Product Description Disney's THE LION KING SPECIAL EDITION features an all-new song, "Morning Report," and never-before-seen animation, giving you even more of this award-winning masterpiece -- the greatest animated adventure of all time. An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Score, 1994; Best Song, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight") set the stage for the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who "just can't wait to be king." But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of "Hakuna Matata," Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the "Circle of Life." Now extensively restored and remastered -- experience THE LION KING like never before, from its magnificent musical opening over breathtaking African vistas to its emotional climax. The all-star vocal talents -- including Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella -- rip-roaring comedy, and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty, and hope make this timeless tale entertainment for all ages. desertcart.com Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. -- Tom Keogh P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Review "A Must-Buy for your family DVD collection." -- Family Fun, Michael Trotman "Lion King finally gets a release on DVD and certainly, I have no problems giving this release my highest recommendation." -- DVDTalk.com, Aaron Beierle "Spectacular story, music, and animation." -- Today, Gene Shalit "The family crowd and casual fans will, of course, be blown away by the sheer volume of content here..." -- The Digital Bits, Bill Hunt Overall Score 10 out of 10. -- IGN.com, Andy Patrizio See more

This is a instant Disney classic a must watch for Disney or cartoon fans in general. The music is iconic and amazing some off the best in Disney history. The animation is amazing too. The actors how are voice acting for the characters do a awesome job in this movie too. Their is nothing not too like about this movie even the storyline is amazing.

Great package for Beautiful Film
I don't think there are many people who would feel that the film itself deserves any less than five-stars, so I'm mostly going to talk about the over all package. The film on blu-ray looks great. I loved watching it in high definition. The bonus features were extensive and interesting to watch. One day after watching the movie, I was up all night going through all of the bonus content, and there is a lot of it. It took me hours to go through it all, and I was quite pleased. Altogether, it's like having an extra movie about the entire making of the actual film. There were videos where they went through the creation process for the characters, what was involved in making the film, tricks they used, obstacles they encountered, how they overcame those obstacles, how the story developed over time, how the artists learned to draw the characters (hint: actual lions in the studio), how they chose music artist, how the music artist felt about working on the film and how they came up with the songs. They show the story boards, and early versions of a certain scene. I could go on and on. There are even videos discussing the making of the Broadway musical version of Lion King, and how that came to be. Even at the very late hours of night, I found it all to be quite interesting. As an amateur artist, I found some of these areas especially interesting because it gives you a good idea of what went into making this film. There were even "bloopers", haha. Keep in mind, that these bloopers are not real. They were purposely made to be released as a bonus feature just a little joke. Real bloopers like that just don't really happen in animated films because everything is looked over so carefully and everything has to be consciously drawn. They were funny. I don't know what else one could want to be included. This blu-ray disc had everything on it, and you could spend the majority of your day going through it. This is one of my favorite films, and I couldn't ask for much more. If you like this film, you should buy this. I can't think of any reason why you'd regret it.

Long Live the King!
Hey, so the live action "The Lion King" movie has come calling. You know what this means? It means that I need to re-watch the old school classic animated film again!Words cannot describe my love and excitement for this animated film! "The Lion King" is probably my all-time favorite animated movie and it is one that never got old no matter how old I get! I just had to get this beauty on DVD because I wanted to re-watch this movie OVER and OVER again until the day I DIE! But, here's a brief summary of the film if you want to know why this film is so AWESOME!The film started off with the birth of King Mufasa's son, Simba and because of this, Simba will be next in line to be the king of the Pride Lands. But unfortunately, Mufasa's evil brother Scar, wanted to be king himself and he starts making a plan on how to get rid of both Mufasa and Simba. When Scar finally succeeds in taking down Mufasa, Simba ends up running away from the Pride Lands and ended up with a warthog and a meerkat named Timon and Pumbaa. Now that Simba's past has caught up with him, Simba must take his rightful place on the throne and defeat his evil uncle Scar."The Lion King" has been a TRUE childhood favorite of mine! It has everything that you could ever hope for in an animated movie: drama, action, beautiful animation, amazing characters, brilliant character development and of course, MATURE THEMES like the death of a parent and the importance of being a ruler that is important for both parents and children to learn from. Probably the best part about this movie were the characters and the music themselves as they were very well done. My favorite songs in this movie were "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," "Hakuna Matata," "Circle of Life," and "Be Prepared!" I also loved the character development being done with all the characters, especially with Simba himself as he had to learn that he can't run away from his problems and that he must face them head on.All in all, if you want to see a true animated classic film, then "The Lion King" is definitely the one movie that you just got to watch! It has everything that you could ever hope for in an animated film and it is one film that continues to be an all-time favorite of mine to this very day!

