Product Material is polyurethane. This units does not have any fire retardants chemicals added to it. If you would like to customize this unit please send us a message before any purchase. This product has a compression rating of 44 lbs. Compression means the number of pounds necessary to compress the piece of foam by 1 inch in a 7x7 inch area. For example, if you put 44 lbs in a 7x7 inch area, the foam will compress 1 inch. Many mistakenly take high density foams as firmer foams but that is not the case. A foam that is 44 ILD in a medium and high density will feel the same. Density is the lifespan of the foam, the higher the density the more material is used to make the foam hence making it last longer. ****Disclaimers**** Many advertise their 1.8 density foam as high density which is false advertisement. Worked great. In terms of back cushions, it depends on the couch. Just make sure it isn't too thick. The rest may be tmi, but it may help. The foam should be one inch bigger than the measurement from edge seam to edge seam. For example my couch cushions were 22in long by 23in wide by 5in deep so I cut the foam inton23in long by 24in wide by 6in deep squares. **Q: Would not the 5 inch thick foam need to be more dense than the 3 inch foam, to be able to have the same compression rate?** A: No, density is the life span of the foam while compression rating/ILD is the firmness or softness. When a foam has a density level its per cubic foot so a 3 inch and 5 inch can have the same density level and have the same firmness level **Q: I need 4 pieces but height need to be 12” not 6” would be Able to make them?** A: Dear Buyer. We are able to cut 12 inch foams but not in the 72 inch length. These units are compressed in a box and compressing a 12 inch foam with that length will ruin the compression rating making it soft. He no longer feels safe jumping up on my bed and had difficulty jumping down because his back legs/hip area are athritic. My vet has prescribed meds for him, however, his bad experiences with jumping up on furniture means he prefers to sleep on the floor. I have other cats, and so I have a few cat beds. What I wanted was one that he could share with his buddy, who is about the same age. They cuddle up together now on the bed. Here's how I made the bed.I purchased the foam, then unwrapped it for a few days to "breathe" and then I folded it in half, made a pillowcasing out of an old sheet and a few seams later I had a slipcover for it. Then I wrapped a soft polyester throw over that. I am planning to shop for soft fake fur similar to their other cat beds, to make a pillowcasing. I don't like using zippers so I will sew on some large snaps (purchased on Amazon and used for lots of other things) so that I can easily take it off to wash.d I am very happy with the quality of the foam. The cats are about 13 lb each and while they snuggle onto the bed, they don't sink into it. Just the right amount of firmness. I can also sit comfortably on this bed.In the meantime, both cats are happily snuggled up on the cat bed. The bed fits nicely in the corner of our bedroom where we will not stumble over it. It's as comfortable as it's sister cart that still has the original foam that's still in good shape. Would absolutely buy again. Perfect firmness and thickness for a seat in my opinion. So, we had to find a way to raise the sofa and loveseat cushions to be able to sit and get up comfortably. We tried 6 ways from Sunday, w/ pillows, wood and other creative avenues, but to no avail!Then I saw a video from a woman who used the foam to replace her dogs' sofa cushions, cutting it w/ an electric knife. Genius!!
