The Illustrated I Ching

Hello there I Ching readers and divination enthusiasts!For literally YEARS, I was looking for a book written on I Ching to purchase for my own use. What I found were either bible-long dissertations written in a forced vernacular or a whimsically worded coffee-table treat for the parlor crowd. I wanted something to inform me about the history and philosophy of I Ching, how to read the coins/yarrow sticks, & info about the trigrams but not need a PHD in Chinese divination to do so.The Illustrated I Ching is perfect! It is an accessible read as well as being a well-rounded intro into the depth of the I Ching. Written by R. L. Wing AND NO LONGER PUBLISHED (so get a copy now,) this book has companion illustrations/paintings accompanying each hexagram. This makes the philosophical element which differs so very greatly from Eastern to Western thought, more understandable to Westerners. (Yes we differ THAT much.)Another thing I LOVE about this book -vs- others is the segment in the back of the book on Changing Lines.Q: Already Love Binary code, Divination, Quantum Physics, Chinese Philosophy &/OR the I Ching?A: This is the book for YOU!

I used my first copy of this book (purchased in 1982 I believe) so much that it literally fell apart at the seams. I am so happy to be able to replace it. This is my very favorite I Ching book of all the many I own! Thank you!

I just bought my third copy of this book, and I had better keep it in good shape, as I see that it is now out of print. You simply can't get a better guide to the I Ching than this. Beautiful black and white illustrations for each hexagram with a complete and enlightening text as well. If you have tried to wade through other books on the subject and were having a hard time, you will love this one. The I Ching is sometimes mysterious, sometimes eerily accurate, but always provides food for thought. Get a copy before they're all gone (but save one for me, just in case).

helps me out with my daily life alot, great for objective advise as well as accepting the events of your life and living closest to the natural way. worth every penny

nice introduction, easy to learn how to use. very insightful. I like how the entries include pictures that make you consider what you're about to read, before you read it. Haven't used any other version so dont know how it compares, but I am happy with the purchase and plan on never selling this book.

I had a copy of this book years ago, and was thrilled to find it on amazon, but the publishers have shrunk down the dimensions of the book itself, and the printing quality of the chinese art illustrating each hexagram is very crappy compared to my earlier version. This was definitely not the blast from the past I was expecting.

The clarity, accuracy & relevence of the advice given is almost scary (as long as your question is clear & relevant to what's on your mind while you're asking it) & this book has come to feel like a sort of companion. However, it isn't meant to make decisions for you, or hold your hand through life & if you attempt to consult the I-Ching over 3x/day or you ask the same questions over & over hoping for a different response-- it will call you out on it, in some way or another.

I have studied several I Ching authors and find each have a slightly different vision. Finding R. L. Wing's one of the most practical for daily matters of living. This copy with artistry adds a new angle to interpretation and divination. I enjoy it approach.

Really interesting just as a read but to put it into action is a journey. It was recommended by a friend and is everything she said it was. The book was bought as "used" but its condition is so good I doubt if it was opened very often. I'm really looking forward to using it as a tool. The artwork is really interesting too.

I am very pleased with my purchase, it arrived promptly and it is in fantastic condition for a book which I could only buy used. Readings are very helpful and the whole process broken down easily for newbies. If you don't have this in your library you are missing out.

Great introduction and wonderful insight into the imagery of China. Highly recommended as a start off for anyone interested in the I Ching.

This is a great book for anyone interested in the I Ching. I would say this is probably a beginners book but it also has great depth. A clear explanation of how to use the coin method of divination and how to interpret the hexagrams. I love the way the author has made the I ching accessible and that there are paintings with each hexagram to aid the reader with the right interpretation. I highly recommend this book!
