SMITH TOOL / CHAIN BREAKERS CHAIN BREAKER B5035 B5035

A TOOL THAT REALLY WORKS!
"Gushing" is not my typical mode of reviewing products. But this tool is so spectacularly superior to the other style of chain breaker commonly sold, that gushing is appropriate. (This tool separates the chain in one operation -- which the other type on the market does not, requiring additional tools to complete the task.) I finally wore my Smith B-5035 out after 16 years, and this purchase is its cheerful replacement. Even so, the worn-out piece is sold separately, and I will order that and have two tools -- heaven forbid I should misplace one.

Great tool easy to use all you need is a crescent wrench or any wrench that fits pops the pins out fast we have 7 of these in the shop. Much better then a hammer and a punch.

easy and tough
have been using these for many years in heavy industrial applications. they are simple and work better than any other type. we use them on single and double row chains from 30 to up to 80 on the larger ones.

Doesn't make the job any easier than using a pin punch and hammer
The punch on this tool is supposed to self align over the rivets in the chain. It doesn't. And because of the way the tool is designed, if you trust it to self align, you won't see how the punch lines up to the rivets. The "indentation" in the bottom jaw is a crudely cut hole that does not center up on the punch. There is a lot of potential here to bend or freeze a link or rivet.
