Altra Lone Peak 4.5 Low Mesh Trail Running Shoes The multi-functional and popular Lone Peak Low Mesh Trail Running shoe is back with minor tweaks to enhance the fit in the upper as well as an improvement in the cushioning. Mesh Upper An update on previous versions, the mesh used on the upper part of the shoe is not only more breathable, but it has improved durability and security. The Footshape toe box allows your toes to spread out more naturally, offering greater comfort and stability in uphill climbs and downhill descents. Thicker material coverage and support is offered to the toes and the heel, protecting it from bumps and downward forces. Should any liquid enter the shoe, the improved drainage hole system will remove it efficiently and effectively. The upper has been trimmed down slightly, which has helped make the 4.5 lighter and more flexible than its predecessor. The lacing has been simplified, which makes it easier to adjust for midfoot lockdown and a personalised fit. Heel loops make transporting muddy shoes indoors is quick and easy. A four-point Gaitertrap is a hook and loop tab that allows you to attach a strapless gaiter, which would prevent debris and grit from entering and causing irritation. A-Bound Midsole The EVA midsole contains many areas with features that provide the shoe with extremely responsive rebound and cushioning, as well as the standard EVA that also protects and rebounds. A-Bound, and energy-return compound sits directly underneath the foot, which reduces ground impact, returning the energy as a spring for each step that you take. The EVA is slightly updated in the 4.5 in that it will give you a more resilient feel. The feet sit on the midsole on a zero-drop platform. This means the heel and the forefoot are the same distance from the ground, encouraging proper low-impact form throughout your trail run. Found inbetween the A-Bound and the EVA midsole, there is Altra's Stoneguard. This is a shield that offers flexible pro

Used for hiking - excellent
I am not a runner...oh no! Not getting involved in that barmy 'sport'.I do however hike alot. A bit like a Forest Gump where I just keep on going.Got a bit fed up of my Salomon (terrible brand where nothing lasts more than 8 months) boots and fancied swapping to something lighter.Lots of research and everyone loves the brand they are using. I settled on these after several through hikers recommended them.Out of the box they are really comfy and above all I am loving the big toe box.Very grippy however no ankle support which obviously I am used to in a boot (you trail runners must have strong ankles).200 miles in and I think they are great. They are NOT waterproof at all. Bit rubbish in that department however they dry very quickly.I got the grey colour which isn't grey, it's a blue which is actually nicer.

Finally, the perfect hiking shoe
I don’t want to sound too much like an Altra fanboy, but I absolutely love these shoes. Had many hiking boots and shoes over the years, but these are just perfect. I hadn’t actually heard of Altra until I started researching trail running shoes to wear for hiking (and a bit of trail running). I have pretty flat, wide feet and shallow insteps and the Lonepeaks seemed to have been designed for my feet. Tried shoes from Salomon, Saucony, La Sportiva as well as the Altra Timp 2.0, and they were all way too narrow. These are perfect; incredibly comfortable (the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn), with lots of space for my toes to spread and enough cushioning to protect my feet but feel like I’m in touch with the ground. I’ve heard that some people struggle to adapt to zero drop shoes, but I’ve had no problems at all. Brilliant.

Fell apart, go for the 4.0s, avoid the 4.5s
I bought these to replace my Lonepeak 4.0s which were amazing. They had lasted me for over 600 miles before they started to fall apartI bought the 4.5s to use on my UK coast to coast solo hike, which was going to be a soley camping hike. I did 50 miles of trining in the sheos prior to the hike, during this time, the heal on the right shoes rubbed which was rather unusual because i have never had a pair of altra lonepeaks rub. I sorted the problem by bending the tip of the shoe rim in the anke area over to 'remold' the shoeMy hike consisted of many miles of rocky trails, bogs and a lot of water. During the second day the sole of the shoe started to come away from the body, by the 5th day the material of the toe boxes had ripped open and the stitching was falling apart on both sides. I made it to the end of the walk but by the last day, the comfort of the shoes was dramatically reduced.I am dissappointed in the quality of the shoes and how quickly they fell apart. I do prefer the lacing mequanism compared to the previous model and the toe box is a bit more sequre.I would recommend either getting the 4.0 shoes or waiting for the next model, where hopefully improvements will have been made. It is a shame about these shoes because altra are a decent brand of shoes and have never let me down before

Pandemic walks
These ALTRA Lone Peak 4.5 Low Mesh Trail Running Shoes were purchased for urban walks during the pandemic. So far I have managed to walk at least 10 km each day in them. They fit perfectly, and I find them very comfortable. I quickly got used to the absence of a heal, and the shoes have made me more aware of the different surfaces underfoot, which I rather enjoy. My feet would have been complaining after 10 km in the shoes I was wearing before these (shoes I had always considered comfortable), so the distances I am able to walk are increasing. I hardly ever write reviews, but it seemed only fair to report that I am delighted with my Lone Peak 4.5s.

Toe box smaller than 4s
Not as comfy or user friendly as loan peak 4s which has larger toe box and easier laces.

Lightweight with good grip
Lightweight trainers that are great for trail running, really good grip. I have a broad feet normally size 8 but they were too tight & my toes touched the ends so went up a 1/2 size, better fit on the width but one of my toes still touches the end, I have those weird toes that’s are longer that the big toe. I’ve got used to that now & find them comfortable, a great trainer.

Best Trail Shoes for Wide Feet
Using these shoes for hiking training. Ive tried lots of shoes over the years but always come back to Altra Lone Peak. This is my fifth pair. I have had problems with other makes of hiking shoe being too narrow, resulting in lots of foot injuries; lost toenails, underfoot pain, skin grazes over toes etc. These shoes let your feet spread out and you walk better as a result maintaining a more natural posture and gait. Great Shoes!

Best buy ever
I have been wearing these for about a month now roughly doing around 60 miles a week walking. I have to say these are the best pair of trainers I have ever worn. They are so comfortable and the amount of room your feet have to breathe is amazing
