I paid $30 for this same thing in 2009 and now it is $439??? what's with that?

Supply and demand i guess.  Im not selling the mouse for $439, so i cannot answer for that particular seller.  Once an item is "out of production" it changes the supply drastically.

I bought this last year for $80 and I Know this cannot is not a correct price, is this kind of price gouging common?

Nathan was correct. I had the same issue a few years ago with a Microsoft trackball. They had discontinued it and the only NIB were going for 5 times more than the original price. If the product is discontinued from the manufacturer and new supplies are limited the market will determine the price. It's not much different from someone selling a collectors item that's NIB for much more than it orginally sold. How about the Beanie Baby craze when people would find a rare one for retail and then mark it up 1000% and resell it.

Logictech no longer makes this trackball, so are you willing to pay 10x the orginal price to have one?

NO, I am NOT willing to pay 10x the original price for this simple obsolete trackball. What kind of greedy ogre is allowed to markup prices like this? Do NOT fall for this thievery. IMHO.◙ Have a happy 4th of July celebration, be careful with the fireworks, have fun, be safe.

Well, it's an issue of supply and demand.  The product is no longer manufactured, and New Old Stock - which this is - is in limited supply.  Most of us who want or need this device will settle for a used or 'refurbished' one for a fraction of that $489.99 price, but sellers of the NOS item are asking the highest price they think they can get - and if you check around, you'll find that this inflated figure (roughly ten times its original retail price just several years ago) is in fact in the ballpark.