So good it demands a Blu-Ray Player despite being a mortal DVD!
I love this movie so much I bought it on Blu-Ray of the 4 Disc Diamond Edition. There are some things I like better about this edition though, which include on a qualified player you can get near Blu-Ray quality out of the DVD without some of the funky choices they made for the Blu-Ray (green zebra stripes during I Just Can't Wait to Be King, anyone?) I literally saw how good a job they did on most things on this edition when properly able to play, and I'm ALMOST embarrassed to buy the Blu-Ray (but then again, when you get it so right overall this time around, why not reward Disney for a job so well done it would take a late 2016 Blu-Ray Player for it to really show itself off.As for the movie, I'm going to wait until the verified purchase comes in before I tell you about this movie. ;-0The Four Disc Diamond Edition-I can't say enough good things about it. I bought it and find it can pick up where I'm at in the movie when I go from my Mac laptop (which I use most of the time) to any of the other computers, and when I need the ultimate in portability with HD picture quality I can play it on my iPad.I never have more than 2 devices on the Internet and playing The Lion King from the Diamond Edition's digital copy @ once, so I can have a choice of which machines are turned on and able to use it. If you don't pay the $60 roughly for this Four Disc Diamond Edition brand new, or you don't get what that is supposed to be, you deserve better. One person bought this and got something worthless and I feel sorry for him I say because when I ordered it, I got a brand new never opened fully legal DVD with digital copy code and it just worked. If you get what I got, it's a steal for $60. If you get had, you deserve to complain and I sure don't mind hearing it.The Blu-ray Disc played perfectly and I'll need the 3D TV to play the 3D movie. I'm glad this movie can grow with me!And I wound up being so happy with it I bought a second copy of the verified purchase for someone special-just who it is depends on who @ all wants it the most. I like being able to share what moves a guy like myself. And since I had an unresolved question about the 1994 edition, I fixed up both VCR bearing devices, bought the VHS tape, and finally got the chance to see the credits as they were when I saw the movie minus the credits (Momma had some crucial appointment that day) and the credits were flubbed on the 2003 Special/Platinum Edition AND the 2011 Diamond Edition, and that's one of the biggest gripes movie updates can give.

I simply cannot believe how beautiful this version is
The movie itself is a timeless classic and I don't feel the need to talk about plot itself. It's great, and it became even better experiencing it again as an adult. But the real highlight of this version is the visuals. I cannot state enough just how beautiful this movie is in 4k HDR. The best way to describe it would be like watching a painting come to life, hop off the wall and then start dancing in front of you. It's a living painting. And if you have any experience whatsoever as an artist, this movie is a transcendental experience. You are able to make out all the pencil and brush work, and the colors are vibrant and powerful. I could rant about how good it looks for hours, but I'm going to cut this short and just ramble at my coworkers about how good it looks, even though I'm sure none of them know what 4k even is.This movie is absolute perfection, aside from the fact that when you pause the movie, a stupid indicator of where you are appears in the corner of the screen - which sucks, because I REALLY wanted to just pause and stare at the screen as if it were a painting - because most scenes in this movie are. 11/10, slightly upset that I'm going to be spending a LOT of money buying more Disney animation.

