Real Food Recipes
I love this cookbook! The recipes can be served as “regular” meals to family and converted to soft, puree, etc. meals. This way I can eat the same foods (only pureed) at mealtime as my husband, instead of making 2 separate meals. I also love that the recipes use real food, without requiring me to buy special food items and additives to make the food safe for me to eat.

Very helpful
This book provides lost of information about swallowing problems, which was very useful, but I hadn't realised there weren't that many recipes. However, the recipes that are included are simple, containing everyday ingredients. The one thing I don't like is that the measurements are imperial, not metric (but I can easily write out the conversions in the book).Would recommend this book to anyone who is newly-diagnosed with a swallowing condition, or the cook of such patients.

not just a cookbook!
This is an organized, instructive book that is easy to read and offers a practical range of information and recipes for people who cannot chew or swallow easily . This is not just for extreme eating problems, and is really useful for family members, caregivers or spouses who want to offer safe and appealing foods to people with eating challenges. It addresses:*who might have eating difficulties and why,*what types of foods might be palatable and safe for different chewing needs, so you needn't modify more than necessary,*how to prepare and offer foods so they are appealing,*what cooking tools you might need or already have, to accomplish your cooking tasks.I bought this with family members in mind, but I am also an SLP. I just purchased it a week ago and have already recommended this book to several patients.

This is not your usual pretty recipe book
This book saved my sanity. When my husband was diagnosed with dysphagia my meagre kitchen skills were totally inadequate to the task. The challenge of keeping him well fed, interested in food, and nutritionally up to the mark was beyond me. Then along came Sandra's advice, understanding of the problems, and some helpful recipe ideas. Some imagination was involved in translating the American ingredients into the nearest equivalent available on Australian shelves, but not an impossible task. The advice on kitchen adaptation, shopping list suggestions, and modification of ordinary dishes is invaluable. This is not your usual pretty recipe book. There are no pretty pictures, and what a relief it was to know that my culinary efforts didn't have to match up to the professionally photographed dishes. But the simple ideas I find on almost every page have turned both my husband's and my lives around and we now find that we can manage this awkward stage of our lives so much better.

written for me...
I am one of thousands of people suffering from dysphagia (inability to swallow anything solid) following a major jaw surgery. Since the surgery 7/1/2011 I have learned a few tricks by myself but the book provides some good recipes and common sense advice. It is really not for vast majority of people who can eat normally but I would strongly recommend it to fellow bad swallowers (dysphagiacs). It actually may be more useful as a real book than e-book but with some care one does not have to spill milk over one's Kindle.

Hard to Find Resource
Since I ordered this, my husband has since died of Parkinson's Disease and COPD. It is so hard to find already softened food for those who have trouble swallowing. This is much better than trying to come up with the right formula when preparing foods "from scratch." Thanks.

Excellent book
I have swallowing problems. This was not only a concern but was causing me to panic. This book provides an awesome explanation of what is physically happening, ways to change your eating/swallowing to correct some of the problems, and how to manage swallowing challenges. I like the way it breaks the suggested foods/recipes into different levels of swallowing issues based on my needs. I learned so much from this book. My doctor was going to send me to speech therapy. However, after reading and incorporating the suggestions given, after my speech evaluation the therapist discharged me as not needing those services. She told me there wasn't anything else she could add to what I was already doing. Would highly recommend this book to anyone facing swallowing challenges.

American
Would have been better if it was British book and maybe recipes for two most are for four or six .

Helpful advice for those coping with swallowing difficulties
Information and advice on why and how to make food soft for those with swallowing difficulties is very good and easy to follow.Recipes are easy to follow, and generally tasty, but rather let down by too few recipes for entrees (main course dishes to us in the UK) and too many on desserts. And useful to have a set of US measuring cups.

Good for ideas and explanations
I work with people who have swallowing disorders, and this is a great source to lend out for inspiration and ideas for people who have to have a soft or purée diet. Lots of information about modified diets and nutrition - not read it all yet, but looks relevant and clear.

Good book
A very good book for anyone suffering swallowing problems. It contains a lot of useful information on the different reasons for having swallowing problems and the type of foods they should be eating for that particular reason. A good lot of recipes for smoothies, breakfast, lunch and dinner, also has a lot of dessert recipes. The only flaw is the lack of international recipes.
