I do wish the sharp part of the blade was a little taller, but I was able to cut 4" circles out of 6mm thick foam decking with ease. The CMP-1 has a blade similar to an Xacto knife so that can cut paper, cardboard and some foam. I don't know what CMP stands for, I thought it was just a model label. **Q: Does it work on fabric?** A: The rotary cutter is for fabric. The straight-blade cutter is not. Choose which fits your needs. **Q: will it cut aluminum trays - the one that is used for baking?** A: This product is for artist and designers for cutting paper, some thin plastic sheets, poster board, etc. It might work if the thickness of your aluminum tray is about regular disposable baking aluminum foil pan. **Q: Will this tool cut small holes into a thin sheet of latex?** A: I use it on high strength silicone sheets up to 1/16" thick. It gets the job done. Circles as small as 1" and larger turn out surprisingly good. I bought the more expensive rotary version from olfa and a fiskars circle cutter and both were complete failures when cutting silicone rubber. Silicone is tougher then latex. One area that commonly challenges new armor modelers is painting the road wheels and idlers/returns (or whatever they're called, I AM new to this!). I started thinking about masking off the two main areas on the road wheels - rubber and metal; each painted a different color. I eventually though of creating a mask that would cover up the rubber portion of the road wheels, allowing me to airbrush the main color with (somewhat) reckless abandon. Thin Evergreen Scale Models styrene (0.010") with a circle cut out of it could be useful in this role, so I started looking for a tool that would allow me to do just that. The titanium blade of the Olfa CMP-1 compass would likely make short work of such soft, thin plastic, so I ordered one and received it the other day. I just sat down to try it out, and I think I made a good choice. My circles aren't *perfect* just yet, but that's simply due to needing to learn the technique to make one. There's a little bit of flex in the tool that makes it a bit more difficult, hence the 4-star rating.