"Diamond Edition" lives to it's name.
I won't bother describing this movie or why it's probably my favorite Disney movie - Many other reviews will gladly tell you, and I'd think you'd be buying this Diamond Edition because you've already seen it. This review focuses exclusively on the Blu-Ray disc. The discs come in a very nice-looking case. It was much smaller than what I expected, but there's nothing wrong with that (I'd say it's for the best, there's not much room around the house anyway). It comes with a cardboard sleeve, with excellent shiny artwork. The art on the plastic case itself it's the same as the sleeve. Just as pictured. The disc boots to some (skippable) previews, and a menu appears, allowing you to choose between French, English or Spanish (Latin American spanish, not European). I checked the spanish option, and it automatically set the movie to play with the dub, the special features are subtitled (the bloopers are dubbed) and all of the menues are in spanish. I'd assume it's the same with French. English should be pretty self-explainatory.I decided to check the movie, and it looks phenomenal in HD. Every detail is visible - from the twinkling stars when Mufasa teaches Simba his lesson to practically every leaf, branch and grass blade through the movie. The colors are excellent, too. The audio was also quite great. (I can't really comment, since I don't have a surround system and have to rely on the TVs built-in speakers for the moment, but it sounded pretty good anyway.)The special features include "Pride of the Lion King" and "The Lion King: A Memoir". Both detail the making of the film, but "Pride" also includes details on adapting the film to a Broadway musical. Other features are animated bloopers, an interactive gallery detailing Character sketches and model sheets, backgrounds and story, deleted scenes that include Scar trying to make Nala his queen (which was later adapted into the Broadway musical) and a song about Mufasa, and the "Morning Report" deleted song. There's also the "Disney Double Screen" (or something along those lines), which requires another device (such as an iPad, I guess). Unfortunately I don't own anything like that, so I couldn't check it out. There's also the Disney Vault, which as far as I know requires BD-Live (My player has it, but no internet - shame on me!)All in all, I'd say this Blu-Ray is a sucess, and I am proud to say The Lion King is the very first Blu-Ray movie I have owned. I'll check out other Disney Blu-Rays to add to the collection.

Let me tell you a story...
This movie came out the year i was born and on the exact day which i was brought home, My father made sure to buy a copy of this movie in VHS. As you can see, this was a long time ago. Between then and now, we have moved twice and between the first change of house, the VHS was lost. My father and I were devistated. Luckily, DVD's were bearly being released and so, my father bought me a dvd for my room along with a copy of this movie. When he would come home from his first job, we would sit in the couch and watch the Lion King and laugh/ imitate the hyenas all night long. Fate once more frowned upon my family and once more we had to move. During this move, the DVD was broken in half and scratched by a lovely car. It passed unnoticed. I had also grown into those teenage years where rebellion was "in" and so, I didn't care weather we had this movie anymore or not. My father began working double shifts to support our family and well, our relationship grew thin. Ya know, the whole "I only saw him for 30 minutes every other day" kinda thing. And that went on for a long time. I graduated Highschool and started college and still, our relationship remained the same. That is, untill one thanksgiving eivning we sat down in the same couch, in the same position, and turned on the tv to see (yeah you guessed it) The Lion King.Lets just say, I took a second to notice what was happening around me. My pops started snoring cause he was tired. The once Dark brown fluffy hair was now a wisp of grey and brown poofyness on top of his head. I no longer fit snuggly between his arm, and he no longer was able to walk me on top of his feet. I got a little sentimental and looked away but that old man got me... He just said "MUFASA" in the loudest possible way and I once more knew that my father, my Mufasa, had returned. "OH IT TINGLES" was all that i replied and for that night, I was 5 years old again. You don't really need me to Review this movie, you have seen it before. We all know how a great movie it is. If you are buying it, You possibly have a story like this to tell. I'm thankful for you reaching this far, but this story has dragged on long enough. I bought this movie as a gift to my father. He is turning 60 and I just entered 20. and this DVD, as meaningless as it could be to you, Means the world to me....
