A shoe adapter that goes great with your Sony Camcorder.
I got this for my Sony HDR-CX560V camcorder, I have an HVL-20DW2 video light and I needed to attach it to my camcorder, but of course the Sony camcorder only has an Active Shoe Interface for electronically powered digital microphones or camera lights. So fitting my HVL meant I needed either a mounting bracket, or a shooting grip. I already had a mounting bracket for my shotgun microphone, so another bracket just wouldn't work with both a large shotgun mic, and the HVL. So I took a look at the shoe adapter for the Active shoe slot, got it today, and it solved my problems. It fits tightly into the slot, and it did take a little force to slide it in since it doesn't have the connection prongs, but a solid plastic block. It does tighten into the slot with the screw like other Active shoe accessories and forms a tight grip that easily supports my HVL and the accompanying battery NP-F970. Once I removed the shoe accessory, the Active slot was perfectly fine. My accessories worked perfectly, and there was no damage done from the shoe mount to the Active slot. So I know I can put this shoe mount on and off the camera safely which was my main concern since sustaining any damage in the active shoe slot would be damaging to the camcorder. It has a fairly sturdy construction when mounted to the slot and camcorder, and with the light and battery in place, it was well balanced on my camcorder, and the metal shoe mount on top didn't warp, bend, or show any signs of stress breaking. Overall, I'm very pleased with this add on, and it saved me from having to get another bracket or a shooting grip I don't need. For the money and convenience, I would highly suggest getting one for your compatible Sony camcorder if you want to attach regular camcorder accessories that don't require a powered connection to the camcorder.

Works with Sony DCR-SR85
This works fine with my Sony DCR-SR85. My one issue is that the shoe connection isn't as firm as my ECM-HW1 microphone receiver that also uses the AIS Active Interface Shoe. This adapter can come free even after it is tightened but it's one of the only options in the market. I've successfully used it to hold an infrared lamp as well as a phone holder if you want to record or live stream directly via uvc

Works on a Sony HDR SR-11 (which has an AIS proprietary shoe)
Seems to provide a stable connection. I have not yet mounted any accessories on the hotshoe adapter. Once I do, I'll probably update this review. Bottom line, it fits on my Sony HDR SR-11 and for <$10 gives me a normal shoe mount.

Great price and does the job
No need to buy the more expensive brands. For $7.19 this adapter works great on a Sony HDR-SR11. It's very stable and I bought for use with the Rode VideoMic Directional Video Condenser Microphone w/Mount .

Works on my camera ... but not for long
First, here is my initial review, posted shortly after I purchased the product: I have a Sony HDR-CX700 camcorder and it needs this adapter to allow me to attach non-Sony items to the camera. It is a little tight to install, but once installed, it works perfectly. ----------------------- However ... Just before I was going to film a wedding, the adapter broke in half. That night, after the wedding, I took it to my show and found that the top and bottom half are held together with only two screws, and these screws go through holes that are too big for the screw head. Therefore, without a washer, the screw cannot hold the top and bottom half together. There are washers on each screw, but they are thin, flexible plastic washers that are 100% guaranteed to fail as soon as any torque or pressure is applied to the adapter, such as readjusting a light or microphone attached to the camera through this adapter. So, in summary, a single, thin plastic washer is all that keeps the two screws from pulling through the holes, thus causing the two halves to pop apart. I had some small thin washers and was able to repair mine, but now that I understand the design, I wouldn't trust this to hold any equipment that I didn't want to damage or lose. Perhaps it was designed this way so that if you turn or torque whatever is attached to the adapter, that force won't break the mount in the camcorder. However, I think the real reason is that it is just really badly made.

Disappointed
Another review says this works on all Sony camcorders that have the recessed shoe. But it doesn't work on mine. I have a HDR PJ650V and this shoe does not stay on the camera. The part that fits into the hotshoe on the camera, is too narrow and pops out. It never stays put. I know that my camera isn't listed in the list of compatible cameras; so buyer beware -- take a close look at the list before you buy this. I'm a careful buyer; this time I took a chance and hoped that the device would work. I will be looking to return it.

It's ok
Ok, but the nut used to tight the adapter to the camera doesn't look with enough strength. In addition to this, the item it's ok. UPDATE The plastic is really fragile, it brokes easily.
