Only tinder I bother to pack
I've done all the tricks, they all work but have drawbacks. This is simple, high surface area, and lights quickly with appropriate heat. Note: for cooler spark of actual flint with steel you'll still want charcloth to catch that spark. Would likely be difficult, as usual, but probably would ignite given the patience. Plenty in the bag to practice but you can always get a larger pack they add no weight and can take as many as you wish

These make it easy to start a fire in any condition.
These also fit nicely inside the storage compartment of an EXOTAC ferro rod. Great repeatability for starting fires, fluff it out a bit and throw some sparks at it. Viola, you have fire.

Takes a spark from a ferro rod easily
Slick little flame extenders. They take a spark from a ferro rod well so long as you pull the fibers apart and make a little nest before attempting to light it. It's the sort of thing that could make the difference between having a fire and not when conditions are not ideal. I keep a few in my backpack and in my emergency 10-essentials dayhike kit.

Do exactly what they're supposed to
These do exactly what you would expect a little smaller than I was hoping for but otherwise they were fine

Great emergency tinder source
These work brilliantly as an emergency tinder source. Just fluff up one end and hit it with sparks from a ferro rod, or a quick touch of flame from a lighter, and the TenderQuik ignites and burns for a good long time (2 minutes or so). Much less messy and easier to store/carry than the old cotton ball with petroleum jelly trick, and works as well if not better. I put some into cut pieces of plastic straw which get the ends melted to seal, makes them easy to organize and carry in a kit (I did the same with the cotton balls but needed larger diameter straws).

A good general purpose tinder.
This tinder is my "go to" tinder. It is a small, waxed-cotton type that is dependable. This tinder lasts about 2 minutes, at most, once it is lit. While I use another, similar, longer-lasting, brand for extended outings this is my main pack-in tinder for bush craft and camping.

GOOD price for 50 tabs!! Recommended by Grey-bearded Green Beret - works with ferro rod or matches.
The Grey-bearded Green Beret is a bushcrafter on YouTube, and is very knowledgeable.Corporal Kelly (a Marine) is another very knowledgeable bushcrafter on YouTube. One of them (both?) suggested using only 1/3 of a tab at a time - burns about 2-3 minutes. If you have 3 kits/bags to supply, like I do (ALICE 782 - scouting/hiking rig, GO bag, & car kit - you can use small plastic zipper bags, and put 15/bag in each carry option, and 20/bag in your car kit.UPDATE: 50/bag (regular order) = $13.50 (right now) = 150 fire starts!25/bag fit perfectly (tight) in a 2" x 3" jewelry zipper bag.GREAT for windy/slightly damp fire starting!

Reliable and very space saving
Perfect for any camping or emergency kit, I haven’t experienced any duds yet. I keep them in a zip lock for extra moisture protection. They stay lit for about 5 minutes.I went through a pack in about a year, well worth the costs.
