National Hardware N109-050 Gate Thumb Latch, Coated with WeatherGuard Protection, Black Plated Steel

This thing is great. Pretty easy to install. The biggest issue being that the latch doesn't STAY very well. A simple screw by the company would have fixed this. But I put my own in and never even noticed it.Other than that it was easy to install and easy to use. Been looking for something like this for a couple of years really.

Hesitant after reading critical reviews, but liked the minimalist design.Arrived very well packed, no issues.Pretty heavy and quality looking.Well painted in satin black.Installed in 1/2 hr. No problems.Lever is light and sometimes needs “help” to go down all the way, but not an issue for me.Just installed it, will watch for rust or other issues, but 5 stars for now for value and performance.

These are nice big gate handles that open/close easily and the rod in the rear of the door handle can be slid over to lock the gate.Some reviewers seem to have difficulty with installation. One of the issues may be the instructions direct you to drill two 1/2" holes next to each other, practically touching. if you've ever used a drill, you know that's almost impossible. i drilled the two holes as close as i could without them touching then used a reciprocating saw to join the two.There is one flaw that many reviewers mention and that's there is nothing but gravity keeping the thumb lever from falling forward and out of the hardware. I took the advice of other reviewers and used a large key ring to connect the rear of the thumb lever to the locking rod. If you look at the pics in the review section, you will see other reviewers showing this "fix".

The gate latch was easy to install. So much cheaper costs than the big box stores. We love it and would purchase again.

Mine was a bit banged up in shipping, with the coating chipped, so it might not last as long as it would otherwise.Installation is easy, BUT I didn't follow the order of the instructions.Determine the height you want the thumb latch... still your holes at that height... install the front plate and ensure the latch is fully inserted per the instructions (folks saying the thumb latch falls out did this part wrong)... install the piece on the back of the gate... then install the catch that goes on the post. Done.THE THUMB LATCH DOES NOT FALL OUT if you install it properly.I found I needed a drill bit extender to put the screws in... and that the screws were very soft and chewed up really easily.Minus one star for being damaged and minus one for the screws

Absolutely useless without the the thumb latch !!! So not fair to sell a gate latch without all its vital parts!!! Very upset

Just installed this on a newly built 36" pedestrian gate door and it worked perfectly. It's not initially apparent but yes you can use it for a pull to open gate door. I added a key ring w/ a small rope loop to the inside part of the thumb latch (there's a hole for that) to keep the latch from being easily pulled out.
