Stermont's latest monster is SHOCKING! This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow!In this 8th book, there's trouble at Alexander's brand-new school. Lights are flickering, students are getting zapped, and escalators are running at super-speeds! When the sky fills with green lightning, Alexander, Rip, and Nikki know monsters must be to blame. Can the S.S.M.P. turn out the lights on these shocking monsters? Review: Great Series - This is a wonderful series of books, Well written and illustrated. Chapters are a perfect length to keep attention. Follow Alexander Bopp on a journey battling monsters in his new home town as he meets a few new friends and teams up with them to save his school and town. Each book can be standalone, but sometimes they pull from previous stories. Review: Another great Notebook of Doom story! - My second grade son loves to read and LOVES all things spooky. Although he loves to read he's been a little behind in starting reading chapter books. These are the first chapter books he's been really into. He can read them on his own, but reads them slowly and struggles with an occasional word. They are definitely age appropriate though and he is starting to get faster reading them independently. Whether he's reading them on his own or we're reading them to him, he's completely captivated by these stories. He loves the monsters and the art work throughout the book. As a parent, I enjoy the stories too. They are cute, funny stories, without any obnoxious characters or storylines. I love that my son gets so absorbed in the stories and is having so much fun reading them!

Great books for young boy readers!
My 9 year old loves these books. He has the whole collection so far. Not too scary or anything for young kids. They have a lot of cute and funny drawings throughout the book to possibly help keep kids attention that might not like to read as much. Definitely a good buy for young boy readers!

My grandson loves this series. He started reading this book the day it arrived and finished that night. He is anxiously awaiting a #9. I'm just happy there are such wonderful books available at such a reasonable price to encourage our children and, in my case, grandchildren to read.

Happy Mom
My son has read all of these books. He was finally excited about reading! Now my reluctant reader looks for the new additions coming out... Anything that gets him excited about reading is worth five stars in my book!

Highly recommend for 2nd grade boys
My second grader eats this series for breakfast! We have to force him to slow down reading these. Highly recommend if you have a 2nd grade boy who you want to get excited about reading! (Our public school library carries the series, so I know itโs not total junk too.)

My son continues to enjoy this series
My son continues to enjoy this series. I only wish the reading level was higher. On the other hand it keeps my baby reading.

My autistic daughter absolutely loves the series. As kids' books go, this series is pretty solid. My daughter loves the illustrations and the characters are fairly memorable. She carries the entire set with her whenever she gets in the car and loves to share them with her friends.

Our kids LOVE Notebook of Doom book series
We read a different Scholastic books series first and needed another good "first chapter" series with lots of pictures to keep their attention. They LOVE the characters and guessing who is the baddie and/or what could happen next. Whenever possible we use the Kindle edition and broadcast it to our TV via our Amazon Firebox (via wireless projection) so that everyone can see the text and the pictures. Unfortunately not all the books are available for Amazon Kindle, so some books we had to buy as hard paper and we are running out of space in our bookshelves as we have sooo many books, so we prefer electronic copies. Electronic copies also allow us to share it onto their Amazon Fire tablets for kids. Again, LOVED by all of our kids and we have different ages and grasp of the world. It has gone so far, that our boys have us print out the monsters, trace them and then colour them in!
