FRCS Section 1 General Surgery: Practice Questions : Roland Fernandes: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Ok - Intermediate question, not satisfactory explanation or no explanation at all in some Good print Not on the top of recommendation Review: Multiple errors - would suggest you avoid - When you're coming up to the exam you just want to know if what you know is right, rather than facing a crisis every time this book tells you something which is not in line with national or associate guidance, or even common sense. The answers are frankly incorrect in many instances. This book is littered with factual, clinical, spelling and grammar errors. Clearly has not been proof read. If you're after some extra questions because you've used all the better resources perhaps worth a purchase but I must emphasise the questions are confusing and poorly written. Bares no relevance to the actual exam. The trauma section was not even written but those who have succeeded in the exam. Suggest you don't waste your time.

Worth buying for the syllabus coverage
This book is good to do as a quick look through. Some of the answers are wrong and not in keeping with other books on the market. The best bit is the way they have covered every aspect of the syllabus but the questioning style is quite convoluted. Also in the extended matching qs don’t have the answers so you have to constantly flip back and forth to see if you got it right. Worth buying but don’t do it first.

Disappointing
Lots of errors and poorly edited. Other books are better

FRCS 1
This book helped me in passing FRCS part 1 in first attempt. The Upper GI , Bariatric and HPB sections cover the syllabus really well. I recommend this book alongwith the other question banks.

Covering core ISCP curriculum topics
Excellent resource for studying for the FRCS part 1. It covers core subjects as per curriculum with good pictorial questions. A good addition to the online resources!

Excellent book
The exam is a fairly easy exam to fail especially if you overthink the answers. There are no repeat questions but I would recommend doing as many questions as you can in prep. This book was useful esp the UGI and HPB chapters, which was my weak point last time. The questions were similar with regard to gallstone management. I would recommend this book and its well worth the money. It also has chapters which are in the syllabus but not covered by the pastest and onexamination online questions.

Wide coverage, excellent adjunct for FRCS section 1 studies
Having just passed my FRCS section 1 first time, I found this book a useful resource as it covers the core themes in the exam and additional areas that are not covered in the online banks or the other books such as Bariatrics. Excellent photographs especially in the chapter on skin lesions. The only negatives are that some of the formatting could be more consistent and does vary between some chapters, and a minority of the questions don’t have explanations. overall a good range of the syllabus was covered by this book. I feel that this worked well as an adjunct to the other books and online question banks and this worked well for me.
