A very good hand shovel but .....
You must be gentle with it after pushing it into the ground. Mine got bent and twisted twice, from moderate work, and I was particularly gentle with it the second time. I took pictures the second time and will upload them.I used it to dig up weed roots, a few were about 1/2 the size of my pinkie (a men's medium) and the bar easily bent and twisted twice. The first time I bent it back, the second time I took pictures then bent it back. I now feel that the tool may not be worth it to me, because I must so gentle with it. I'm 66 and fit but not muscular.I think this trowel or hand shovel is perfectly designed and a perfect size to let you push the blade a little harder into the soil while you are stooped or working on your knees. But after pushing the blade into the soil you must be gentle with it. It bends and twists easily with modest force. I give it a 3 star for value instead of less because the design is so wonderful, perfect really, basically a two handed shovel to work with while on a knee-pad. I just wish it was sturdier.

Great tool from a great company!
These are such solid, well made tools! I have four of their various tools so far, and there are several others on my wish list. :) There would be many more to wish for, if I was serious about gardening - it seems like they have a specialty tool for every need. The trowels have a thicker metal blade than the usual stamped stuff you may be used to, but the edges are ground to a bevel, so they are thinner/sharper - making the digging easier.I am so happy to find an honorable company that makes quality products and stands behind them! DeWit will be my garden tool company forever! Yes, they are more expensive than walking in to HD or L, but these tools will last so much longer, and will probably outlive me...It's been said before, but I'll say it again - a good tool really does make the work easier. When the tool actually helps you, rather than you having to accommodate/work around the tool - for tool weakness, design flaws, etc... I just wish I'd discovered these tools years ago!

Keep looking if you need a sturdy transplant trowel.
I bought this long handled trowel specifically for what it is advertised, transplanting small saplings and plants. This advertised forged steel and an ergonomic handle for two handed leverage, but even roots on 4-6” tall maple saplings were too much using moderate one handed leverage, easily bending the metal base. Assumed for the price it would be significantly stronger, but my search continues and this one will be relegated to lighter use.Giving it 2 stars and. It one as the trowel head is nicely made and sharp so it cuts nicely through roots. Handle is comfortable.

One of the best trowels I've owned.
One of my favorite garden trowels. I bought two more after using one of them.I also have DeWit's rock and root trowel, and wish they made a hybrid of the two. I need a narrower trowel than the Transplant Trowel, with a stronger stem, for digging rocks and roots in hard ground. I've bent this one a couple of times, so I turn to the rock and root trowel when I need something stronger, but wish the rock and root trowel had a sharper point, like this one. This one is the one I reach for to dig weeds in the lawn or transplant flowers. Not so much for digging ivy roots in clay soil.

Perfect transplant shovel
Like all DeWitt tools, this transplant trowel is perfect! It is strong and made to last a lifetime. I have owned one for 13 years and it is still like new, which is why I purchased one as a gift for my friend. You want a long slender blade on a transplant shovel, and this one has just that. It has the perfect amount of curve and sharpness. The handle and blade are perfectly balanced for a comfortable hold. The trowel is not too heavy for a smaller or older person.

The blade has no measurement
The reviews said best ever transplant trowel with lifetime warranty so I went for the $30 price tag. The trowel is heavy. The wood handle is rough and unfinished. For this price I would liked to have the wood sanded smooth and not worry about possible splinters. Biggest complaint is it does not have the inch measurements engraved on the blade which I feel is very helpful when planting a bulb section. It might last forever but just a basic tool in the shed.

Sturdy and manageable tool!
This is a truly heavy duty work horse. We have very hard clay soil and this tool stands up to the job of digging in even the driest conditions. I recommend it. It is also very sharp, so it's not for children.

Quality garden trowel
I am very pleased with this purchase. I was worth the extra $ to have something that is made very well. Nicely balanced, sharp, and just the right size. I use it often and highly recommend. Need to get another because my husband keeps borrowing it and I can't find it!
