CRKT M21-14DSFG Folding Knife with Liner Lock, Desert Tan, M21-14DSFG

I think this is a great knife. It is very solid and well made. I am usually not a fan of serrations on my blades, but I like how aggressive the Veffs serrations are. This is more of a self defense knife for me than a utility knife. I didn't realize there were two sizes of this knife when I bought it, so I ended up with the larger model. After doing more research I saw that there is a M21-12DSFG model that is a bit smaller. This model is a bit larger than I expected, but it fits very nicely and secure in your hand. Has great indexing and is comfortable to use. Even though I have the larger knife, I do not feel it is cumbersome in my pants pocket. I hardly notice it is in there. One more thing to add about the size is I do not find it to be all that heavy coming in at 6 oz. I have read other reviews and saw that some said the blade opens in their pocket when removing. I have not found this to be an issue and all I can think of they reversed the clip. In doing so, I can see one of the hilts getting caught and opening the blade. I especially like the dual locking system as it adds that much more security while using. I do not find it to be a pain or difficult to unlock or close the blade. I highly recommend this blade and I hope this review helps people make a better decision if this is the knife you want.

The first thing you notice when you hold this knife is its impressive size. Then you open it and are immediately confronted by its deep bellied spear point blade. The size, shape, and serration marks of the blade make it both visually and functionally great, yet very intimidating! The desert tan titanium nitride finish on the blade separates this knife from all others in its price range! The G10 scales provide added texture to the knife making it easy to hold. They also make the knife lighter than other models in this series that are equipped with aluminum handles. The fact you can change the pocket clip to one of four positions on the handle is an added bonus! With a little practice, the blade deploys lightning fast once pulled from your pocket due to the double Carson flippers. It does take up a great deal of pocket real estate but that is an easy compromise when compared to its functionality as a tool and its self defense attributes. I would not hesitate to buy this knife again as I am extremely pleased with its quality and practicality. It really is another great product in a successful line from CRKT!

Okay, here's my story. I bought the CRKT M16 a decade or so ago at a gun show. Just love at first sight. Kit Carson is a terrific blade designer--beautiful military tactical styling, extremely simple functional utility. Since, the little black M16 has served me well traveling the world in my pocket. Nearly dropped it overboard once in the Gulf deep sea fishing, and feared it would be nabbed a few times by a shady mechanic or two when I forgot the blade in my truck, during scheduled maintenance. But alas, I'm lucky and it's still around, going strong. Then I saw a buddy of my son's with the M21 and I just had to have one. It was just like the big brother to the M16. Or, maybe I should say, BIG, BIG BROTHER. The M21 is a beast. It is really a HAND FULL of knife. Now, my poor little M16 feels like a toothpick in my hand. (Still love it though.) At over 6.0 oz., hefting around the M21, you might even have to notch down your belt another hole or two to keep your britches up. The tan or sand color looks terrific and is unusual when pulled out to show your shooting buddy. The knife's handle is a dull sand/tan. But the blade is more of a gold. It reminds me of the color and finish of gold anodize. I'd be much happier if the blade was a flatter color, more of a dead match to the tan handle. That's my only knock against the knife, whatsoever. The blade is frighteningly sharp. The double locking mechanism takes some getting used to, to close it up. Once you get the feel of it though, it can be closed with one hand - but it's an acquired skill. The opening is effortless, smooth as glass. One little detail I really admire is the slight spring detent the designer incorporated to keep the blade snap dead closed. This feature is not on my old M16. The detent I refer to keeps the blade firm and tight into the frame. A nice little plus if you choose to keep this hidden in your pocket. The knife clip is repositionable to either end, or side of the knife. Thus one can carry it clipped and ready retrievable in any position. The M21 Special Forces unit has dual opening tangs, or ears that make for a nice secure hand hold should one decide to thrust this baby through a car door or steel belted radial. Not that I ever consider doing such things. Just make sure you think twice about dinging my truck door at the next gun show. Hehe.

I had been looking for a replacement for the the Boker AK74 in desert-tan that I carried for a few years. There was nothing wrong with the Boker, I just wanted something new. One of the features I was looking for was a bigger blade but still under the 4" mark. A black CRKT M-21 caught my eye in a knife shop and the price tag was almost $80.00! (full retail IIRC) So, I found my desert tan M-21 on Amazon for about half retail, not bad. First thing you notice with this knife is the size & shape of the blade, It's intimidating to say the least. I like the quality of the grips & liner on this knife plus, the blade has a good thickness to it as well as being sharp and holding the edge. I've had to use my new M-21 at work a few times (And gotten a few compliments) and it has not dulled up, yet. The G10 grips are a bit spindlely, a few finger grooves would be nice but the material doesn't seem like it would slip easily in the hand. Lastly, the blade stays closed in your pocket until you need it and then opens quickly & fluidly. The auto-lock device works well, and takes some getting used to. (don't plan on closing this knife in a hurry) I would definitely buy this knife again.

The CRKT M21-14DSFG I received from PoorFish is definitely authentic. I have a few CRKT knives and I carry at least on of them on a daily basis for typical day to day tasks. This particular model is definitely the SHARPEST out of the box, of any previous CRKT knives I have owned. Sharp enough to shave the hair on your arm and cut small slivers off of thin notebook paper. It is razor sharp. I noticed that many people were saying that it was too big for a pocket knife. I disagree. While it is noticeably larger than say the typical M16-13SFG, it is still easily carried in my front right pocket with no problems. I have a lot of tanto blades and I actually prefer this blade contour with the deep belly & spear point for day to day chores. The auto lawks feature works perfectly and this knife will open very easy with even the slightest flick of the wrist, once you flick the side of the hilt. Also, the gold/tan finish on the blade is very nice looking and I really dig the G-10 handles. Overall, I am very pleased with this knife and for the price, or even 3 times that, you will not find a better knife. PoorFish provided very fast shipping and a super price at $42.00. Very cool look but very large. For EDC/pocket I think a bit big unless like survival/pouch/backpack. Veff cut great. Dual lock nice idea but liner locks always right-handed. Not good for Left handed use one handed. Cross guard great feature so if stab/pierce hand won’t go down blade. I had two others like this that were the smaller models which were better for EDC. Though honestly for EDC I carry a lock blade SAK bc the features . I just like knives. So collect them. I had this type in smaller than this drop blade and the smaller than that tanto. Both those were better to carry. This probably for idk if in war or tactical or hunting would be a good size. Or camp cutting meat/fruit/veg. It’s definitely tight/sturdy/beefy for folder. Though are other type knives better for different tasks. I like it. But for left hand or ambidextrous use, no. Got use two hands to close but one to open. Makes no sense that way. Arc lock or others better for left.

First, this is a very imposing and sharp knife. Tons of utility and use going on here. Looks are good, really good. Only one problem - I carry left pocket and left hand. The locking button, in combination with the lining lock made it really hard to close with the left hand. Super easy when I have it in my right, though. The hilt like shape of the blade takes up more room in the pocket, so be sure you have large pockets when you carry this cutter - otherwise you will have to make some adjustments as to which pocket will carry which item. On some of my dress pants, this takes an entire pocket. With my jeans, I can fit my Ridge Wallet in the same pocket, but retrieving it out is challenging to get past the cross guards that stick out. I love the length, too. I can't stand tiny pocket knives. This one is the real deal. I would like to purchase another without the serrations.

Absolutely love this knife. It’s my EDC. Nice and sturdy. The locking mechanism is a great feature. Worth every penny
