BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Chain Saw Cordless Chainsaw, 10-Inch Battery Chainsaw, Tool Only, for Wood Cutting and Tree Pruning, Includes Guide Bar Scabbard (LCS1020B)

First off let me say that I am in no way, shape or form a professional. I just managed to purchase a home with land that had been neglected for decades at a time, so I am left having to bring it back to its former glory. I currently own a 12” Husqvarna saw, and in the past had an older Stihl 021. This saw seems to cut nearly as well as my Husky, and with much less noise, and no thrown out backs due to pulling on a starter cord. I personally did a few modifications to the saw to make it perform slightly better. First was cutting some plastic to allow it to work with my Porter Cable 20v batteries, however you only have to modify it to accept the 4.0 packs, the 2.0, 1.5 and 1.2 amp hour packs will all fit without modifying the saw. Next I cut off some of the plastic at the bottom of the chain guard, this area had a “lip” that stuck out towards the body of the saw by approximately half an inch. My guess is that this portion of plastic was added for safety, but all it ends of doing is getting the wood chips stuck inside the chain cover. After removing it the chips essentially never get stuck. Lastly, and this requires taking the entire saw apart, was to drill out the nipple that the oil tank hose attaches to on the body of the saw. I removed the hose and drilled the plastic nipple out with a 1/16” drill bit, you might be able to enlarge it even more however even at 1/16” there wasn’t much plastic left. After doing this the saw now oils like it should! A few primes is usually just right, and I now find that five or more pumps is often way too much oil. Definitely a recommended mod if you are confident in taking out some screws, and using a drill. You could in theory also buy the oil pump out of the Black and Decker LCs1240 chainsaw, which is essentially this saw with 40V, and auto oiling. Our saw even has a spot for it, they just decided to skip out on installing it. I thought about doing it myself but have been unable to find a oil pump online. All in all, the saw does what I need it to. It’s convenient for doing work on ladders, or in trees as the tool is fairly light and compact. It has a decent amount of power, however it would be nice if the chain had a slightly faster speed, would eliminate some of the “skipping” some have complained about. The saw has a decent run time with my 4.0 Amp Hour battery packs, and is all around just a great tool, especially considering the cost.

DeWalts, Milwaukees and Makitas must be nice, but as a new homeowner in sudden need of a whole arsenal of tools, they're out of my price range. Black and Decker is the low-budget alternative, and like all of the other B&D tools I've laid my hands on so far, they've outperformed what I expected of them. Tropical Storm Isaias took down a pair of trees, one of which measured about 12 inches wide at the trunk, and this saw dutifully hacked them apart. It wasn't lighting fast, it wasn't a glamorous montage, but over the course of a couple of hours and a few battery changes, the trees were steadily reduced to logs and branches. It does really suck the batteries down, but that's a worthwhile tradeoff to never deal with 2-stroke oil or gummed up carbs - or expensive service calls from an arsonist. With enough determination, it could probably slowly chew through thicker trees, but I felt that the thickest cuts on the trees I handled were the comfortable limit. The saw isn't super heavy duty, but it can handle abuse short of intentionally destroying it. The only flaw I can point to, is that it leaks bar oil slowly when it's not being used - no problem, it's so lightweight and easy to handle, I can just turn it upside down and pour the oil back into the jug. In just two trees, its already paid for its self and then some, and I see no reason why it won't last for many years - and many trees - to come.

This is my first cordless electric chainsaw. I always thought electric saws were a joke and never considered buying one until recently. We were brushing out an old ATV trail and didn’t want to attract attention from the new, nearby homes by using a noisy chainsaw. We used hand tools and I thought how nice it would be to have an electric chainsaw for the larger alders. I tested it out today and was surprised by how long the 2.0 ah battery lasted. It was really nice not to deal with the exhaust and noise. The bugs also seemed to be a lot less noticeable likely due to the lack of exhaust. The chain doesn’t spin very fast so it cuts noticeably slower than a gas saw. It also bounced and chattered far more than a gas saw. That was really annoying. The saw wasn’t as light as I was expecting but it’s not particularly heavy either. It’s construction leaves me in doubt as to how long it’ll last. My B&D weed wacker is all plastic and it’s held up fine for the past 4 years so hopefully this saw will too. But a guy will need to be more careful with this saw than a gas model just because the flex in the bar is noticeable. In testing it out today I found myself cutting way more than I planned just because it was so easy. There were a number of branches I’ve been meaning to cut for years but never wanted to fire up my gas saw just for a few random things. This electric saw made it too easy. Grab the saw, gloves and safety glasses and away you go. The bar oil seems like it’ll last through several batteries as long as you are not cutting things horizontally as the oil leaks out of the vent hole in the cap. That was really annoying and a poor design. I’m glad I bought this saw, it’ll be perfect to carry on my four wheeler for small jobs or for some discreet ninja cutting of fatbike trails. Not having to pack gas and oil is really appealing. This saw isn’t going to replace a gas saw (unless you rarely cut anything) but is a nice compliment to it. I can see throwing it into a car if you were heading out wanting to have a small fire somewhere. It wouldn’t stink up the vehicle with gas fumes. In my photos I showed part of what I cut on one battery. I was surprised how long the battery lasted. I had to tighten the chain once, the adjustment system wasn’t as easy to use as I was expecting but not needed to bring a separate tool was nice. Be forewarned, this saw likes to pack up that area with debris far more than any gas saw I’ve used. You’ll need to pull stuff out from time to time. Yeah, overall it’s a nice, handy little saw that was reasonably priced and works quite well for what it is.

