No, the charcoal does not come off on your hands or in your mouth. It's more embedded in the floss than that.

Can you please clarify how this biodegrades? Since some "biodegradable plastics" actually require separate sorting and special heat/chemical condition

I don’t think any part of this is plastic. The thread is bamboo and the container is glass w aluminum top. The refill is wrapped in a thin, rice like paper. So, all of this is either biodegradable, reusable and or can be recycled.
