Bad experience at first until i saw Dermatologist and now
Prior to using skinceticals Retinol i had been using image Retinol for years which worked great.I read so much about this being the strongest and most effective so i decided to try it out . Strange as it may sound this stuff the first night really made my face feel like it was burning up i mean uncomfortable painful .Since i been using Retinol for years and Retin A at one point and followed directions to a T i was shocked. The next morning my face was a train wreak with bright red spots almost blisters like.I ended up making an appointment with my Dermatologist who thinks i had a reaction because i didn't allow enough time to to get the image out of my system before starting this.Makes sense because i had used the image retinol the night before i started this.Anyway after prescription of a steroid ointment i was able to resume this two weeks later and no burn i only had major peeling for a few days.My face is now adjusting very well to this and i am seeing and liking the end results.my skin is much more evened out, some dark spots are less noticable and the fine lines are definitely less noticable. My face is left with a nice complexion .So though it started off bad and with some advice from my Dermatologist i was able to continue and im not having any more issues.I really like this line i use the foaming face wash , the scrub twice a week to rid any dead skin and a few others from this line.If your new to this line and retinol i would highly suggest started with the lowest one and work your way up because i think this is the most potent of Retinols i have used.I personally think its pretty effective as Retin A which i have a new script waiting to fill had i had more issues with this but so far its all good but im gonna hang onto that script anyway.

Great Retinol Cream - Use With Caution Until Your Skin Is Ready
Another great Skinceuticals product. Retinol is the ingredient that everyone seems to agree is a must if you want to prevent aging/reduce wrinkles.Studies show retinol helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, and my wife, who grew up in Southern California, used to put butter on her skin and bake in the sun. You can imagine the brown spots and melasma that she developed as a result. My wife sees a cosmetician once a month and has for the last four years or so. They started with a major peel (Melanage), which got rid of about 35% of the melasma. My wife was not happy with that reduction, so she has continued to search for products to lighten the skin and brown spots, as well as reduce wrinkles and stop the aging process. This sounds like what every other woman her age wants. So, she has gone through a series of products, including La Prairie, Revive, and dermatologist recommended products as well. Over the course of the last year, she started trying the Skinceuticals products and loves them. She ordered this Retinol cream, in addition to other Skinceuticals products. The directions make it clear that you should start once or twice a week and then increase as your skin becomes accustomed to the product. My wife (who is 52) followed those directions, and is glad that she did, because this is indeed a very strong product, and your skin will peel. We will continue to use this and reorder. It is a great product and does not clog pores. The dispenser system makes it easy to use and apply, without contaminating the entire product with each use. My wife also loves their CE Feurilic, which she uses in the morning on her face and neck, and at night on her neck. She also uses the Skinceuticals Resveratrol at night, as well as their pigment corrector and overnight dry moisturizer. Overall great products dermatologist recommended, and reasonably priced when considering the alternatives to get these results.

Strong, takes at least a week to work but depends on Your body to make new skin, works slower if your Older.
This works.. but it depends on your skin thickness (and your Age!) and use pattern. It is 1% which is no where near prescription for a good reason. It took about 2-3 weeks of persistant twice a day use on my skin before a thin totally circular layer of skin peeled neatly away. I came to realize that your body had to make skin cells to replace those peeling away, so using this on Scar tissue or Deep sun spots has to penetrate and force your skin to make replacement cells before the top layer peels away.. then it itches slightly and a very exact circular patch of skin (like a bandaid) comes right off revealing the replacement skin underneath (and the skin is bright red from all the blood vessels making new skin.. its not painless but what you would expect from a wound healing). I am treating specific tiny regions of problems, so I did not massage it into a broad area. It is very effective however after a lot of time.. I can't imagine the pain someone might inflict on themselves if they tried to make vast areas of their face or body suddenly have to replace all of their skin.. it would be like getting a burn I guess. Came in a fairly large shipping box, and then the original Skinceuticals Retail packaging with a leaflet of professionally printed directions. Had an aluminum seal underneath the cap that had to be removed before the retinol would flow through the tip.. has a built in puncture device.. but I removed the seal without using it and put the cap back on. The top is a two part, larger cone with a separate smaller cone for a cap you unscrew the smaller cone cap and it lets you apply a small amount with the larger cones narrow tip.. which is very important. Do not use it like a Lotion!

