desertcart.com These excerpts were taken from the recording that has established itself as the standard by which all others should be measured. Herbert von Karajan's orchestra is no less than perfect, as much a virtuosic performer as the singers, evoking each moment's unique mood. Can there be any doubt that Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni were born to sing Puccini? Their sweet, creamy voices splendidly blend, creating a complete aural portrait of the bohemians' souls. Elizabeth Harwood is a wonderfully high-strung Musetta, with the vocal talent to support her many moods. After hearing these highlights, you won't be able to resist the whole set, which is the greatest recording ever of the world's most beloved opera. --Barbara Eisner Bayer Review: Great recording - It's Boheme perfection. Review: A Great Way to Enjoy La Boheme at Home - Although I am not extremely knowledgeable about opera, I heard La Boheme once and fell in love with its beauty. After borrowing my public library's copy about 50 times, I decided to treat myself to a personal copy, so I bought this CD. Although this particular recording contains excerpts only, it is affordable and provides all of the great music from the opera. If you're interested in the complete opera, you might want to buy the 2 CD set. However, for anyone who just wants to kick back with a glass of wine and listen to beautiful music, this CD is perfect.

If you enjoy opera, get this.
My critiques of music are clear and subjective. Do you not like opera? Don't waste your money. Do you really like great music and the art of opera? Give this a try. You will enjoy Puccini. I can find no fault with the recording, no fault, obviously with the music or the vocalists, an uplifting experience. Uplifting is the purpose of fine music, unless you have a savage breast to soothe. Did I enjoy this? Very much. Will you enjoy it? Only you know. To quote the old advertisement, Try it; you'll like it.

Puccini and Pavarotti's Best
La Boheme is Puccini's fourth opera and his second operatic success and what a great success it is! You don't have to love opera to enjoy this masterpiece, the music is enchanting, magical, and truly bears the mark of genius. A masterpiece delivered by the Maestro Pavarrotti at the peak of his vocal powers. This is the way we all want to remember Luciano, dynamic, strong, sustaining the high Cs with almost superhuman power. A wonderful recording.

Magnifico
This is without question the best recording of La Boheme that you can buy. Pavarotti was at his peak and was perfect as Rodolfo. Mirella Freni and he sing some of the most beautiful duets ever recorded. If you want La Boheme, this is the recording to get.

Beautiful rendition. Pavarotti soars.
The music is wonderful. I would have given it 5 stars but the music ends so abruptly. It would be nice if there was a better transition.

Superb recording. Pavarotti was superb as Rodolfo and Freni in beautiful voice. Her floating lyric soprano is aptly suitable for the fragile doomed Mimi and Freni conveys this in the voice - I would have loved to have seen her perform this live but unfortunately never did. Whilst still singing, she had an amazing singing career - starting as a soubrette with parts like Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and then, as the voice matured, even taking on the title role of "Aida". Here again she was marvellous. The rest of the cast on the CD were outstanding too - a CD to cherish!!!
