The Holocaust: Told like not other read
The book Timelines -the Holocaust is an excellent book to read for those who are really wants to dig deep into the topic of the Holocaust. It gives very detailed facts and uses excellent photographs to give added information to this fact filled book. I recommend this book to anyone who is wants to learn everything about the Holocaust. The book begins on August 28, 1903 with the book Protocols of the elders of Zion being published. This book told of how a group of Jews were planning to take over the world. It became very popular in Germany where they wanted to blame the Jews for their loss in WWI. The book was actually not even true. On January 3, 1933, Hitler comes into the picture by being the leader of the Nazi Party. He promised to make Germany strong again and spoke about how Germans were pure and others were not. He became the chancellor of Germany. He later became dictator of Germany. On September 15, 1935, the Nuremburg Laws were posted. The Swastika became the flag of Germany. They defined who a Jew was based on family or religion. Jews began to leave Germany but other countries sometimes refused to allow them in. The SS organization was also formed. On November 9th and 10th, 1938 “The Night of the Broken Glass” incident happened. A synagogue was attacked. 90 Jews were killed this night. Soon 20,000 Jews were rounded up and sent to concentration camps. On June 22, 1941 the Nazis invade the Soviet Union. Over a million Jews had fled Germany and the ones in the Soviet Union found themselves at the mercy of the Nazis. The Holocaust begins here with the organized killing of the Jews. On December 8, 1941 the first death camp starts operating. From March 1942 the book discusses the camps that the Jews were sent to. When Germany invades the Soviet Union, and it does not go well, uprisings begin in the ghettos. After this the ghettos are emptied and thousands of Jews are taken away and killed. In 1944 the famous Anne Frank is betrayed and dies at Bergen-Belsen. In 1945 Auschwitz is liberated after about 1.25 million people were murdered there. From the year 2000 on there have been many people who denied that the Holocaust existed, but have lost when their cases have been brought to court trying to prove it did not happen. I have read many other nonfiction books, but this one has been the best because of the exact timeline that the book shows. There are many detailed facts that are not always found in books on the Holocaust. The book also has many photographs that go along with the timeline so you can see what the book is talking about while you read. Some of the photographs are actually things you would rather not see, but they do make us understand how terrible the Holocaust actually was. I really did enjoy this book. When I first started reading it, I thought it was going to be too much information, but as I read it the real story of the Holocaust became clear to me. When people think of the Holocaust, they usually think of murder and torture, but the real story of how it all happened is very interesting. The author does a good job combining all the facts with a timeline for each period and great photographs to go along with the book. Hopefully as you read this story and how it all happened, we can learn how to never let this repeat itself. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the Holocaust.

Valuable Recounting of Little Known Experiences
This is a collection of Holocaust Experiences of survivors from the Former Soviet Union which should be required reading for every person who wants a more complete picture of the direct effects of the Nazi conquest during World War II.The little known and sparsely document experiences of Jews from the Former Soviet Union may have been forgotten earlier without this valuable compilation of testimony from survivors. There is no question that these survivors endured the direct consequences of the Holocaust and often suffer the effects of the horrors to this day. This book needs to be noticed.

THE HOLOCAUST (HOW DID IT HAPPEN SERIES)
The "How Did It Happen?" series provides a straightforward guide to major turning points in modern history, and includes quotations from speeches, letters, diaries, contemporary photographs, personal quotes, and opinions from various historians. It also includes a glossary, chronology, bibliography and index. As the publisher has previously published thoughtful, reflective, comprehensive histories of the Holocaust, it is certainly their right to draw from these, simplifying and shortening the text without distorting it. In other words, this is a respectable summary of the Holocaust with large photographs and reduced text--rather like a historical "Cliff's Notes" of the Holocaust. Ages 10 and up.