I have used this product in the past and suffered the dreaded soreness, redness and peeling at first. I have purchased it again this autumn as my skin needs help after the summer, despite having use SPF 30 every day this summer. I intend to use skinceuticals SPF50 next summer! This time, knowing what to expect if you dive in head first using it neat on the skin, each time I have used it I have mixed about a centimeter of the cream with a scoop of a balm I made from wheatgerm oil (vitamin E) and ascorbyl palmitate powder (Vit C ester)which I also got via Amazon, so that I would get my A, C and E all together. I read that it is myth that you should not use C and A together and research has shown that all 3 together is good for the skin. You could, by the way, just mix it with wheatgerm oil, or any other oil suitable for putting on the face, on its own if you dont want to bother with ascorbyl palmitate powder. Ascorbyl palmitate, like retinol and unlike ascorbic acid (which is also too irritating to my skin for me to be able to use anyway), is fat soluble and so all 3 of the ingredients mix together very well. I wouldn't mix the retinol into the pot with my balm though as I read that retinol starts deteriorating once exposed to the air. So I think it's probably best to mix that in fresh each time. The result has been amazing and I have not suffered any of the previous extreme peeling (it has been very light this time) and not really much in the way of soreness at all this time - a bit of pink-ness of the skin in places, especially on cheekbones, for a few days but that's about it. I used it this way just every 3 nights for the 1st 2 weeks and then went onto every other night the 3rd week and once I could see I was having no problems with it I was able to graduate to every night after that. Even with the wheatgerm oil, the skin does go drier initially but no real problems. Skin's looking clearer now, pigmentation reduced, no spots since started using it,lines looking less - GREAT!

Arrived after about a week from ordering. well packaged. Go easy girls - I too thought that more would be better. The instructions tell you to use a pea size for your whole face, I used a pea size around my mouth and chin, then slathered more on the rest of my face. The result was that two days later my skin started peeling off, by day three my face looked like raw meat. I was severely burnt and sore, just putting fragrance free moisturiser on was painful. I couldn't go to work for two days it was that bad. However.... a week later my skin looked lovely !! I believe I have now mastered application. Two years ago I had a cosmetic procedure and the surgeon told me that the only thing that will eradicate wrinkles is Vitamin A, which is retinol, not smoking and staying out of the sun. I have continued with the retinol and used it once a week, then twice a week. I'm now using it every other night. I apply a pea size and dot it round my face, rub in avoiding the eye area, after 20 minutes I then apply a fragrance free moisturiser. I use SPF50 sunblock under my makeup during the day and on the nights I don't use the Retinol I just apply a moisturiser. It really works. If you do decide to use it expect to peel, after all that's what the Retinol is doing sloughing off the skin and leaving fresh new skin. it also helps stimulate collagen and minimizes pores. I use a face brush and exfoliater to get rid of the peel and a good moisturiser. I will definitely continue to use and would use this company again. Just remember to heed the warnings and use very little to begin with.

I used prescription retinol once before years ago when I was 14/15, but after a week threw it away because of the agonising side effects of peeling sore skin. Now 27, I recently had a terrible skin reaction which triggered yet more acne and the worst hyper pigmentation Ive ever experienced. Ive had enough of acne now, so in desperation, but not enough to get the hardcore stuff from the GP, I bought this instead. The first 2-3 days I felt like nothing was happening, then by day 4, after applying moisturiser my face felt like it was on fire! Then I noticed my skin starting to peel. So, at least I know it works. I eased up on it straight away. Its now week 2 and I use it every other night, so my skin is slightly peeling but not so much that Im in pain. Once I've GENTLY exfoliated and moisturised, theres no evidence of flaky skin. My huge pores are a lot smaller, my hyper pigmentation is fading slowly but faster than when I wasn't using it, and my acne is a lot calmer. I'll update whether this product clears my hyperpigmentation or not within the next couple of months. Im hoping to get my skin the best it can be by my wedding day this August so wish me luck! And would like to add, after the first week my fiance and parents noticed a significant difference even though I didn't think there was. And they don't know Im using this product.

I use this all the time. I wouldn't be without it. It is my luxury skin care have to have. I am always being complimented on my skin which is hardly wrinkled for a nearly 60 year old. I think retinol has helped greatly in giving me good skin. I would not start on this strength retinol if you are a first time user. Get the 0.5 retinol and use it 3 times a week and gradually build up over 5 or 6 weeks to every day. You might get break outs at first and if so cut down a little and make sure you moisturise and don't put it near the delicate skin of your eyes. Gradually over 4 months build up to using the retinol 1.0. A couple of days a week then once every other day and then daily. You will be amazed at the difference. Don't forget to exfoliate gently too a couple of times a week because this will gradually peel off all those dead upper skin cells and you want to remove this so you don't get horrible peely looking skin. Most important of all, using this cream, is always, always use at least a factor 30 spf face cream during the day and try to protect your face from the sun. Personally, in the morning after cleansing with a face wipe, I wet my face just a little, put on a hyaluronic acid serum and let that dry and then apply the spf cream. Works for me!
