Artist's Loft Fundamentals Gouache Paint, 12 Count

I've always admired watercolor and gouache paintings. In case you don't know the difference (I didn't), watercolor is completely transparent and gouache has some opacity. I have always been scared to try watercolors, mostly, because you have to be pretty expert with them since you can't "unpaint" or cover over areas you meant to leave white. So I always use acrylics so I can layer over mistakes.In an attempt to grow as an artist, I decided to try these gouache paints as a stepping stone to watercolor / translucent-style painting and these are PERFECT! They offer for the delicate transparency of watercolors, with just enough of a subtle opacity that you can actually "fix" it if you do make a mistake! I never knew such a paint existed and I am TOTALLY in LOVE with these paints now!!TIP: If you leave them overnight in your plastic palette, of course they dry out but then you can just add water again and keep on painting! That is NOT something you can do with acrylics, which means you only have to mix and create the color once - not mix it anew each day!Attached are my first and second paintings with these gouache paints. The flowers were painted using the "cool" colors: Violet, Viridian, Pale Green, Cerulean Blue and a touch of Prussian Blue for the darkest areas and a bit of Lemon Yellow as well. I painted the girl using all of the "warm" colors included in the kit: Burnt Sienna, Crimson Red, Vermillion, Yellow Ochre, Lemon Yellow and Lamp Black. There is a little bit of Titanium White used in both paintings. I chose these 2 paintings to demonstrate the use of every color in the kit.There is also a "Tips & Techniques Guide" included in the box, but I didn't even look at it because I just wanted to play with paint but it's good to know that it is there if I want it.Anyway, after searching for a great introductory way to teach myself to use watercolors / gouache paints, I am so glad to have found this paint set and I am already on my second set! This paint set is THE ONE and every artist should try these!!

this is a good set, vermillion was leaking/ cut but I just washed it off and super glued it. I definitely recommend although I believe you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

I bought this for a friend who’s studying visual arts. They arrived quickly in perfect conditions. They’re exactly as represented. Beautiful array of colors.

Very poor quality and this price is four times that charged by a competitor!
