All-Clad Specialty Stainless Steel Tea Kettle 2 Quart Induction Pots and Pans, Cookware Silver

I bought one of these a few years back at TJ Maxx. Back then All-Clad was still made in the US. It had a brilliant whistle that I could hear in the next room. I bought this one on Amazon because I couldn't find it at the Williams Sonoma store and I love it so much I wanted a back up. Seriously, I went through multiple kettles in less than 12 months before I found this All-Clad back in the Spring of 2017. As soon as I saw it sitting on the display I knew it was the one kettle I could own that would actually last. And it has. But this one, as beautiful as it is, and it heats water just as well, it does not whistle. The steam flows all around the spout and yes, it does rise up through the whistle, but alas, no whistle sound. I don't want to send it back because it's so beautiful. It's all shiny stainless steel and very strong looking. But I really do want it to work. And I'm disturbed to read one review that shows photos of the interior of the bottom peeling. I've never heard of such a thing. I've given 5 stars hoping the replacement will not have any problems and because from the looks of it, it is well made. I'll update the review when the replacement arrives. In the meantime, I can say don't hesitate to buy it but keep all the packaging and the boxes. I'm glad I did even though my first thought was that there weren't going to be any problems. Fingers crossed the replacement will be perfect. Update: Amazon had an amazing return on this. I clicked on 'replacement' and it was on it's way and delivered in two days right to my door about 15 minutes ago. It's whistling like it should. Fingers crossed it lasts a very long time.

I've waited several weeks to write this review because I've had several of the problems that others have expressed. I hope that this will help others decide based upon three things that have been reported as issues. First the size. Yes it is a large kettle but it is a two quart kettle and this is how large they are! I would like to have one that is about 1.5 quart or about 2/3 the size of this but as far as I know, this is the only size they offer and the kettle is absolutely beautiful!!! Second, my kettle did not whistle when I first used it on my gas range. This was disappointing but there was so much steam coming out of the spout that it was obvious that the water was boiling. Third, the handle got so hot that it would burn you if you touched it after the water started to boil! It did not matter how small of a burner I used on my gas range! I used a two inch simmering burner that makes about a 4 inch dia. flame and the handle still got hot enough to burn. It also took forever to boil water on that burner. I later switched to a three inch dia. burner with a 5.5 inch dia. flame and the water boiled in about 15 min. (1.2 quarts) After reading other reviews I decided to try something that I did not see mentioned in the other reviews. I purchased and induction cooktop. The one I bought was the Nuwave2 (As seen on TV) I really didn't want to buy that one because everything I ever purchased that was from an infomercial has been worthless! I finally got it at a local store because that way I could return it if it broke after a couple of weeks. I also purchased a one year warrantee for it that allows me to replace it, no questions asked! Here is what happen: The cooktop works great but what is really fantastic is that the 1.2 qts. of ice cold water boiled in 7 min. 40 sec. and the handle was cool !!! (No potholder needed !!! ) It also whistles now !! I guess the convection currents from my gas range kept it from doing so before. Strange... So the bottom line is that the kettle is great and the induction cooktop is a perfect match. I guess that any induction cooktop would provide the same results but the Nuwave also includes a pan that is of much better quality than I expected. It also has digital temp control but I haven't tried it on anything except max yet so I don't know how well that works. There are cheaper ones than the Nuwave but it was the only one that was locally available for purchase in a store so I got it at a higher price than Amazon offers. I view the extra cost as an acceptable premium for the ease of return option. I hope this helps.

I did a lot of research for a clean and safe kettle after learning ceramic/porcelain electric kettle was giving off heavy metals into the water. This kettle from All Clad came out on top for quality, construction, and functionality. It’s food grade stainless steel inside and out, and heats up on the stove quickly and is easy to clean. I’ve since become a fan of their other products and purchased their handheld immersion blender and some utensils. Amazing stuff.

Great looking, reasonably well built but not as heavy as the all-clad sauce pans you are used to. It does have a 1/4 in. metal disk attached to the bottom, covering about 80% of the bottom of the kettle, so the bottom isn't as thin as the rest of the kettle. I boiled 1 quart of water in 3 minutes and 26 seconds on high using an induction cooktop. In comparison, a quart of water took 3 minutes and 16 seconds to come to a rapid boil in a Demeyere 2 quart sauce pan. I have a couple of Demeyere pans and they seem to bring things to a boil just a few seconds faster than my all-clad d5 pans. So the kettle boils water about as fast as you can boil water in a quality sauce pan. I had no issues with the handle getting hot, but if you intend to leave the kettle on the burner with the water boiling in it for any extended period of time, it is likely the handle will eventually get too hot to hold in your bare hand. The lid fits reasonably snug, but doesn't seem to completely seal, the opening in the kettle for the lid appears to have been squeezed a little out of round by the installation of the kettle handle which leaves a little wobble in the lid when it should seat fully in the kettle. This is not a big issue for me, but for the price, you may expect a perfect fit. This is a tea kettle, it boils water for tea, or for whatever else you need boiling water for. Cheaper one's do the same thing, so if the expense is an issue, go for a cheaper model. The kettle will hold 2 quarts of water to the maximum fill line. You buy this kettle to impress your friends and neighbors. If you need a heavy duty weapon, use the sauce pan, it will make a bigger impression. The whistle will not wake your neighbors, and if you leave the room you may not hear it. I usually use the kettle to boil about 16 oz. of water for a cup of tea, and it only takes about 2 minutes to come to a full boil, or just long enough to get the cup out of the cupboard, the tea bag out of the cabinet and out of the wrapper, find a spoon, and a little honey, and its time to pour the water.

