LUTU 26/27.5/29 Air MTB Suspension Fork Travel 120mm QR 9mm XC

This is a one year review since installing this Lutu Fork for my daughter's Trek Marlin 6 mountain bike. Bottom Line Up Front: I cannot complain. Great purchase, good product for the money. _____________________________________________________________________ My son and I own high-end mountain bikes and we use them on rough terrain. I do all the maintenance myself for both bicycles and motorcycles in our garage. My daughter is only mildly interested in mountain biking. Therefore, the Trek Marlin 6 suited her needs. However, bikes in this "entry level" category come with cheap suspension forks. In this case, the ubiquitous Suntour XCT spring forks. This OEM fork sucked. It had 100mm of suspension travel, but it moved only 25 - 30mm. It also leaked black oil constantly. The worst aspect was its heavy weight. My daughter was unable to jump or lift the front end over obstacles. My son and I tried riding her bike, and we confirmed that the bike was too "front-heavy" with this Suntour fork. Enter the Lutu Fork. I ordered the Lutu fork with 27.5" tire clearance with gold/orange anodized fork finish. The fork arrived fast, in a typical Amazon manner. The product appeared really nice. The overall design was a direct copy of a 2015 Fox Evolution 32 fork. The fork sliders had anodized markers and numbers a la RockShox so that you could adjust and set the sag. Installation: Everything fit just fine. I had a minor difficulty with adjusting the disc brake caliper onto the fork. You just have to have patience. Make sure that the disc rotor and brake pads have enough clearance. I torqued the brake caliper mounting bolts to Fox Fork and Shimano torque data. The ride: What a significant improvement of the ride and handling! The Suntour fork was very heavy. It could be used as a boat anchor. The Lutu fork was just as light as Fox or RockShox fork. Therefore, lifting the front end over obstacles became easier (safer). I was skeptical about the long term ownership of this rather cheaply priced Lutu fork. Therefore, I waited over one year for this review. My son and I "borrowed" my daughter's bike for some thrashing sessions. So far, so good. The air has not leaked to date. There is a minor oil leak every once in a while. However, this is too minor to degrade my rating. Overall, this was an excellent purchase. In the future, if this fork does wear out, I will not rebuild it. I will simply purchase another Lutu fork if necessary. ____________________________________________________________ Caution: Remember that this is a straight steer tube (not tapered), with QR drop outs (not thru-axle). You must purchase a "star nut" separately - this is cheap. You must re-use the "headset crown race" off of the original fork. The steer tube is full length; you might want to cut the steer tube. (my daughter preferred the higher handlebar height, so we did not cut the steer tube) If you do not understand these words of caution, I recommend that you seek help from a professional bike mechanic. Otherwise, you can research on YouTube for 'how to' videos. Again, overall, this fork replacement was very easy. You CAN do it.

Compared to the heavy coil-spring, ginormous Zoom shock that came with the bike, this Lutu shock is fantastic! It shaved about 3 pounds off of the total weight of the bike, and the ride quality is so much better that it is like riding a totally different (and better) bike. It is fully adjustable, including recoil adjustment which is not usually found at this price range. The lockout works just right, just enough movement to eat up tiny bumps. I don't have a scale to weigh it, but it is very light. About 3 pounds less than the shock it replaced. I can't speak for longevity. I have only put about 100 miles on it, on easy turf. This might be an issue too, as air shock do need some maintenance at certain intervals, and that maintenance often calls for replacement seals which might not be available for these shocks The 'brand name' brands like Rockshox, Manitou and Fox have parts available for service...but that service goes for $100 to $200...which could be more than the price of this shock. If this shock blows up, I will probably buy a Fox, and by that time I will probably have upgraded the whole bike to something that better suits a $500+ fork. I consider this fork a great interim solution, to learn why an expensive fork is useful and to get better at riding MTB.

As a replacement for the worn out OEM coil fork on my 29’er, this has been great. The improvement in ride quality is very evident. An area I frequently ride has sections where tracked vehicles have left long stretches of washboard terrain, which previously were a jarring, miserable riding experience. Now, they’re really barely noticeable. And the fork is far lighter than the chunky coil fork it replaced - it’s a noticeable difference in weight of the bike. I have only a couple gripes. The fork comes with absolutely nothing in the way of instructions for installation, maintenance or setup, or even contact info. However, installing it is extremely simple, except for the brake cable issue mentioned below. There are any number of videos online to illustrate the process. A tubing cutter definitely helps yield a proper cut of the steering tube. As mentioned by several other reviewers, you may have issues with the brake caliper needing a lot of patient adjustment to prevent the rotor banging into the caliper body; this is a pretty basic manufacturing issue, and a millimeter or so of extra height on the posts would be helpful. Of course a thin washer can give the clearance, but that’s not the point. Be aware that the fork is quite a bit longer than OEM forks on bikes with 80 mm travel (it was almost 3.5” longer than the original on mine) and this does manifest itself in a changed geometry and stepover height, as well as likely necessitating a longer front brake cable. Setting up the fork for sag and rebound was easy, and the rebound adjustment works nicely. update 4/7/23: after having put several hundred miles on this fork, including some punchy drops and rooty/rocky trails, my confidence in the build quality is pretty high. There’s been no air loss, no loose/rattling parts, no drama. I really don’t think I could be any happier with the performance; it’s made my ride time much more enjoyable. I had an older Stumpjumper with a Fox Talas fork, and there’s nothing about this fork that’s compared negatively. The only reason I’m staying on 4 stars is the lack of instructions and the brake mount posts being a hair off. Improve those two things and it’s a 5 star buy.

