Its considered a wise saying ... may not be exclusively a military sandbox style quotation. But the arm design and chest do give it a subtle nuance toward the ruggedness of mind. There is a flag on the right sleeve. What is on the left sleeve? It would be beneficial for first time buyers to have views of all sides/decals.

My husband has dad bod. Should I get this a size up since he doesnt like his shirts to cling to him?

My husband is 5'8" 180 lbs and has a dad bod (despite not being a dad) and the medium shirt fits him perfectly, not baggy or super tight, just what he needed for working in a kitchen. I would recommend a large if your husband wants more of a loose relaxed fit. The fabric is super soft and has stretch to it as well.
