Amazing what the right compression can do! - I bought these a full year ago. I was suffering from plantar fasciitis pain in my right foot that affected a lot of my everyday activities. I even had to be super careful when transitioning indoors or out to make sure that I put the ball of my foot down first because if I put my heel down first and wasn't careful, that all too familiar shooting pain would go up my heel. FWIW, I am a women's 9 to 9.5 (with a thin foot but a high arch), and I sustained a mid-foot injury where wrapping was recommended by podiatrist. I measured my foot and was right on the line between M and L, so I bought a pair of the M (figuring I needed them to be tight). I figured right and these have been a lot of help and they fit in most shoes, unlike wrapping, even with "vet tape". However, perhaps due to my high arches, I cannot sleep in them but must take off at the end of the day even for comfortable relaxing in the recliner.Therefore, measure your foot and if near the limits for a size, (1) if you need compression, size down, but (2) if you need to sleep in them, size up. BTW, I chose this brand because the cuff appeared loosest of the the brands on Amazon -- Did not want to constrict my ankles. They are not LOOSE of course, but I have sport socks that make a deeper indent. If you are diabetic or have circulatory disorder, you should probably seek advice from your physician. **Q: Does this compress the top of the foot at all? I need light-medium compression for a stress fracture and am tired of using wraps.** A: Yes. I had plantar fasciitis on the right foot & my left foot was sore just below my big toe. I wore both socks & it fixed both. The snug fit compressed my feet & that's what healed my left foot too. I tried to wrap my left foot & it was too bulky to walk & wear shoes in. I bought the medium sized and they fit my size 10 feet perfectly. They feel good and I hardly notice they are there. I did have to loosen up my running shoes, but that is no big deal. I like that I can wear these with my flip flops or Chacos, even if I do feel like I am making some kind of huge fashion faux pas, because taking care of my feet always comes first. I wear them at night and don't even notice them. The only things preventing me from giving these a perfect five is that I do still continue to wake up with morning foot pain, although it is less than before. Two weeks ago, my feet hurt for a good solid ten minutes in the morning and now it is cut down by at least half and maybe more than that. Time will tell if this product helps the morning foot pain go away completely. I have a night splint that is more effective in that it makes the pain go away, but these are so much more comfortable. I also continue to have heel pain during running, the main reason why I got these. I bought a new pair of shoes from a local running store and they were the most recommended pair of shoes in the store for my foot problems. It may well be my running stride and maybe nothing will help while I am running. I did not notice that I can run farther with less pain, but I did notice that the pain subsides faster than before when I walk it off. Altogether, in the one week that I have had these socks, I notice that my recovery time has increased and my pain has decreased.