The stanchions on my Fox Talas RL fork finally wore out on my 2010 26” Specialized Stumpjumper Expert. A comparable replacement fork was more than the bike is worth. The Talas RL is a 140-120-100 and most of the less expensive 26” forks are 100. I didn’t want to compromise the geometry of the bike so I wanted at least a 120. The other challenge was would another fork work on the bike. The existing crown race and bearings were in good shape and fit perfectly on the Lutu fork. The Avid Elixir brake caliper bolted on without any modification and the rotor and brake pads lined up perfectly. The fork is solid and has plenty of adjustments to dial it in to my liking. The yellow warning stickers were a little unnerving, but the shock performs well when riding technical trails. The ride feel is comparable to the Talas although the Talas is a little more responsive on the bumps. Not sure how I will service the fork, but I will cross that trail when I get there. My only complaint is the compression adjustment dial is different than what was pictured. I would prefer a dial that says Compression rather than ABS, but the dial works fine. Overall a great fork for the money if you want to upgrade to an air shock or keep an older bike going.

The first thing is it has great value to start with. And it works very well at first however I found out that the manufacture specs do not line up with the PS I had to put in. I’m 200 pounds and had to put in 120 psi so that way the fork didn’t bottom out. This felt extremely dangerous especially when they were recommending around 70 psi. The fork didn’t work very well though but still bottomed out with 120 psi Update: don't ride jump lines it will wreck this fork and your rim. Now your local trails this is a huge upgrade to your spring fork but if you find yourself doing something stupid at 25+mph and on a black jump line then invest in a good fork😂

I bought this to fit up to a giant frame that could accept disk brakes. Together they are the basis for a bafang ebike kit. it's a nice light front end and might work well for cross country. The Giant frame weighed 4.5 pounds, this fork is 3.x. With no efforts to keep the weight down in rims tires and tubes, the bike weighs 45 pounds and gives you an excellent ride for a hardtail. I hope the seller offers a rebuild kit, I don't think I need a better fork for my use. It's some weeks after my original post, and now time for an update. I weigh 214 pounds, I have ridden 400 miles on this fork, at least 50 of those miles were on VERY rough trails, and with some faily steep declines. I'm pretty amazed I can say it again, but I simply don't need a better fork for what I'm doing. My goal is to get there, and this fork has allowed that on every trip. As someone else said, the stickers come off pretty easy, and then your light fork is even lighter.

I was skeptical when ordering, but for the cheap price, I figured it was worth a try... I was wrong. Not worth the try. Out of the box, everything looked great! Parts look sturdy and ready for some good rides. The problems started after install. I used the weight and psi matrix to determine the ideal pressure, but I was never able to achieve psi greater than 40. This is a problem, as the forks were never able to sustain my weight. Shortly after this, I found a puddle of oil under my bike. Any time I try to add pressure, more oil comes out of the seals.

Just love this new fork. Have only taken a few rides but it's like floating on a cloud compared to my old Suntour XCT coil fork. Trail has a lot of roots and drops and the air fork with Damper is a definite upgrade. I also noticed the front end is much lighter than the old fork and the bike is much less nose heavy and more balanced. Only thing to left to consider is durability. Old Steel Suntour was built like a tank. Only time will tell if this Lutu fork will hold up. Right now it has been worth every penny. You will need an air shock pump if you wish to change the air pressure and will also need a Star Fangled Nut to install. You also may need to cur the stem shorter to match your existing fork. A good pipe cutting tool will do the job

Perfect forks and light too . I'm going to put a set on my other mountain bike . Fast delivery too . Definitely worth the money .

Bought these forks to replace a set of Suntour spring forks that came on my NCM Moscow e-bike. Glad I did! Not only is the ride much more comfortable going over rough terrain, the forks have a great aesthetic about them - the bike looks much better. I've only put on about 100Km on them, and so far they are performing well. The key to this fork, and all others, is to perform regular preventative maintenance (keep them clean and keep the seals healthy).

Esta tijera suspensiones es de las más ligeras. Sin embargo, no cumple con su función de amortiguación debido a que las barras se hunden al momento de montar la bicicleta, lo que conlleva a bloquear completamente la suspensión. He intentado ajustar las barras, pero al ser de aire no tiene mucha fuerza y se hunde por completo las barras hasta el fondo. Si están buscando una tijera de suspensión que cumpla con su función al 100% les recomiendo encarecidamente que consigan una de marca reconocida como una Rock Shox o una tijera de suspensión hidráulica o de resorte, pues esta que compré me ha dejado algo decepcionado. Todo por ahorrarme unos pesos he cometido el error de pedir esta tijera de suspensión y tendré que cambiarla porque definitivamente no me sirve para el cross Country.

These are my first air forks and they are awesome. If you have never used air forks before, I recommend this product. So far no issues but I don't ride it super hard and I keep the rebound and dampeners off so I really don't expect any issues for about ten thousand kilometers. Keep it clean and lubricated with the appropriate lube.

I wanted an air shock to upgrade/replace the crappy stock coil shock. I don’t do downhill but can be a little hard on my bike as I’m a XC/trail rider. Works great, lots of adjustments. Great shock.
