Review: Wonderful arc control - These tungsten were pretty good. They aren't the best when it comes to dipping the tungsten but they are good enough in that aspect to make me want to keep using them with their great arc control. They have such a steady arc when on stainless that there is really no alternative to red tungsten. Definitely goes great with a large 12+ size cup when on stainless, but I cant understate how great red tungsten works.
Review: Excellent and the price was very reasonable - it arrived really quick. I used it as soon as it came, and I can tell you for certain that it is a good product. I stuck it in the puddle couple times by mistake and it did not go dull at all. I recommend 100%

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does thoriated tungsten require precautions due to its thorium content?**
A: Thorium oxide is a low level radioactive material which has a minuscule external radiation hazard and a small internal hazard from ingestion or inhalation. There is almost no release of radioactive material during arcing, so the only real issue is during preparation / grinding. We recommend the use of a dedicated grindstone on a grinder that has dust extraction capabilities.  As with any tungsten grinding we also recommend the use of a simple filter mask and eye protection. 

Past that, we offer free samples of non-radioactive options that might be worth testing in any current welding application currently using Thoriated tungsten.

**Q: "Are they as stiff or springy as piano wire? I want to make a wing wire for my r/c Race car"**
A: All tungsten electrodes are very hard and stiff. They do not bend without a lot of heat, they just break. It does however take a lot of effort to break them. Hope this helps.

These tungsten were pretty good. They aren't the best when it comes to dipping the tungsten but they are good enough in that aspect to make me want to keep using them with their great arc control. Definitely goes great with a large 12+ size cup when on stainless, but I cant understate how great red tungsten works.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely contain Thorium and are very slightly radioactive

I purchased this not for welding, but for calibrating my Radiacode 103 gamma spectrometer. These definitely output gamma rays consistent with the Thorium decay chain, however the signal is very weak. The reason for this is that most is reabsorbed in the tungsten material, so you only get a signal from Thorium that is near the surface of the rods. It works very well, you just need to place them near the radiacode for a long time (many hours) to collect a sufficiently strong signal.
