Good enough food for more than just emergency storage!!
The case I got from 123CloseOut was correct, genuine, of good date and sealed properly. Everything was as it should be. The meals are great, good variety. Each MRE comes with a variety of items besides the main dish like sides, snacks, desserts, drink mixes, gum, TP, wet naps, your tactical spoon... and a few other things here or there likes spices or hot sauce. The food is actually good, my kids WANT these over other food, camping or not. And.. with a grand total of 24 different meals (if you get case A + B), there is a good amount of variety. Forget the myths and rumors. The BIG reason I love MREs for hiking and camping is the self heating bag. Warm to super hot food in moments with no fire or stove, just a splash of water and a little waiting. You can stop in the middle of a hike and have a good meal with little fuss. Another great reason is all the stuff it comes with is great to munch on while on the move, and getting all the calories in ya that are needed for your trip. Each and every piece is sealed individually, so you can keep the kit in its main super strong sealed bag, or break down the kit to pack how ever you like. The down side for me is very little. I can only wish that each and every meal number came with a coffee kit, or five... not all numbers have one!! I also strip out some of the "extra" packaging when I pack, but that is not too bad of an issue at all.

The Real Deal
After reading the reviews, I was on the fence, with placing an order for 4 cases (2 menu A and 2 menu B). I wasnt sure if these would be the true, real deal, MRE'S I was used to, after 10 yrs in the Marines and was worried about knock-offs or some other brand being sent. After 4 days I received my 4 cases and they are 100% the real deal. The cases were un-opened, banded and had all the proper markings and temp sensor. I verified that each case had the proper meals and even ate one just to make sure everything was up to par. Everything was 100% correct and real military issue. The inspection date is late 2013 and these should last, with proper storage, indefinetely. I am very pleased I placed the order with G&P Outlet and will order again. These are 100% the real deal!!!

The best survival food is also convenience food
The old military K-rations got a bad rap for being marginally edible, but more recently the US military has adopted the concept of force multiplier because they realized that if troops weren't eating adequately they wouldn't be performing at their full potential. So they planned the meals to be nutritious and tasty. OK some meals, like the omelette, are still a little difficult to get down, but most taste quite good. One carton contains 12 complete and separate meals, which reduces the risk of food fatigue. If you suddenly need to bug out, the carton is small enough to grab and go. Then there's the convenience of just heating them in a pot of water, or using the heaters supplied with the meals. I've cooked many MREs on the dashboard of my truck so they're ready to eat when I get back to camp. Saves me the trouble of setting up a kitchen, storing foods, and preparing meals, and I can dedicate my ice chest to more important things, like beer. MREs are not cheap, but they last for years. You can travel a lot lighter with these and will have less trash to pack out. Unfortunately, the packaging is plastic and can't be recycled or burned.

not menues 13-24, but the chili-mac was (of course) outstanding
wow, have MRE's come a long way in the past 10-15 years!!! not only are they much more tasteful than previous incarnations, but and i would consider them much more gourmet than either the past, or compared with cheaper products that last longer. having said that, the only concern i have is their shelf-life (WHICH I KNEW GOING INTO THIS PURCHASE) and it should be noted that they are clearly labeled US-DoD/NOT FOR RESALE. Not that this is an issue as many contractors (which you can tell this is a mixed bag of) will sell off their surplus at cost if not below (so don't complain when you're getting a deal; right!) furthermore, personally i would take a couple years of the 5-year max due to this fact, but then again i also would add at least 2-3years on top of a factory fresh MRE; so in the end (at least IMO) it's a wash. HOWEVER, seriously not cool for sending the wrong package [insert name of vendor here] although TO BE COMPLETELY FAIR I DID NOT COMPLAIN NOR CONTACT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. honestly this was mainly due to the fact that i received a chili-mac mre, but also because in the end i really don't care that much. in fact i have since ordered a second box (although from a different vendor, but i'm not entirly sure that amazon processed/shipped it from the same or a different vendor; so i guess we'll see what happens :)

MRE
Came in perfect condition, and in a condensed box allowing for compact storage. Since these are an MRE, please do not consume regularly without exercise as it is high in sodium. The pack I bought didn’t come with menu 19, but that was okay since it is randomized.

Excellent
Excellent. Exactly what I ordered and all were in great shape. Anyone who actually has eaten these will know that this seller takes care of them and didn't leave them in bad weather etc.

MREs-not so tasty but made the trip fun
Bought these for Thru-Hike-Escarpment Trail-NY- The good-made the trip fun....How u ask-each MRE is different as to what it contains-you get your entrée-usually 2 packets of some type of protein/starch, a hot drink mix, cold drink mix, dessert-skittles in one that my son opened!, 2 pieces of chewing gum- not to be confused with some other type of gum....instant coffee, toilet paper and spoon, and ration heating system. The surprises in each one made our trip! The bad-the entrees not so tasty, but we were starving so they were ok, the weight was a lot for food, maybe the wrapping caused this. Range of entrees including the buffalo chix-not so good, Starkist tuna with lemon-great. We hiked about 13 miles a day with 45lb packs, could have lightened the load by picking/choosing what exactly to pack as we carried a lot out that was not consumed. Good use for emergencies: one final note-the heating system has to be improved, it was 60 degrees but still did not get food close to hot. Also, if you have 2 entrees per MRE-was difficult to heat both.
