Going strong since 2016
We purchased this on our return from Europe to power a Jura S9 Coffee Machine. It runs 24/7 (short break during a move) and has been working superbly. No noise. Steady power. We use the 220v side for the coffee machine and the 110v side for some Hue light strips. It sits tucked behind the Jura on the counter. A few things to note: It's pretty bulky. It's about 10" deep, 8" wide, 6"high and really heavy. There are different voltage plugs to connect to on the face so be aware of what you are plugging in. If you have a 110v item plugged into the 220v outlet, you'll have issues (like other reviews showed above). Using a smart plug may save you money in the long run as you can schedule it to turn on/off. I haven't done that because of the light strip but I haven't really seen an impact on our electricity bill. Overall a great, reliable (if used correctly) product that allowed us to keep our $2k+ Jura (did not pay close to that!) for a very fair price which made my German wife extremely happy in turn improving my quality of life.

Excellent converter โ works perfectly with our European coffee machine!
This converter has been a lifesaver for us. We brought our coffee machine from Europe to the U.S. a few years ago, and thanks to this transformer, weโve been able to use it every day without any issues. The quality has been great so far, and it hasnโt let us down at all. Weโre still enjoying our machine just like back home. Highly recommend!

So-So first impressions - Updated 1/27/2014.
It gets the job done. It is pretty bulky, but I expected that from a 3000w converter. I just started using it so my opinion might change over time. However, my first impressions are so-so. When plugging a 110v product in, specifically plugs with a polarity requirement, they don't fit in smooth. In fact, you almost feel like you are forcing it in incorrectly. So I researched the product and made sure i was doing it right and it works fine. Secondly, it doesn't have much of a humming sound most of the time EXCEPT, when running my 1500w coffee machine I'd say every 45-70 seconds it makes a very loud sound, almost like the sound it makes when you first turn it on -- but for 2-6 seconds long. Given that all the products I plan on using with this will only be running as needed, this won't be much of an issue. Other than that I'm generally happy. Without having any experience with other converters of this size I'd probably recommend to my friends to try a different brand to see if they have better luck. If money is an issue, I'd recommend this as it seems to be the cheapest 3000w converter I can find. Update: It still makes the sound I mentioned above. I increased the stars mainly because the merchant has excellent customer service. They offered a replacement or a refund. Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time to go through the replacment processes. I'm in Germany and have to do everyrhing through my APO. It would literally take weeks if not months to exchange. That said, the product works well enough that I wouldn't feel right asking for a refund. Still not 5 stars in that I'm in this situation to begin with.

Performs basic function, but poorly constructed
Arrived dented, although the box was in good condition. The 110-volt plug is of poor quality - no three prong plug fits in there well. It's really hard to push the plug in and I simply cannot get it in all the way (and I tried several). Also, as others have noted, there is a strong petroleum (gas/diesel) smell that hasn't faded in the several weeks I've been using it. I normally don't care about smells - I'm not particularly sensitive to odor and a lot of new products have some "manufacturing" smells leftover. However, this smell is so powerful, that it makes me nauseous after a while and I don't know why the smell isn't dissipating after having it in an open room for so long. It's hard to find good step-down transformers. All that I have purchased are varying degrees of low-quality. However, this is one of the worst. At least on my other ones, you can plug things in all the way. I don't get all the 4-5 star reviews for this. It does perform it's basic function (changing 220v to 110v), but I worry about the quality of the electrical components inside if things on the outside - like the plug - are so poor.

No disappointment
If you need to run a high power induction load this is your tool. On first test it ran a 3 phase induction motor for approx 2 hrs. Barely even warm enough to tell there was heat present. The transformer it replaced could only handle it 20 minutes before thermal shut down. This thing is a beast

This thing has withstood cold temps and warm temps at over 11,000 feet
This thing has withstood cold temps and warm temps at over 11,000 feet in the Colorado rockies. The building it is in has no A/C and no heat, just a fan system. It hasn't failed in about 2 years. It just keeps cranking no matter what the temp ends up being in the building. There is quite a bit of equipment in there giving off heat in the winter but the building is not insulated. I'm impressed with how it can handle the fluctuating temps it has to deal with.

Excellent product, good price
Excellent product for heavy duty or long duration needs for heavy load items such as vacuums, water kettles, etc. A must have. One thing I've noticed over time...the 110V output receptacle plug design seems to be a bit loose, causing some fluctuation to the device being used...makes the Keurig a bit finicky as it occasionally shuts off due to the slip of constant current due to the slight looseness. Putting a bit of pressure on the device plug and holding it steady to transformer solves this issue, but it would be better if the manufacturer designed a better 110V outlet plug for a more snug fit. Update...also got the 5000W model. This one is also excellent, especially as a safety net for the 2800W vacuum or similar devices, and the outlets have a snug fit. Extremely heavy duty, so you may need a little wheeled dolly for moving around :-) Re-Update: Be prepared that there are rare products such as the Cuisinenard "Keuring" type coffee maker that tend to have issues with going though converter, specifically causing some infrequent noisy vibrations. It's not an issue with the converter, but rather an issue with the actual device plugged in. In this case, the Cuisinard has issues where a comparable actual Keurig has no issues with going through a converter.

The Transformer had come in good condition. But the adapter had come damaged
The Transformer had come in good condition. But the adapter had come damaged. Had proper care been taken while packing, this could have been avoided.
