By taking advantage of the benefits of traditional plastic gardening containers while eliminating the shortcomings, Smart Pots truly live up to their name! These soft growing containers allow more air to reach the growing medium and roots, improving drainage and keeping the root system from overheating on hot days. Plant roots also benefit from their natural tendency to grow into soft surfaces like the Smart Pot, becoming thick and healthy instead of circling the inside of the pot and becoming root-bound.

Smart Pot #3, 10 Inch - 3 Gallon Container - 5 Pack
These are too good to be true. I cannot say enough good things about Smart Pots. I like the ones with the handles when you buy 10 gallon or above. They are really good for occasional gardeners (your family and friends) that want to grow a tomato and pepper on the patio. They can empty, fold, and use next year.I have several Citrus Trees (Lemons and Limes) in Smart Pots. There is such a difference in health of the trees, amount and size of the fruits growing in the Smart Bags. They breath and they drain so good. It keeps the roots pruned. Citrus Tree Roots have a tendency to girdling (prevents it).Smart Pots don't get hot like plastic or clay and the plants seem to maintain just the right moisture. The tomatoes and peppers are amazing grown in these pots. The big pots are so much easier to move than other types of pots. I will be trying the Smart Pots Raised Bed. They were developed after 15 years of research at Oklahoma State University.I haven't had a problem with black widow spiders taking up residence in these pots. No insects enter through the bottom of the Smart Pot container (nasty little Rollie Pollie's and snails). About the only reason bugs come in your house are for water. Insects are automatically drawn to garden pots. I have given up on spider spray (makes me ill and it is expensive). I use bathroom foam cleaner to kill black widows (and it is easy to see their nests and eggs when you foam them). Black Widows love love garden pots (they eat their catch live). For that reason alone Smart Pots are marvelous.

Holding up to spring!
These seem a little flimsy, but I think they are supposed to be thin so roots can air prune. I was worried about putting them outdoors, but they have been outside for some pretty horrible weather and still look new. I’m buying more for some indoor plants!

Looks perfect for my needs
Shipping was quick and items were exactly as described. Way too soon to know how my plants will flourish but: I spend 1/2 my year in two very different places and take mint, Rosemary and a few annuals back and forth. Cloth pots will make the 10 & 15 gal containers weigh less. They should also prevent the need to repot as i shouldn't have a problem with roots becoming too rootbound. Further, I have limited sunny areas and these will give me freedom to place my plants where they need to go to take advantage of the sun. The pots planted easily, it was better than regular pots for knowing I didn't leave air pockets around the roots and to make sure they were well watered-in. None of my transplants suffered any wilt at all. Very pleased so far. Real test is about 2 years away.

Not as great as I had hoped
After reading countless glowing reviews on these fabric pots, I decided to try them. I guess I am one of the few people who just aren't crazy about them. For my purposes, anyway I found them to be unattractive and unwieldy. They are difficult to move around (I have tried the ones with handles as well and they are not much better) and you have to be careful where you put them down because they stay damp on the bottom. Best to use inside a garden for plants that need a LOT of drainage and aeration. It is very hot and humid where I live and I had to water these every day, PLUS they grew mold on the outside. Plastic pots, although heavier, hold water longer and are easier to move. I did repot a plant started in one of these and found it very difficult to remove as well compared to one started in a plastic pot. Just did not live up to all the hype for me and I would not buy them again.

Too dry
These are perfect if you live in a humid area. However, if your humidity is below about 50%, the root mass stays too small and doesn't even begin to go near the edges for air pruning. If you live in Florida or are prone to overwatering, these are fantastic. For all other uses, I feel like Smart Parts are overrated. I've since switched to EarthBoxes with the aeration screen under the soil and facing the water reservoir, and am getting MUCH better results.Recommended for high humidity areas (>70%) or folks who love to overwater ONLY. In other uses, they have done more harm than good, and I will be giving the rest of these away.

Well made, quality product!
I bought these for some tomatoes, roses and various herbs as they were highly recommended. When I first got them I was surprised at how simple the construction is, it's basically just a felt fabric sewn in the shape of a pot, there are two pieces sewn together, the cylinder and the round bottom. It would probably be less expensive to buy the fabric and sew these yourself, but that would require a pretty heavy duty sewing machine or a lot of patience (and tired hands), so considering they are actually a very high quality product, I am happy with them.

Who knew a pot could be revolutionary?
I really like these pots. Plants seem to grow really well in them. Since they are very pourous if you intend to use them inside be sure to have a tray underneath to catch excess water. Also since these pots have excellent airflow I have found that I need to water more often than a traditional pot. I have read the case studies on the benefits of the root development these Smart Pots give. Overall I am pretty satisfied, I would reccomend getting the pots they sell with handles.

Like a Jack and the Beanstalk kit
Arrives looking like a cheap rag. Fill it with soil, water well, and you have an incredible growth-promoting pot for food crops, flowers, or trees. The color and aeration encourage root growth. My yard has enough wind and shade to discourage vegetable growth in particular. This is like a Jack and the Beanstalk kit! This pot created visual growth daily. Remarkable! If you want to start a tree fast, plant in the Smart Pot set on soil. It will grow quickly and then root in the soil.Must endorse the Smart Pot heartily.
