small to push both buttons and turn at the same time. If she grabs a chair? She is smart enough to unlock it with enough time to figure it out. My 6yo walked up and with one hand unlocked it first try. Which is both a blessing and a curse. Emergency? Yay, she can get out! If she is a partner in crime and aiding and abetting escaping sister? Absolutely pointless. I hate how expensive these were and how easy it is to unlock for older kiddos. Would not recommend for parents trying to keep their autistic kiddos from eloping! Will update if my 3yo figures it out. May just need to to drill into door frame for a lock higher up on the door.

Great!
By far the best safety cover for our front door lock. I bought the first one Feb 2024. Yes, it did just break so I just now purchased a second one. Although it broke, the two years I used it several times a day everyday, it was well worth the $15 I spent on it. My daughter is almost 4 and she still can’t open it on her own. What I also like about this safety cover is that my husband can still unlock it from the outside and get in on his own when he comes home from work.

Must be hit or miss, but was a complete miss for me
I have purchased and used many other Safety 1st products and have been very satisfied, so I assumed this would fit my needs for my new problem of securing my deadbolt from my child. However, it failed to meet the mark in every regard. First, the clear plastic cover was scraped up upon receipt. Unless someone returned this and very cleverly taped the box shut, this was a manufacturing defect. Nevertheless, I followed the instructions for installation, but encountered multiple issues. The instructions say to install the backplate a certain way and then add the front piece with the logo at the bottom. However, this orientation failed to allow the product to turn my lock successfully. The instructions then say that if it's not working (like in my case), unscrew everything, fiddle around with the the mounting plate, and try again. I found this instruction to be quite vague, as well as indicative of poor design. I had to unscrew and re-screw everything multiple times before it could work at all, and the trial-and-error nature of the installation felt unnecessarily frustrating for a product marketed as “simple 3-step install” right on the front of the packaging. So, I finally thought I had this installed and went to testing it to ensure that it would child-proof my lock while allowing adults to use it freely. However, I found that it could not “grab” my turn piece consistently, leading to the product “locking up” and getting stuck. I’d estimate that it worked about 25% of the time. In a real scenario, this makes it likely that I would not be able to open my door, which is unacceptable. Perhaps other turn pieces of varying sizes work better, but mine is not unique and I expect that it should work. I also encountered the spring mechanism getting stuck multiple times, indicating to me yet another manufacturing or overall product defect. Knowing that this product was not going to work for me, I went to remove it. The product touts that it “leaves your door with no marring after removal.” However, that is not the case. While it does not screw into your door or use an adhesive, the back metal mounting plate did in fact leave marks on my door. The metal plate is quite rough, so expect it to scratch your paint, especially if you need to adjust it for any reason during installation. I found that this product failed on all accounts, but most importantly, it just did not do the one thing it was supposed to do, which was to allow my deadbolt turn piece to still function after installation.

My wife couldn't figure out how to work it - it's that good.
I have a 3 year old daughter and I really should have gotten this product when she first learned to walk. It became a real problem with her just walking straight out the door, chasing after mommy or daddy as they drive out of the garage and zoom off. Very, very real safety concern - especially since my wife and I are deaf and cannot hear the doors open and close. Installation was a real breeze - it does not lie when it says no drilling or any crazy handyman-skill-level stuff is required. It was as simple as merely loosening the two screws that anchor the deadbolt to the door, sliding in a metal backplate, tightening the screws, and then screwing the plastic thingamajig over the metal back plate to secure the deadbolt against grubby little toddler hands. Even my wife had a uhh *cough* little trouble *cough* figuring out how to work it. I LOL hard when my daughter can't figure it out. I'll give her a good, solid 10 years before she can figure it out! Product is well-made, very easy to use, and I highly, highly recommend it over all the other solutions out there. Oh, a pro tip - don't overtighten the plastic housing over the back plate because that actually can make the use of the deadbolt mechanism a bit sticky and harder to manipulate. I have noticed over time as we use it more, a) we become smarter humans are knowing exactly how it works and what methods are best in operating it and b) it seems to loosen itself over time and be easier to turn and engage and all that stuff.

Great safety product!
Even adults have a hard time unlocking the door so it’s great. I got it when my youngster was 2 years old and just bought a new one cause i don’t trust him to this day even at 4 years old. Very satisfied!

Parfait!
Génial! Mon fils n’arrêtait pas de s’échapper et maintenant tout est bon. Résistant et difficile à manipuler donc pas accessible pour les enfants! De plus, ne laisse aucune traces sur la porte! +++

Works as intended.
Works as intended at keeping the kids from opening/unlocking the bolt of the front door. A little pricey for what it is. A little fiddly to install. You have to loosen the bolt plate to slide another plate behind it. The assembly then gets screwed onto that new plate. Also, within weeks some of the plastic teeth on the inside of the mechanism broke off. Now, after 2 years I had to buy another one because the whole assembly stopped working. The springs stopped working and some of the levers are getting stuck which can block you from unlocking/opening the door with the key from the outside as the levers can impede the turning of the bolt if they do not get pushed back by the springs properly. I haven't seen an alternative, so I am using this.