Works great. If you have used chainsaws before, it has the power of about a small gas chainsaw. Like a pruning saw. You can't clear a building lot with it, but for branches around your home that fall in a storm, this will cut it up just like a full size chainsaw. I bought it because a 20' pine tree in my yard broke in half. It was wider than me. Saw would only reach halfway through. Had to cut one side, then again on the other side. But it cut it all up. I have no idea what the purpose of the chain oiler is. On gas saws you push the pump and it squirts oil onto the chain. On this saw it doesn't squirt onto the saw, but it does leak out of the cap. Some kind of hand grip oiler I guess. Don't fill the oiler, it will just make a mess all over the saw and you. Add the oil to the saw yourself. If you haven't used battery powered Black and Decker tools before, they make differt size batteries. The tools that use the least amount of battery power get the small, inexpensive battery and the battey hogs get the big heavy , expensive batteries. For some strange reason, this saw gets the baby battery. Which is fine if you only have one twig a day you want to cut in half . If you intend to cut trees or firewood, buy the biggest battery.

I love this little chainsaw! Its not super expensive, the batteries last decent for this unit. Great controls, design, bar chain oil functions, chain tightening control, has bar sheath, cuts great. The build quality is great. Have another one of these I used for couple years at home. Got another one for cutting wood in other locations. Its only a 10 inch bar, but works great for smaller pieces of wood. I would only buy Black and Decker batteries for it though. The knockoff batteries suck!

I have a small yard with a giant oak. This little beast helps me keep up with clearing out the volunteer trees that inevitably pop up. Small and lightweight, and easy to handle for the small jobs that come along.

Frequency and Longevity I own several properties and use this to trim branches annually. I’ve used it about 20 times a year. Pros Quality – It may not feel as durable as some other chainsaws, but Black and Decker is my go‑to line for battery‑powered tools. I have about 10 of them and have only ever had to replace the weed whacker. It starts right up once you pull the trigger. It feels as safe as other chain saws I have used int he past. Size – It’s small but effective, and easy to load into your vehicle and go. Battery Life – I use an extended battery and have never had to switch it out during a job. Power – Not as strong as an electric chainsaw, but it gets the job done. Cut Quality – Great. I haven’t had any problems. The cut is sharp and comparable to other chainsaws. Cons None Value for the Money You just can’t go wrong with Black and Decker here. All I can say is: The PRICE is NICE.

I’ve bought four over the last six years. Two were fantastic, two were terrible. Last year’s was the worst yet, stopped constantly for no reason. The one before that was perfect but eventually wore out.

Great 10" Saw, works great for medium to small trees. Prefect for around the yard work.the chain can bounce out a bit if you are not putting enough tention while cutting, or not holding it with a proper grip. It is definitely worth the price Pros: Easy to use , the machine is light weight, and the chain is easy to adjust. Cons: Will require the 5.0amp batter park for any use longer than 10 minutes the 1.5Amp batteries die quickly under load The oil leaks out of the pump if you put it in any weird positions, like upside down.

Been looking for an electric chainsaw to cut down small trees on trails on my property. Previously I bought a one of the low cost mini cordless chainsaw that are on Amazon the price was cheap but the batteries did not last that long and it was impossible to buy new or replacement batteries. The Black & Decker 20V Max Cordless Chainsaw, worked great and used the same batteries that my Black & Decker Alligator Lopper uses.. I was able also to buy extra high compacity batteries. The problem that I made was to save money I bought one of the used chainsaws that where offered on the sidebar for $96.93. To start the chainsaw worked fine but eventually it became weaker and did not have the power. One day I went out to the garage to get my equipment and put a new fully charged battery on it and the engine smoked. The upside is that Amazon.ca put me in contact with Black & Decker and being that it was only a month old they will be replacing it under warranty. I am now patiently waiting and hope the replacement arrives in time so I can do some clean up before the snow falls. October 25th, I received a replacement from Black & Decker and it included battery and charger. Yesterday I tried out the new BLACK+DECKER 20V Max Cordless Chainsaw to cut down a spruce tree by the road with an 8" trunk and it cut through it like butter. Used the Max Cordless Chainsaw to delimb the branches from the tree, Will keep you informed

At first blush I was skeptical. I have spent a small fortune on b&d products and batteŕies so I'm well set up. Went all in and bought 8, 20v products and a fast charger. Sitting on 6 charged batteries at any given time. The lilac growth had grown to a 30 foot circle, all grown in with little thin suckers and shoots of bigger wood with several 4 to 6 inch wood stems. One stump to the ground was 8 inches of dense wood. Three tools used, a rake, a b&d 20v hedger and b&d 20v chainsaw. Batteries used a 2.5ah at 75% on hedger and two, 4ah aftermarket. Got an hour out of the 2.5ah then swapped it to 4ah. Worked 8 hours to complete the job, pictures above before, and final cut. Both batteries still juiced on completion. When you first squeeze the trigger you think "Not gonna cut it" but it does, quietly and at a good pace. Never binds, it just keeps on chewing wood. I was listening to music from my b&d Bluetooth speaker, I'm a chainsaw guy, that's a first. You won't buck 5 cords of 8 inch, but around the yard for taming the grounds it's ideal. Great system off grid with a small solar system. I can see building a cabin remotely with continuous work every day with no problem. I put these two tools through their paces and found them up to task within their abilities. I recommend.
