Look no further...the protecive helmt you have dreamed about
There are many helmets with built in ear protection but regardless of the brand they are all the same cheap uncomfortable helmets that are likely more dangerous to use while operating a saw than not wearing one. They are distracting and annoying. I got tired of the crap being offered by the big saw brands so I did a little research and came across PFanner, a European brand. The helmet looks like a hockey helmet and less like a typical hardhat but don't let that fool you. It is a serious piece of protective equipment that has been thoughtfully designed to be the best helmet for tree work or any work using large pieces of pwer equipment like chippers, weed whippers, saws, and more. The mesh shield is thick and resistent to denting like cheap alternatives. It stays up when lifted, The ear protection is fantastic and it too can be flipped out of the way and it will remain out of the way until we want it back in action. The helmet is balanced so when you look down or up it moves with you and never slides up or down blocking your vision. It is breathable to very comfortable to wear for long periods of time on hot humid days. When you see a tree felling crew this is often the helmet you will see them wearing. It is Pro designed and Pro quality and it will become one of you most favorite pieces of equipment. It is worth every dollar more you will pay compared to the cheap near toy like goods being offered by others. Your ears, hair, head, and eyes will thank me later!

Comfortable and convenient
This is my first real safety helmet. Previously I used separate hearing and vision protection, and while they worked, multiple separate pieces made it possible to forget things. The helmet fit is highly adjustable, and AFAICT, replacement pieces are readily available. It's lightweight while still feeling solid. Fitting is like a high end bike helmet, and I really like the lever closure at the back of the helmet. When it's shut, the helmet stays in place without needing to use the chin strap. The cans are effective at reducing noise, and the mesh screen doesn't affect my vision at all. The helmet breathes reasonably well. There is a vent you can open/close, but I'm not sure it makes much difference in how it ventilates. All in all, it's comfortable, which means I'll use it more. Which makes it a better piece of safety gear. Yes, it's pricey, but when I looked at other systems with the same configuration, it wasn't out of line.

Very good facial protection.
There are times when I need to cut limbs with my chain saws overhead for trimming. Then the wood chips would rain down on me and get into my eyes and down the neck of my shirt. However, I find myself using this arborist helmet even more for weed whacking than for chain saw use. In the fall I have about 100 feet of Hosta plants to cut down so they’ll bloom in the spring better without being smothered by the previous year’s dead foliage. While performing this task, I would get hit in the face with the foliage and wore safety glasses, but the residue would still hit me in the face and neck which could be quite painful, especially if a small rock was thrown at me. The face shield is made of some kind of plastic and provides complete facial protection. The earmuffs are very effective in reducing the engine noise and can be pulled slightly away from your ears locking them into place about a half an inch to engage in conversation when needed. I wear a 6 7/8 hat and this helmet fits me very well at its smallest setting. When the earmuffs are placed over the ears, the helmet becomes even more secured, and won’t fall off looking down from an elevated position even without using the chin strap. I found it to be overpriced, but it’s a well-fitting, good-looking design and a practical helmet.

Why get anything less?
Should be half the price for what you get, but worth the money for what it does and would be a mistake to sacrifice on purchasing due to being overpriced because this is essential equipment - meaning, it protects the brain, hearing, and vision something you just can't compromise on. Convenience of being able to push the earmuffs backward is a huge reason to get this, so that you leave helmet on when you need to talk. Sometimes I find myself removing the helmet to talk despite that feature, because tucking it away doesn't always move smoothly. Initial adjustment was embarrassingly time consuming, so I eventually put away the owner's manual in favor of YouTube videos that explained it much better. A big problem, for me, was the feeling that I could break the connectors if I improperly adjusted it, in particular the chin strap connection moves a certain way and I do believe that if you forced it out of frustration in the wrong way, then you will have costly regrets. Though the bag is nice, save the box and transport it in the box because it will roll around in your vehicle otherwise. I got two-tone orange and grey because that is what was available but would have bought full orange if it were offered because I intend to be sawing logs during hunting season. Considering this is something that will last a long time, this is one item I would not skimp on for competing product, it's the best that I know of.

Quality, everything I expected.
Pricey but excellent quality. unlike some of the other reviews I thought the setup easy, took about ten minutes to get the fit where I needed it, only two adjustments, circumference and depth. I like the flip retention lock seems more positive then the twist knob on the other helmets. Another feature I like are the earmuffs, they look like a robust design also they tuck into the inside of the helmet as opposed to the outside. I'm using the helmet on the ground running a weedeater so I removed the chin strap as I didn't feel it was necessary, that may change I use it more. Also like the fact its not made in China. The service life is listed as five years but I think I can get more as this will not see daily use, maybe a week a month in the spring and summer. I like the futuristic design, my wife said she thought it looked like it was from the movie TRON.

Every day, all day, no worries!
What would I do without my Protos!! This thing is amazing. As an arborist it is my number 1 go-to piece of equipment. Wear it every day all day and no worries. No complaints. Its awesome. Buy it.

Pricey perfection
Very well made & engineered. Easy to use and wear - which will help ensure you actually wear it. See YouTube for a very sobering video, with a wearer getting up off the ground after a direct hit: "This here helmet just saved my life, y'all!" Sound protection could be improved, but it's adequate. Expensive compared to other brands. But valuable usability features.

Excellent helmet, although improvements could be made
As a whole, I am pleased with the helmet. The quality is good, the ear protection is excellent, the shield works quite well, and the overall fit once adjusted is also very good. The only reason I gave the helmet 4 vs. 5 stars on the overall rating and value for the money rating is because initial fitment adjustment is VERY time consuming and awkward - do not plan to take the helmet out of the box, easily adjust a strap or turn a dial, and get to work. Also, and having a larger head, I do not think the helmet will accommodate head / hat sizes over 7 7/8. All of that said, and once the helmet is properly adjusted, it fits well, has good air flow, is comfortable and light weight, and the built-in ear and eye protection both work well. It is a good product and most definitely adds a sense of security when limbing and felling.
