Freedom from Addiction: The Chopra Center Method for Overcoming Destructive Habits

Excellent alternate option
Freedom from Addiction is an excellent book and makes a good alternative, or supplement, to other addiction programs. The concepts aren't new and anyone who's read Chopra before will be familiar with many of the thoughts and philosophies. As a psych grad student I liked it because it offered a difference from the (my own personal opinion) more negatively focused AA. Freedom from Addiction may make a good addition to SMART Recovery or another program for those who aren't in a position, whatever the reason, to explore in-patient treatment or are looking to make healthier and smarter behavioral changes ontheir own.

Great read!
I recently started to read other books by Chopra and remain in awe of his wisdom. Freedom from Addiction is no different. I purchased it to help a dear friend understand their disease and be a better support buddy. This has given me a lot of insight into what they are going through and a lot of ideas on how to help. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with addiction or knows anyone they wish to support.

Good for all.
An easy read with simple key messages. Good for anyone that wishes to better themselves without attending group sessions. My husband and I have both read this and enjoyed it.

Chopra is brilliant!
Having been in and out of recovery programs since 2007, Chopra's deeply insightful views of the traditional twelve steps have given me a fresh and life-altering approach to living a healthy lifestyle...physically, emotionally, and spiritual. A must-read for anyone who is dealing with addiction, either personally or with a loved one.

Freedom from Addiction
I found it interesting but not particularly helpful for me personally. Our church is using it for a recovery program and most of the participants swear by it. This is a mixed recovery program for people with various addictions or bad habits. I found Moderation Management more geared to where I am at.

Comforting
If you need reassurance and comforting - well go ahead and have a read. There are comparisons to the 12 step programmes for AA, but nothing really ground breaking.

Not what I was looking for
The book provided no particular insights into addiction, just advocated meditation and detox programmes. I could have got this anywhere. As an ex-addict, I am interested in gaining more insight into what led me into addiction in the first place, and how to deal with the aftermath in recovery. The authorship, to me, does not suggest people with long and personal experience in helping people manage and overcome addiction. It is more of a general, blanket approach. Normally I only read such books by people with personal experience of what they are writing about, but unfortunately these are somewhat thin on the ground. This book will be donated to the charity shop.

Love that there's alternative literature on addiction recovery
I love everything Deepak Chopra writes and this is no different. It's very refreshing as a recovering addict to find material which deviates from what has become more mainstream (eg 12 step programmes or CBT). This resonated with me on a deeper level and would recommend it to addicts of any kind or to people working with/or in relation with addicts.

Freedom from Addiction
A compassionate and useful tool for dealing with any form of addiction or dependency issues. Stuff in here to give thought to and exercises to complete to get you started.

Least preferred addictions book
I've read many books on addiction for the purposes of my own recovery and then my work. This is the one I found least helpful and wouldn't waste money on. I've kept all my other addiction books to use for reference, except for this one.

A good read for anyone wanting to break free from an undesirable habit.
I enjoyed reading this book very much, it helped put some things into perspective and has opened my eyes to that the thoughts, feelings and reasons for my spiraling downwards that I have been experiencing, are obviously very common. Though I have used a number of techniques in addition to help curtail my bad habits along with this book,I very well may read it again, just to remember some of those "big words", but I feel awake for the first time in 10 years!Cheers!I mean Thanks....
