Otis Technology Tactical Cleaning Kit

While the kit may not come with everything you need to keep your firearms in pristine condition, the gear it does come with and the package itself are outstanding! It may not fit the bill if you're looking for the ultimate cleaning kit, but if you want a durable, versatile kit that you can use at home, on the range, or wherever your travels take you Otis has the answer! So much in such a small package: + Brushes and Brass Tips for most common calibers. I've personally used on .22lr, 9mm., .40, 5.56mm, 7.62mm, .30-06, and 12 gauge. Keep in mind, since there are only 3 slotted tips it isn't perfect for everything. + Incredible Cleaning Patches for small caliber and large caliber. These patches are the best I've ever used. I just wish the kit came with more of them! + Though the Memory-Flex cleaning rods aren't the right tool all of the time, I greatly prefer them over the typical rigid/segmented cleaning rods. Even if I end up using a brush or tip from another kit I end up using the Memory-Flex cleaning rods when I can. + Well packaged, well organized. Easy to pick up and go! + The Flag Safety doubles as a decent Bore Reflector. It's hard to find cons, but there's always room for improvement: - The kit is really only good for cleaning the bore since there are no brushes, scrapers, etc. for cleaning the other parts of firearms. However, with a little ingenuity one could fit a some extra tools in the kit. - The limited number of Slotted Tips means you won't have a perfect fit for every caliber. - The provided bottle of Cleaning Solvent is not refillable, so once you run out if you want to carry more in the pouch you'll have to find a similarly sized bottle to replace it.

I purchased this to replace an old aluminum rod kit that was pretty lame and left me uneasy about scraping the polygonal bore of my HK's and didn't really have any additional accessories beyond the absolute basics. When I read the description and reviews here and on the Otis website it seemed like the product couldn't live up to the hype - I was wrong. This is a fantastic kit that fills every current need, and, from what I can tell, will fulfill all my needs as I purchase additional toys in the future. This compact, yet well-stocked, kit offers a wide array of quality tools for the job and I honestly cannot think of any additional accessory that I would need for cleaning. I am amazed at how much stuff they could fit in a pouch that will fit on a belt or pack easily into any gun bag. I particularly like the cleaning patches that are large enough and reversible so they can be used for multiple passes down the bore (FYI - I bought an extra tub of patches based on another reviewer's comment about the number contained in the initial pack being somewhat limited and recommend you do the same - just a thought). I also combined a 3-pack of the Otis brushes into my purchase for the slide, rails, etc. so I am as ready to rock as I'll ever be. Highly recommended!

The otis cable based cleaning kits are head and shoulders above any rod-based cleaning kit out there. Ideally, guns should be cleaned moving the patch smoothly from the chamber to the muzzle, which is impossible to do to some guns using a cleaning rod. The otis kits make it easy to draw the patch through the barrel smoothly and cleanly without any risk whatsoever that the metal cleaning jag with scrape against the bore. The jag is always safely surrounded by the soft cotton patch. This is of course not the case with a rod based cleaning set. When using a cleaning rod, it's very easy to get the patch stuck or have the patch shift to one side of the jag so the jag is being dragged against the bore. This of course can be very damaging to your bore, which is completely unacceptable, especially when you are a cleaning a delicate or expensive firearm you are attempting to preserve. When you pull the otis cable through the bore, as long as you use a properly sized patch, the pull is always very smooth. The patch always shields the bore from the metal jag and does an excellent job of cleaning all sides of the bore simultaneously. With a cleaning rod, sometimes the patch is scrubbing the top of the bore, sometimes its wiggling around and loosely scrubbing the sides. There is no tight, consistent seal on all sides of the bore. The patches that come with the kit are made from excellent, heavy cotton. I don't like bothering to buy replacement patches, but that's ok since it's very easy to make replaceement patches from old pairs of underwear. You just cut rough circles using an otis patch as a pattern, and then poke one or two of the necessary holes with a pair of scissors. If you buy this kit not only will your guns be significantly cleaner in less time, you will never again have to listen the grating sound of a metal rod scraping down your bore. To a collector who loves his guns that sound can be like torture!

This is an excellent cleaning kit for most common applications. Everything you need, and packs up nice in a small kit about the size of a large tuna can that you can easily add to your gear/pack. Everything is brass, and the cable is plastic coated, so there is no worry about damaging your bore/muzzle. Highly recommend for military guys, you can throw this in your vest/patrol bag no problem and it will clean pretty much any weapon system below .50 cal. The case seems very durable and has a bombproof zipper. Much better than issued cleaning kits. I like to add points to improve on with reviews so here goes: - Doesnt have a chamber brush so you might want to add that. - Comes with only a few patches and tiny oil tube - Could use a toothbrush or some kind of general purpose brush Overall, I can't imagine a better system than this.

If this kit was priced at £20.00 - £25.00, it wouldn't be so bad. At £55.00, it's way too expensive in my opinion. The patches are too fiddly to set up, having to fold them in different places to suit each calibre you want to clean. and the replacement Otis patches, which you can buy separately, are very pricey too. When all is said and done, I could not recommend this kit at this price.

I feel it is probably the worst thing I have ever bought, it looks like something from a toy set (other than the brushes are sharp). Very small and fiddly, back to my reliable cleaning rods, full size brushes and a job properly done.
