From understanding what strategy can do for you, through to creating a strategy and engaging others with strategy, this book offers practical guidance and expert tips. It is peppered with punchy, memorable examples from real leaders winning (and losing) with real world strategies. Strategy is simple, but simple is complex. The Third Edition includes updated examples and a new set of practical future-focused tools including the Quick Strategy Canvas and the Big Picture. These will help any manager, regardless of experience, to better develop their inner strategic potential for outstanding results in our ever changing world. People who wanted to shape the future have created our present. With over 7 billion fellow humans sharing our planet, things are not going to slow down or get simpler. At the heart of strategy is the mind of the individual strategist, and by nurturing your ability to see the big picture you can get better at adapting successfully. You can get better at shaping events to get to somewhere better. Using available means to desirable ends. Expectations keep shifting, new competitors keep appearing, rules change and then change again, technologies disrupt and then politics shake up the nature of the landscape in which you compete, work and live. Being more strategic is about our-thinking both competitors and limitations. Strategy is not a solo sport. The Strategy Book focuses on how you can create powerful strategies with other people to deliver success together in a competitive world. It answers the following questions: · What do we know about strategy? · What can creative strategy do for you? · How can you create winning strategies? · How to think and act strategically? · How can you engage people with strategy? · How do you avoid pitfalls and screw-ups? It can be read as a whole or you can dip into the easy-to-read, bite-size sections as and when you need to deal with a particular issue. The structure has been specially designed to make sections quick and easy to use – you’ll find yourself referring to them again and again. Practical guide to strategy with real-world examples, and a useful set of frameworks
I was lucky enough to see an insightful talk by Max McKeown at Warwick Business School as part of my MBA in 2019. I have since read 'The Strategy Book'. It is an enjoyable and engaging read, I would thoroughly recommend it! At approx 240 pages including a strategy toolkit (around 70 pages) which provides a useful summary of the main strategic frameworks, it is a fairly quick read that you'll want to carry around with you, and keep dipping in to. It is packed full of practical advice, real-world examples, and useful insights.

Importance of issues
I never really understood strategy until I bought and read this book. I'd heard people talk of strategy. Sure. But understanding it is something else. In my field of work I'm.very focused on pleasing the client ( not sexually) economically. I work with numbers, mergers, business. However strategy has opened up something new for me. Like a lamb in the womb waiting for birth. Hearing the bleating of other sheep but not quite knowing what is in store for me. Since reading this book I have not only blossomed in the workplace but I have had a rebirth ( or sorts) I am a strategist now. I work through things differently. I am different. I am free.

Only good if you own a business
I bought this book to try and create a strategy for the job I'm in, but only found a couple of pages that catered for that. This book is definitely for people who own their own business or are head of a company. I also found that some of the paragraphs seemed like they were trying to fill up the page, when it could have been said in one sentence.

Strategy | Headwork to Legwork
"Everything in strategy is simple, but the simplest things are complex." (Mackeown, M., 2020, The Strategy Book, 3rd ed. Harlow: Pearson Education Ltd.) I feel fortunate to have found this book primarily because it offers a strategic masterclass in such a prescriptively descriptive manner that is rare. It nearly hand-holds you, rather accessibly, through the interconnecting parts of the strategy implementation process. I would dearly recommend this book if you are the one for maturing a worldview of strategy-as-practice. It is my go-to book for all matters strategy.

Includes some great strategic thinking tools sometimes lacks in context
A simple and clear read, consolidates concepts in an easily digestible way. Slightly annoyed that a the most useful diagram of the book has not printed properly.

Essential reading that breeds clarity around strategy
I’ve run my own business for nearly a decade and if there’s one word that most misused and misunderstood, it’s strategy. Max’s book is essential reading for anyone in business who wants to shape a better future for their business. It’s easy to read but detailed and infused with Max’s expertise. There’s some theory but also actionable tools. If you work through this book and take action, you’re going to benefit from it.

Disappointing and Too Superficial
I had high hopes for The Strategy Book, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. While the book touches on a variety of strategic concepts, it barely scratches the surface on any of them. It feels more like a collection of vague ideas than a practical guide for building or implementing strategies. The writing style didn’t help either. It’s overly monotonous, making it hard to stay engaged or motivated to continue reading. There are no real-world examples or deeper explanations that could bring the ideas to life or make them applicable in practice. If you’re looking for a deep dive into strategy with actionable insights, this book probably isn’t for you. It’s more of a high-level overview, but without enough depth to be useful.

A great mix of theory and practice
That’s the first book on business strategy I think os really great. Most of strategy contents are just blabla, piece of thoughts, anecdots and theories which you don’t know much what to do with. This one is really practical, with key questions you gotta ask yourself while creating your strategy and a lot lf tools and frameworks at the end that you can immediately put in actio .
