Operator intelligence ........
Very informative! I did not know what I didn't know abbout drones until I read this. Let's face it--The more knowledgeable the pilot, the better the pilot. 👩✈️

Solid Introduction
Good solid introduction to operating a drone. The book presumes your going to use a ready to fly package so it doesn't go into how to piece together various components but covers the basics well.

Very informational
I bought this as a Christmas gift for a friend who plans on getting a drone when he retires. He said it was very helpful and he learned a lot.

Not for anyone who seriously considers to get into drones
I read quite a few "For dummies" books and unfortunately this has been one of the most disappointing ones.I expected that after reading the book I would have a basic understanding on how a drone works, an insight on its components, dynamics and the general knowledge on how to operate a drone at a basic level or maybe even how to proceed in case I would like to build my own.Unfortunately I found none of the above. What was most irritating is how little there is actually on drones. Most of the book is about how to shop or behave on the internet, basic and watered down introductions on related consumer electronics (cameras, editing software etc..) and somewhat product specific reviews that (naturally) are already outdated. All this might be useful advice to anyone who is a dummy about most of contemporary consumer electronics, yet it should not become the main point of a volume that is supposed to speak about drones. Each section starts with way too long introductions, which seam to have the only function to add text.Once all such "bloatware" we are left with about 30% of drone specific text, which is mainly an edited extract from various user manuals, as the book only speaks about ready-to-fly platforms, basically becoming a purchasing guide for products that are already outdated. The same obsolescence issue affects the legal section: it should be updated ASAP, as with recent regulation changes readers might get into trouble. The book often tells you about what you should pay attention to, without actually telling you how you are supposed to do it.Is it all bad? Off course it isn't! Among all the bloatware, incorrect phrases ("such as high rate of speed" to indicate speed) and repetitions there is plenty of good advice for starters, especially in the safety section. Nevertheless when purchasing a book I expect to receive more structured information than what I can receive by a 10 min. google search. Personally I found more and better structured information on http://myfirstdrone.com/ than in this volume.

out dated but till has merit
Though file with tons o good info on basic drone flying/info. It is very dated though, looking over it now, so would only recommend if it was the very first exposure to drones. Even then, you can find much more current.

Tattered Edges
The company sent this item promptly however there were a few tattered edges on this new book which was a disappointment.

Easy read, easy to follow
Easy read, easy to follow, wealth of information. Mark LaFay does an excellent job of explaining how drones work. A reference book for any Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS/Drone) Operator! I have highlight and tabbed the book if that tells you anything!

Too Basic
I have three problems with this book:1:The problem with any book like this is that as soon as it is published it's out of date. Although Drones for Dummies is not too bad technology even in the hobby drone sector has moved on which makes to shelf life of this book very small.2: Because there are so many drones/quads on the market any information given in the book is very basic - so we have information types of camera, basic flying, basic maintenance, what photographic/video software to use, none of it goes in-depth and none of it will help you fly your drone or edit your footage. In the end you can get more information from watching a YouTube video. book.3. The sections that could have been better such as flying a drones/ the law the book is very US centred with the UK/Other countries getting a few lines. There are also subjects not really covered such as privacy.I'd only recommend this book if you could 'put your hand on your heart' and say you know nothing about drones at all then it will give you the basics. If you own a quad the you will know most, if not everything, in this book.