Here is my teakettle tale of woe. I drink a LOT of tea. Several cups a day. I have had five teakettles. By far the best was my mother’s Revere Ware pot from the long ago days of yore. Unfortunately Revere Ware went out of business because of course they did. They made great products. But I digress. My teakettles have been the following. 1. Revere Ware. Five stars, excellent product. 2. Chantal. Very expensive. Extremely loud whistle which I liked. I need to be able to hear the whistle from another room. It lasted over a decade and then I accidentally boiled it dry and the enamel interior got ruined. Oopsie my bad. After many years of faithful service, it owed the world nothing. Five stars but I don’t think that enamel interiors are for me. 3. Susteas. I bought this two years ago when the Chantal died. I’m not gentle with my teakettles so I thought why spend a lot of money? After two years, the handle was coming loose. Then my husband put it in the dishwasher and the whistle died. Also the handle got very hot and the stainless steel was difficult to keep clean. The whistle was fine, loud enough at any rate. But I didn’t mind saying goodbye to it. Three and a half stars. In November I bought the Mr. Coffee. It was a little smaller than the others. I got a black one because I thought that it wouldn’t show the crud the way that the stainless steel Susteas had. I liked the color. I liked that it had a max fill line. The whistle was a little quiet, but I could still hear from other rooms. HOWEVER, after two weeks of use, the plastic top of the pour spout melted. Gross. Zero stars. Actually, negative one star. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for. With that in mind, I purchased the pricey All-Clad. Bright and shiny and new, per the instructions I rinsed it in soapy water, filled it to the max fill line and waited with great anticipation to pour the first cup of tea from my beautiful new teakettle. I waited and waited. Steam was coming from the spout so I knew that the water was boiling. Surely the whistle would kick in soon. I waited some more. Finally it started, softly at first. Softly at second and third and fourth. It was barely audible. Now steam was coming out of my ears instead of out of the teakettle. I will never be able to hear it in any room other then the kitchen. It’s useless to me. At least nothing melted so I will give it one star. I don’t know what I will try now. My husband just informed me that our new garage door opener just broke so maybe I’m not destined to have nice things. Making tea and opening garage doors have become high maintenance projects. Perhaps I’ll just heat up my water in the microwave. :(

I did a ton of research when I needed a new tea kettle for my home. I initially decided that a LeCreuset kettle might be a strong contender, but in chatting to an associate at LeCreuset, I learned that crazing was not considered a replaceable defect. I have 35 pieces of LeCreuset so I am well aware of the quality of their products and most of mine are in perfect condition after 20 years of use. But, unfortunately, I have a large stockpot that has interior crazing at the bottom. It is enamel over steel. LeCreuset will not replace it. I mean, what could you expect with a stock pot....it gets high heat and should be a warranted condition. So, this made me consider other options and the All-Clad solid stainless steel kettle was what I purchased. The kettle is beautiful. The whistle is not that loud, so, if you are considering this kettle, make sure you are not too far away when you are boiling water. It boils water fast. The handle does not get super hot, although the lid does. I much prefer an all stainless kettle rather than one with any plastic on it. So, the slight warmth of the handle is completely acceptable. I've only had this kettle for a week but I love it so far. I use filtered water for the kettle, so I don't think it will get any sort of chemical buildup as long as I keep using this filtered water. Hopefully, it will last many years, like all of my All-Clad skillets and pans. Note: LeCreuset does make a stainless steel kettle, but it was much more expensive and had points of plastic on the handle and whistle.

Beautiful. Extremely shiny finish. Nicely sculpted. Solidly built. Thick metal. Stays warm for a long time, so I find I am using the hot water in it for cooking, etc, later too. Looks high quality. Nice wide base, appropriate for today's nicer pro gas ranges. Whistle spout flips up easily. Dishwasher safe. Solid lid that fits well, yet doesn't get stuck. Wide opening makes it super easy to clean inside. A bit too expensive - it is just a kettle. Whistle is very soft. Can barely hear it from another room. If you turn up the burner to max (but not so much that the flames whip up the sides), the whistle does get a bit louder, but then kettle will get too hot and you might risk boiling off water. I did not want a kettle with a whistle, but my husband did, so maybe this is the perfect compromise. Handle gets very hot. I was hoping not, based on some reviews, but you definitely need an oven mitt to pick-up. But then I also just got a brand new gas pro range, which, even on simmer, really heats up. But I can't imagine any gas flame wouldn't do the same to this all-metal kettle. Metal is thick and kettle is heavy, so if you have any arthritis or wrist issues, you might want something lighter. For me, the weight is part of the appeal. All in all, wonderful. The most beautiful kettle I've ever owned. What's the point of continually buying low-quality kettles, and replacing them regularly. I expect to have this forever.

a tea drinker would tell you they first need a kettle to boil water rather than a teapot for serving. This one is pro grade, whistles when boiling, does its thing. 5 stars.
