I honestly wish it was a game instead of a movie
Turn off you brain and enjoy the ride. Watch Leon equipped with the thickest plot armor as he survives yet another hordes of biological horror and Ada being mysterious and saving Leon.

Huge Improvement over Degeneration
Resident Evil: Degeneration and Damnation both average 4 stars on Amazon and Degeneration is cheaper so you might as well get Degeneration, correct? Wrong. Regardless of the Amazon ratings Damnation is a significant improvement over Capcom's previous effort and one of the best movie translations of a video game ever. It's certainly better than the live action movies which have almost nothing to do with the video games they claim to be based off ofDamnation feels more like the natural successor to RE 4 than Degeneration with the viral infection being Plagas rather than the G/T-Virus. Leon Kennedy finds himself embroiled in an uprising in an eastern European country. In a desperate move the insurgents have resorted to using BOW's in their fight having managed to gain technology that allows them to control the usually uncontrollable horrors. After nearly being killed by a Licker, Leon is captured by a trio of insurgents who believe him to be a CIA agent. At the same time the Plagas is starting to spread and things are quickly going to Hell. The CGI is much better in Damnation, in particular the facial modeling. Degeneration had this weird plastic look to the faces but here they are much more expressive. Leon still has a perpetual glare, unlike in the video games, but at least he's shown to be capable of other expressions. The backgrounds are gorgeous bordering on photorealistic. The CGI still lags behind the top American studios particularly in character movement. There is a fight between Ada Wong and one of the main antagonists that is very stiff and robotic. American studios have done an amazing job of making movements feel natural and organic and there is definitely room for improvement here but for a movie that didn't even get a theatrical release in the U.S. this is very good stuff and a huge improvement over Degeneration. One of my big issues with Degeneration was the lack of variety in BOW's (bio-organic weapons). I counted two including zombies and the inevitable G-Virus final boss. Damnation ups the count with a whopping three BOW types including the Licker, Plagas zombies and Tyrant. Seriously Capcom, there are dozens and dozens of BOW's and all you include are three? Another thing is that although the tyrants look visually stunning they don't really look like Tyrants or even organisms from Resident Evil. They look more like giant blue aliens. Another problem I have is with Leon Kennedy's bizarre lack of inner monologue. At one point he comes across a CIA contact named Scarecrow who's been beaten near death. Initially Scarecrow can only utter a gurgle prompting Leon to turn his head and mutter, `I guess scarecrows aren't known for their rousing conversation'. Seriously? You say that to a man near death who's seconds away from being ripped to shreds? In another instance Leon is flung by a Tyrant 30 feet into a marble pillar (a move that should have killed or permanently incapacitated Leon). Leon drags himself up saying, `You really shouldn't have done that' Leon had nothing to back up his boast and looks silly with his empty hubris. These goofy lines are all though the movie and I'm not sure if this is an accurate translation or just some weak dubbing.Lastly the ending here is pretty cheap but in the end Damnation has better characterization, a better storyline and better CGI than Degeneration. Let me also add that many of the scene backgrounds look like they were ripped right from the games so it really feels like the movie is in the same universe as the games. I have seen so many game translations that felt like the creators wanted to make anything other than a video game movie. I'm not sure why it's so hard to set a movie in the same universe as the game but Capcom pulls it off. Hopefully this is just the next installment in a long line of movies that continue to improve.

Best Resident Evil movie yet.
I'll preface this by saying that I'm not a fan of Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil movies. The best thing I can say about them is that they can be pretty looking pieces of schlock, but for me, to try to enjoy them on any other level is nearly impossible, as they take themselves way too seriously. You can't do that when everything happening in your movies is completely over the top and ridiculous.Resident Evil Damnation, for the most part, doesn't have the problems that plague Anderson's movies. The plot in Damnation makes sense, with clear character motivations (other than Ada, who is meant to be ambiguous, as usual), good pacing, and a suitable amount of action, particularly towards the excellent climax. The monsters are well done, too, with the Lickers in particular being well represented. They are suitably slimy, scary and ferocious as ever. The CG also seems to be a step up from the previous CG Resident Evil movie, Degeneration. Leon's character model in Damnation, in particular, is a clear improvement from the always scowling Leon from Degeneration. As a side note, I've always regarded Leon as being the most relatable character in the franchise alongside Claire Redfield. Leon's constant streak of bad luck in both the games and movies, and his ceaseless optimism and ability to maintain a sense of humor despite this, makes you want to root for him. To compare, Alice from the live action Resident Evil movies is a completely soulless cipher, a leather-clad Barbie doll designed to shoot the bad guys. This is not to say that Leon is an amazing character or anything, but he's the best we've got, in my opinion. I wouldn't mind if they rebooted the live action movies with him as the central protagonist of the series. So, what are Damnation's shortcomings? I could have probably done without JD. Seems like you can't have a horror story without a wacky comic relief character anymore. It's too bad, because there's a fairly competent, dramatic story going on here, and JD drags it down a bit. If JD were more, I dunno, SUBTLE, I think I would have liked him more. He sort of redeems himself as a character during his final scenes, though, I will give him that. It goes to show you how smart this movie is that it can mine a goofy comic relief character for a bit of good drama. Some of the dialogue in this movie was also a bit ham-fisted. One scene in particular sees Leon surviving a Licker's talons thanks to a flask that he keeps hidden away in his vest. After the Licker is disposed of, Leon APOLOGIZES TO HIS FLASK. I'm not kidding. He actually looks mournfully at his flask and apologizes for not being able to save it from the Licker's talons. I know this was supposed to be a shot at humor, but I couldn't help but feel that this is the kind of cheesy stuff that I'd see in one of the live action movies. Also, Leon's monologue to Buddy at the end sounds awkward and forced. There are other examples, but these were the ones that stuck out in my mind while writing this.My only other real criticism is the weak antagonist. She's not terrible by any means, just under-developed. It almost feels like they ran out of money while making this thing and had to cut some of her scenes. It's too bad, I enjoyed her, especially her fight with Ada. Good choreography work there. So, to end, I really liked Damnation. The flaws that haunt Resident Evil stories don't seem to be going away any time soon, but in this case, the good far outweighs the bad. Hopefully we can get another one of these CG movies in the next few years. They're pretty decent, this one being better than the last.

Damnation Kicks Ass.
If you love the Resident Evil Games you'll probably like this Animated Film based on them.If you liked Resident Evil: Degeneration, the film's predecessor then you'll the Sequel even more as its more action packed. If you love Leon but hated how he was in Degeneration then you'll love him here as his character feels more human and serious and less like a emotionless robot. The Action is quick and fun. There's more Monsters from the Resident Evil games included here, Lickers, Las Plagas and Tyrants.Oh, and Ada makes an appearance and has a pretty awesome hand to hand fight sequence. The Story is a slight improvement over Degeneration's and it appears as if the film itself was inspired by deleted levels and story plots from the original Resident Evil 5 Game. Its fun, quick, maybe boring in the beginning but once it hits the second half there's plenty to enjoy. In Conclusion, a very decent animated Sequel to a less impression first film that has ties to the Games and puts to shame the live action films. Resident Evil Damnation is a blast with lots of new ideas and nostalgia thrown into it. P.S, make sure to stay during the Credits.
