the team is reconstructed again
I really liked the first volume of Birds of Prey but felt that the second volume went off the rails too much. Now, I’m torn over this third volume. It is better than the second volume, but it also shakes up the team...again.The book opens with the fantastic Batgirl Annual #1, where she unexpectedly teams up with Catwoman for the introduction of a new character (someone’s gotta replace Poison Ivy, right?). Not only was the story action-packed, but the artist totally blew me away. I loved the hyper-realistic style. Unfortunately, it doesn’t continue through the volume when it switches back to the Birds of Prey series. But after reading this piece, I will definitely be starting the Batgirl solo series. The second part of the story provides an exit point for Katana, who is getting her own solo series from DC, and the introduction of another new character. I like Katana and will follow her to the new series, but I’m also unhappy that the Birds are losing another member just after the team started to gel. This section was a simple, uninspired story, but it did have some good action sequences. I’ll miss Katana on the team, but will be glad to *hopefully* see the gloves pulled off so she can let loose with the violence more suitable to the character. The last section brings the two new characters into the fold while bringing back a tie to the series-spanning Basilisk storyline. The biggest point of this section seemed to be to show that Canary is losing control of her power. While I do want to know more about her character, I’m not thrilled about the prospect of the team leader falling apart when the team already has so many issues.Overall, I’m still hooked on the Birds, but I really hope that the writers/DC give the shake-up nonsense a rest. Let this team stick together for a few volumes, build a little trust and, hey, even resolve the Basilisk story arc with them. Recommended.

Different...but interesting
If they would keep a static lineup it might make it easier to like. Katana leaving is actually a good thing since she really doesn't bring much to table in this line up. Recruiting a Talon actually seemed like it would be interesting but suddenly when she started fighting on the side of angels she seemed less powerful?? Lets get with the program here.

Fair To Middling
Not nearly as good as the previous two volumes (the inclusion of Poison Ivy as a member is definitely missed), Birds of Prey Vol. 3 is a lacklustre effort at best. It starts off with a bang from Batgirl Annual 1, a terrific team-up with Catwoman that features a new BofP team member: Strix originally one of the Talons. It is by far the best Batgirl story since her New 52 reintroduction and the art is breathtaking. Unfortunately, it's pretty much downhill from there with a rather ho-hum "Katana loses her sword" adventure and the debut of the Condor (picture Hawk of Hawk & Dove minus any personality or interesting traits). I'm looking forward to Katana's own series to give this intriguing character a proper spotlight.

Wonderful
Set aside all your preconceptions and get ready for hero story telling at it's best. The art and story hold up the best traditions of even the most picky fan.

WARNING SPOILERS
WARNING SPOILERS: This was mostly a Katana story. if you didn't know Katana joins Justice League of America after this volume, so I felt the creative team was told tell a Katana story and then find a way to write her off the team, and I think it may not have been full developed and wasn't as good as it could have been. Another problem I had with this volume was that they tease telling Black Canary story again, but don't really go into it.

Not a favorite
The ‘mind control’ plot was really good; there was so much to talk about. And the arc of Poison Ivy on the last volume was awesome. The new plot isn’t so interesting. Or maybe it’s because the development is poor, and I missed Poison Ivy. But I still like the group, no so much the new member.I want to read the next one anyway.

Makes up for Vol. 2.
The art is gorgeous throughout. The story is stronger and much less scattered than Vol 2 and, as usual, the characters bring life to the story. Catwoman makes an appearance and is fantastic! Lots of amusing moments in this one, as well as some surprisingly heartfelt ones. And two new additions to the team, one in particular who promises to be interesting.

Amazing imaginations.
I always enjoy new 52 editions and I had every faith that birds of prey would become another new 52 success. I enjoyed the owl assasin role, forming an alliance with the birds.
