3 Year Review- Good Cattle Prod If You Keep It Out of the Rain
This cattle prod works well and the battery lasts for weeks, then I recharge when needed. I purchased this just encase I needed a little more authority dealing with Bovines. I found I really only need the CP when two bulls are going head-to-head and a third bull joins in from the side (I really don't like two against one). You don't want to get in-between 6,000 lbs. of angry Angus animals. The West Thorne will move the third bull quickly away by touching his rear thigh. I found if you press the shock button, then release it before contact with the animal, the shock is less to the animal due to voltage being what is in the capacitor only (mini shock). Boys will be boys. This cattle prod is not waterproof. I left it out in a light rain overnight and had to spend time drying it out, in order for it to work properly. Still, a really good cattle prod. When needed, replacement rechargeable batteries are available. Still don't need one.

Durable Cattle Prong
I bought this in 2021 for my small herd of goats. To keep them from trampling me during feeding time. It works great and Iโve only had to use it once or twice. They see it and stay clear till Iโm done feeding. I highly recommend it still going strong, and Iโve only had to charge it 3 times in the past 4 nearly 5 year, thatโs including my husband playing with it and sticking it to metal to make it spark.

Pleased with this purchase!
I have had some bad issues with other people's dogs when walking mine. Other big dogs have attacked mine while mine were on leash.I purchased the 33 inch prod as that seemed like a good compromise between reach and ease of carry. I discovered that it fit perfectly in the carrying bag that comes with folding camp chairs. So I just sling the bag over my shoulder and off we go. The prod can quickly be pulled from the carrying bag. It still looks a little crazy to onlookers but not as obvious as walking my dogs carrying a cattle prod. This item does have two switches and one activation button that would need to be managed in an attack. So I placed a small piece of duct tape in the 'on' position of the prod. I feel this will help me when the next attack happens. This way I won't be fumbling around figuring out how to turn this on.I received this in January and I fully charged it. I haven't had to charge it again. Every so often I turn on the flashlight to make sure it's still charged. I should probably consider charging it anyway as it may be getting low. This product does not shoot sparks when you activate it in the air. It has to actually be touching metal or flesh to spark. If it did spark in the air it may scare off attackers, but then it would also scare my dogs.Since getting this prod, we've had dogs run out on us but so far no attacks that required me to use this.

Works
Works, no complaints. Won't electrify unless touching something, though, so it wont work to scare off animals

Works great!!
UPDATE: We've had these for like 4 years now. And they still work. We've been able to stop at least two dozen fights within seconds. Still highly recommend. We have 6 pitbulls and occasionally they don't get along. We tried everything from spraying them with a hose to actually getting in the middle to try and stop the fight. Needless to say, neither of those options or the ones in between worked. We knew we needed something. So we got two of these shockers. Now we can break up a fight literally within 5 seconds. Just a jab to their asses, the fight stops and they huddle together. Most of the time I don't even need to use it anymore, just the sight of it and they are on their best behavior. People often ask if we feel bad for using it?. Does it hurt them? Absolutely not, I do not feel bad using this on my dogs. It does not immobilize them. It's a shock to where the prongs are touching. They'd get far more hurt and cause alot more damage to each other if I just let them fight. I recommend this 100%!

Only need to use once
Like one of the previous customers who left a review. We have 6 pitbulls that we raised as guard dogs. They are never aggressive to strangers unless they open our front door without me or my wife and kids with them. They do tend to get excited when one of us comes home which has led to some vicious almost to the death fights. Nothing would stop them instantly. Except for this. I've had to use it on each dog, but only once to each of them. I don't even have to keep it charged anymore. They know if I get up and get it what is gonna happen. Best thing ever for my situation. I love my dogs and hate having to do it, but it's the only thing that made them learn not to fight

Zero Service
I purchased 3 of these for all of our hands to use working cattle, which we do multiple times a month. I gave them as gifts at Christmas. We had all three of these going for the third time we've had them out. I was very impressed that one had not been charged since previous use and still held a great charge. The other two charged quickly and performed well until....we were loading the last trailer and it was all baby calves. Calves the same size as a sheep, so small they can't be hauled with their mommas or they get stepped on. While pushing them in the trailer one calf was a little stubborn and got a 'push' with this hotshot and it snapped into half a dozen pieces. Nothing but wires dangling. I was the one using it so I know the amount of pressure used and it was minimal in comparison to what these units are supposed to be designed for. I tried reaching out to the manufacturer after tons of research. As is the case with most items these days tho, the manufacturer don't want you to be able to contact them so it took weeks to find any information. And as you can expect they won't respond now either. Guess we will stick with feed store battery packs from now on, as they honor their product with a warranty. After 2 years, West Thorne has yet to even respond much less honor their warranty. Since purchase a second prod has stopped working as well, won't charge. Save your money and find a reputable company.
